The historical analysis of the ecological changes of habitats as an important source of knowledge in revitalization and sustainable development planning of post-industrial and urban areas
Prezentowana praca ma na celu ukazanie przekształceń środowiska przyrodniczego, na terenie dwóch dzielnic przemysłowych miast Górnego Śląska, zachodzących w okresie od XVIII wieku do przełomu XX i XXI wieku. Były to dzielnice: Wełnowiec-Józefowiec w Katowicach (związana z działalnością hutnictwa metali nieżelaznych) oraz dzielnica Wirek w Rudzie Śląskiej (związana głównie z rozwojem górnictwa węgla kamiennego). Analizom poddano przemiany biotopów miejskich, występujących dawniej i aktualnie, w celu właściwego wnioskowania m.in. o potencjalnych możliwościach obszarów w planowaniu ich optymalnej funkcji. Waloryzacja przyrodnicza, oparta m.in. o aktualny stan szaty roślinnej siedlisk, wykazała występowanie terenów o zróżnicowanej wartości przyrodniczej: od biotopów o najniższej wartości (np. tereny przemysłowe, tereny zurbanizowane), do biotopów o najwyższej wartości waloru (np. lasy, tereny rolne czy też trwale zazielenione nieużytki poprzemysłowe), mających duże znaczenie w planowaniu rewitalizacji i zrównoważonego rozwoju miast. The aim of the presented paper is to show ecological changes of the town-biotops in two industrial towns (Katowice - Wełnowiec and Ruda Śląska - Wirek) in Upper Silesian Industrial Region (Southern Poland). The results included historical analysis of this subject in the time period from XVIII to XXI century. Parallel the ecological value of mentioned town-biotops dependent on 10 ecological parameters in 4–step scale was performed. Those analyses are helpful in planning the sustainable development of those sites
Wzorce wysokodostępnej i odpornej na awarie architektury dla klastra serwerów middleware
The paper presents the result of an evaluation of the performance of different message broker
system configurations, which lead to the construction of the specific architecture guidelines for such systems.
The examples are provided for an exemplary middleware messaging server software - RabbitMQ, set in high
availability - enabling and redundant configurations. Rabbit MQ is a message queuing system realizing the
middleware for distributed systems that implements the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol. The scalability
and high availability design issues are discussed and the possible cluster topologies and their impact is
presented. Since HA and performance scalability requirements are in conflict, scenarios for using clustered
RabbitMQ nodes and mirrored queues are interesting and have to be considered with specific workloads and
requirements in mind. The results of performance measurements for some topologies are also reported in this
W artykule
Relative and non - relative databases performance with an Android platform application
This article gives an introduction to NoSQL movement and how it can help in creating modem application trends of Web 2.0 by its scalability and performance. To achieve the objectives of this work, three types of databases have been tested to see which of them will be the best to work with mobile devices working on Android system. All received results were presented and commented
Heavy metals in soil affect reproductive processes more than morphological characters in Viola tricolor
Viola tricolor (Violaceae), a species very differentiated morphologically and showing intra- and interpopulation
variability, occupies metalliferous (Zn, Pb, Cd, Cu) and nonmetalliferous sites through its geographic range. Here we analyzed morphological and anatomical features and also sexual reproduction in metallicolous and nonmetallicolous populations to determine whether and how they differ. Two-dimensional correspondence analysis based on selected morphological characters of vegetative and generative organs showed that plants from metalliferous soils did not form a compact group separated from those growing on nonmetalliferous soils. SEM of leaf and stipule anatomy showed differences in leaf hair ornamentation. There were significant differences in embryological processes in ovules and anthers: disturbed microsporogenesis (metallicolous 33% vs. nonmetallicolous 18%), lower pollen stainability (75% and 78% vs. 84% and 93%, depending on test), and higher frequency of degeneration in ovules (23% vs. 4%). These ultimately did not impede sexual reproduction of metallicolous populations but they do provide evidence that reproductive processes are sensitive to elevated heavy metals in soil and therefore can be viewed as a cost of metal tolerance

The present study aimed to investigate phylogeographical patterns present within A. halleri in Central Europe. 1,281 accessions sampled from 52 populations within the investigated area were used in the study of genetic variation based on chloroplast DNA. Over 500 high-quality species occurrence records were used in ecological niche modelling experiments. We evidenced the presence of a clear phylogeographic structure within A. halleri in Central Europe. Our results showed that two genetically different groups of populations are present in western and eastern part of the Carpathians. The hypothesis of the existence of a glacial refugium in the Western Carpathians adn the Bohemian Forest cannot be rejected from our data. It seems, however, that the evidence collected during the present study is not conclusive. The area of Sudetes was colonised after LGM probably by migrants from the Bohemian Forest
