    “OBJECTion?!”: The Concept of Sociomateriality and its Consequences for museumised Objects

    In this essay, I will present the approach of sociomateriality introduced by Kalthoff et al.3 as an interwoven interplay of material things, human actions, and social orders. Sociomateriality is found within the context of new materialism, and favours a non-anthropocentric perspective of re-symmetrising ‘human – thing – action’. I would like to show that there are different forms of sociomateriality in the various spheres of reality (e.g. in day-to-day life, the field of religion, the museum)

    Closed-form analytic expressions for shadow estimation with brickwork circuits

    Properties of quantum systems can be estimated using classical shadows, which implement measurements based on random ensembles of unitaries. Originally derived for global Clifford unitaries and products of single-qubit Clifford gates, practical implementations are limited to the latter scheme for moderate numbers of qubits. Beyond local gates, the accurate implementation of very short random circuits with two-local gates is still experimentally feasible and, therefore, interesting for implementing measurements in near-term applications. In this work, we derive closed-form analytical expressions for shadow estimation using brickwork circuits with two layers of parallel two-local Haar-random (or Clifford) unitaries. Besides the construction of the classical shadow, our results give rise to sample-complexity guarantees for estimating Pauli observables. We then compare the performance of shadow estimation with brickwork circuits to the established approach using local Clifford unitaries and find improved sample complexity in the estimation of observables supported on sufficiently many qubits.Comment: 15+12 pages, several figures; v2: small improvements and new examples.     Invasive breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease which occurs with diff erent clinical presentations, pathohistological characteristics and clinical course. Most common types are invasive ductal carcinoma not otherwise specified (IDC-NOS, 70-80%) and invasive lobular carcinoma (5 – 15%). Systemic therapy of breast carcinomas is mostly determined by their molecular classification, which is based on genetic research of NOS ductal breast cancer, without the inclusion of rare histological types. Since some rare breast tumors have excellent prognosis despite unfavorable molecular characteristics, when deciding on the optimal treatment, both molecular and prognostic characteristics should be considered. Tumors of non-epithelial origin, such as sarcomas, lymphomas and phyllodes tumors also appear in breasts.Karcinom dojke je heterogena bolest s raznolikom kliničkom slikom, patohistološkim karakteristikama i kliničkim tijekom. Najčešći tipovi karcinoma dojke su invazivni duktalni karcinom (IDC-NOS, 70-80 %) i invazivni lobularni karcinom (5-15%). Sustavno liječenje karcinoma dojke temelji se na molekularnoj klasifikaciji, koja je osnovana na genetskim istraživanjima NOS karcinoma, bez uključivanja rijetkih karcinoma dojke. Kako su neki rijetki tumori unatoč nepovoljnim molekularnim karakteristikama vrlo dobre prognoze, pri odlučivanju o načinu liječenja rijetkih tumora dojki, osim molekularnih, potrebno je uzeti u obzir i prognostičke karakteristike tih tumora.     Der Eisenbahnbetrieb der Zukunft soll hochautomatisiert und digital sein, darin herrscht unter Betreibern und Fachleuten weitestgehend Einigkeit. Was diese Begrifflichkeiten in der Praxis tatsächlich implizieren, muss je nach Anwendungsfalls systematisch betrachtet werden. Am Beispiel einer Zugfahrt in einem Szenario ohne Lokomotivführer im Führerstand (Grade of Automation (GoA) 3–4 [1]) lassen sich eine Vielzahl an Fragestellungen identifizieren, die zu berücksichtigen sind, bevor diese Vorstellung im Regelbetrieb auch in nicht geschlossenen Bahnsystemen Realität werden kann. Im Folgenden werden relevante Handlungsfelder für Forschung und Praxis dargestellt. Operators and experts in the rail domain agree that the railway operations of the future should be highly automated and digitalised. What these terms actually imply in practice must be systematically considered depending on the application. Without doubt, a large number of issues need to be considered before this idea can become reality in regular operations in non-closed railway systems. Using the example of a train journey in a scenario without a train driver in the driver’s cab (Grade of Automation (GoA) 3–4 ), a closer analysis has identified the key factors which have to be regarded. Based on this analysis, relevant fields of action for research and practice have been identified and presented in this article

    Breast cancer is most common cancer in women in Croatia. It is a leading cause of death in women wirh malignant disease. Breast cancer treatment causes anxiety in women also because of the fear of losing one or both breasts. This disease has a psychological impact eff ect and increasing number of women decide to undergo reconstruction. There has been a substantial progress in reconstructive tehniques in last two decades. This article summarizes short history, development and today’s state of the art of reconstructive possibilities. As well as, advantages and disadvantages of reconstructive tehniques that help us choose the right timing and the right type of reconstruction. The final goal of breast reconstruction is oncological safety and women’s statisfaction with the outcome.Karcinom dojke je načešći maligni tumor kod žena u Hrvatskoj. On je i vodeći uzrok smrti kod žena oboljelih od malignih bolesti. Njegovo liječenje izaziva jedan od najvećih strahova kod žena a to je gubitak jedne ili obje dojke. Tako se radi pogubnog psihološkog učinka ove bolesti sve veći broj žena odlučuje za rekonstrukciju. Zadnjih dvadesetak godina pratimo izraziti napredak u rekonstrukcijskim tehnikama, bilo vlastitim tkivom bilo ugradbenim materijalima. Ovaj članak nam daje kratki povjesni razvoj i današnji pregled o mogućnostima rekonstrukcije. Također, pregled prednosti i nedostataka rekonstrukcijskih tehnika, koje nam mogu pomoći u izboru, vremena i načina rekonstrukcije.     RNA dimerization plays a role in ribosomal frameshifting of the SARS coronavirus

    Messenger RNA encoded signals that are involved in programmed -1 ribosomal frameshifting (-1 PRF) are typically two-stemmed hairpin (H)-type pseudoknots (pks). We previously described an unusual three-stemmed pseudoknot from the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus (CoV) that stimulated -1 PRF. The conserved existence of a third stem–loop suggested an important hitherto unknown function. Here we present new information describing structure and function of the third stem of the SARS pseudoknot. We uncovered RNA dimerization through a palindromic sequence embedded in the SARS-CoV Stem 3. Further in vitro analysis revealed that SARS-CoV RNA dimers assemble through ‘kissing’ loop–loop interactions. We also show that loop–loop kissing complex formation becomes more efficient at physiological temperature and in the presence of magnesium. When the palindromic sequence was mutated, in vitro RNA dimerization was abolished, and frameshifting was reduced from 15 to 5.7%. Furthermore, the inability to dimerize caused by the silent codon change in Stem 3 of SARS-CoV changed the viral growth kinetics and affected the levels of genomic and subgenomic RNA in infected cells. These results suggest that the homodimeric RNA complex formed by the SARS pseudoknot occurs in the cellular environment and that loop–loop kissing interactions involving Stem 3 modulate -1 PRF and play a role in subgenomic and full-length RNA synthesis
