Semileptonic π\pi and KK Decays and the Chiral Anomaly at One-loop

We calculate the O(p6)O(p^6) corrections to the anomalous form factors appearing in π+\pi^+, K+e+νγ, μ+νγK^+ \to e^+ \nu \gamma,\ \mu^+\nu\gamma and Kl4K_{l4} decays in Chiral Perturbation Theory. The relevant dimension 66 terms of the lagrangian are evaluated assuming their saturation by the vector meson contribution.Comment: 10 pages of LaTeX (+3 figures available on request

    On CP-Odd Effects in K_L \to 2\pi and K^{\pm} \to \pi^{\pm} \pi^{\pm} \pi^{\mp} Decays Generated by Direct CP Violation

The amplitudes of the K^{\pm} \to 3\pi and K \to 2\pi decays are expressed in terms of different combinations of one and the same set of CP-conserving and CP-odd parameters. Extracting the magnitudes of these parameters from the data on K \to 2\pi decays, we estimate an expected CP-odd difference between the values of the slope parameters g^+ and g^- of the energy distributions of "odd" pions in K^+ \to \pi^+\pi^+\pi^- and K^- \to \pi^-\pi^-\pi^+ decays.Comment: 12 pages, no figure

    Chiral Lagrangians

    Get PDF
An overview of the field of Chiral Lagrangians is given. This includes Chiral Perturbation Theory and resummations to extend it to higher energies, applications to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, ϵ/ϵ\epsilon^\prime/\epsilon and others.Comment: Invited talk at the XX International Symposium on Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies 23rd-28th July 2001, Rome Italy, 15 pages, uses ws-p10x7.cls Changes: 2 references added, numbers in g-2 hadronic changed slightl

Pion Interactions in Chiral Field Theories

    Get PDF
We study in various chiral models the pion charge radius, πe3\pi_{e3} form factor ratio, πγγ\pi^\circ \to \gamma \gamma amplitude, charge pion polarizabilities, γγππ\gamma\gamma \to \pi^\circ \pi^\circ amplitude at low energies and the ππ\pi\pi s-wave I = 0 scattering length. We find that a quark-level linear sigma-model approach (also being consistent with tree-level vector meson dominance) is quite compatible with all of the above data.Comment: 12 pages, 9 eps figure

Polypharmacy Among Home-Dwelling Older Adults: The Urgent Need for an Evidence-Based Medication Management Model.

    Get PDF
Ageing populations with multiple chronic conditions challenge low-, middle-, and high-income countries. Older adults frequently depend on complex medication regimens and polypharmacy, both of which can lead to potentially devastating and debilitating medication-related problems and to subsequent far-reaching public health, social, and economic effects. This perspectives article provides an overview of the current state of medication management, reflects on its relevance among polymedicated home-dwelling older adults living with multiple chronic conditions, and proposes patient-centered approaches for optimizing medication management and preventing medication-related problems

T-odd correlations in charged Kl4 decays

We analyse the sensitivity to physics beyond the SM of T-odd correlations in K4K_{\ell 4} decays, which do not involve the lepton polarization. We show that a combined analysis of Kμ4+K^+_{\mu 4} and Kμ4K^-_{\mu 4} decays can lead to new constraints about CP violation in ΔS=1\Delta S=1 charged-current interactions, complementary to those obtained from the transverse muon polarization in Kμ3K_{\mu 3} and of comparable accuracy.Comment: 6 pages (LaTeX

Heavy Ion Physics at the LHC with the ATLAS Detector

    Get PDF
The ATLAS detector at CERN will provide a high-resolution longitudinally-segmented calorimeter and precision tracking for the upcoming study of heavy ion collisions at the LHC (sqrt(s_NN)=5520 GeV). The calorimeter covers |eta|<5 with both electromagnetic and hadronic sections, while the inner detector spectrometer covers |eta|<2.5. ATLAS will study a full range of observables necessary to characterize the hot and dense matter formed at the LHC. Global measurements (particle multiplicities, collective flow) will provide access into its thermodynamic and hydrodynamic properties. Measuring complete jets out to 100's of GeV will allow detailed studies of energy loss and its effect on jets. Quarkonia will provide a handle on deconfinement mechanisms. ATLAS will also study the structure of the nucleon and nucleus using forward physics probes and ultraperipheral collisions, both enabled by segmented Zero Degree Calorimeters.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, submitted to the Proceedings of Quark Matter 2006, Shanghai, China, November 14-20, 200

Epidemiology of at-risk alcohol use and associated comorbidities of interest among community-dwelling older adults: a protocol for a systematic review.

    Get PDF
There is little epidemiological evidence and knowledge about at-risk alcohol use among community-dwelling older adults and their chronic and acute alcohol-related comorbidities of interest. This systematic review will summarise and examine relevant studies about the epidemiology of at-risk alcohol use and associated comorbidities of interest in this population. We will search the following databases, without language or date restrictions, from inception to 31 August 2019: Embase.com, Medline Ovid SP, Pubmed (NOT medline[sb]), CINAHL EBSCO, PsycINFO Ovid SP, Central-Cochrane Library Wiley and Web of Science (Core Collection). Search strategies will be developed in collaboration with a librarian. We will use predefined search terms for alcoholism, epidemiology, the elderly, living place and comorbidities of interest, as well as terms related to the identification of "measurements", "tools" or "instruments" for measuring harm from alcohol use. At-risk status will be determined by the amount of alcohol consumed and any comorbidities of interest associated with at-risk alcohol use, with the latter being documented separately or using an assessment tool for at-risk drinking. We will also examine the bibliographies of all the relevant articles found and search for unpublished studies. We will consider publications in all languages. No ethical approval is necessary. Results will be presented in national and international conferences on addiction and published in a peer-reviewed journal. CRD42018099965

Radiative corrections in K --> 3 pi decays

We investigate radiative corrections to K --> 3 pi decays. In particular, we extend the non-relativistic framework developed recently to include real and virtual photons and show that, in a well-defined power counting scheme, the results reproduce corrections obtained in the relativistic calculation. Real photons are included exactly, beyond the soft-photon approximation, and we compare the result with the latter. The singularities generated by pionium near threshold are investigated, and a region is identified where standard perturbation theory in the fine structure constant alpha may be applied. We expect that the formulae provided allow one to extract S-wave pi pi scattering lengths from the cusp effect in these decays with high precision.Comment: 57 pages, 17 figure
