European Money at Work: Contracting a European Identity?

Most literature on the interaction between European institutions and NGOs focuses on interest representation and lobbying. This article tackles a neglected aspect of this interaction: the effects of European funding opportunities on NGO's organizational structures and on their values and identity. EU influence on national political systems is usually analyzed as a process of Europeanization. Some analytical tools as the misfit model can indeed throw some light at the dynamics at work.European funds alter the redistribution of resources among national NGOs, enabling in some cases a dynamics of growth and altering NGOs national landscapes. Specific requirements to obtain European funds can also modify norms about what is to be considered as appropriate behaviour launching a process of socialization. Empirical evidence is drawn from Humanitarian NGOs, which are those receiving more amounts of money from the EU. In order to grasp Europe's differential impact in different national contexts, we have analyzed NGOs from the United Kingdom, France and Spain.lobbying; institutions; NGOs; France; Spain; U.K.

Dreamt Spaces

Beyond a mere interdisciplinary relationship, the symbiosis of cinema, body and architecture conveys an illusion: showing a dreamt architecture. The vision of architecture through a cinematographic filter facilitates infinite possibilities, from creating habitability conditions in impossible spaces to endowing architecture with unimaginable attributes. Aspects such as movement or dematerialization, in principle far from classic architectural values, have a familiar ring due to experiences gained in cinema. Likewise, in recent decades architecture has dared to carry out spatial experiments whose only objective is experimentation on the interrelation between body and space. Despite the importance of this question to the perception of certain architecture, during many years architects absented themselves from this field of experimentation. In the majority of the cases, as mere spectators, they limited themselves exclusively to observe the proposals of some artists and film-makers who transformed space just in another plastic material. Many of these proposals of "space alteration" were left in the dust, however, some of them established a basis for certain events to come which would change forever the traditional ways of understanding space. This new perception emerging from cinematic images poses new processes of connectivity between body and space, as we may observe in some of the works of the US Americans Diller & Scofidio, intimately related to new technologies. Others, like Philippe Rahm, focus on the fusion of biological and sensorial aspects of life forms in determinate spaces. Some like the Fabric team propose a deliberate alteration of perceiving the interior-exterior interaction of habitable spaces by means of addition and fusion. None of the above is science fiction, but we can elaborate a new architectural map with clear cinematographic references

EU funding has helped ensure underrepresented groups have a greater voice in EU decision-making

A number of civil society organisations (CSOs) have offices in Brussels aimed at influencing EU decision-making, however the fact that many of these organisations also receive EU funding has raised questions about their independence. Rosa Sanchez Salgado investigates the funding records of Brussels based CSOs, noting that although a majority receive EU funds, the largest proportion of funding is still derived from private contributions. She argues that EU funding for CSOs also plays a vital role in promoting underrepresented groups and that without it business interests and large organisations would have an even greater advantage in terms of their ability to put their views across to policymakers

En esta comunicación se detalla el desarrollo del Ciclo de Mejora aplicado a una unidad didáctica de la asignatura Dialectos Magrebíes (Nivel II) impartida en el Grado de Estudios Árabes e Islámicos. En este Ciclo se tienen en cuenta todas las variables que de manera coherente y simultánea han de reflejarse en los contenidos, en la metodología y en las actividades así como en la evaluación de una unidad didáctica, si bien, dichas variables se entienden dentro de los principios propuestos por el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCER). Análisis de trayectoria del capital intelectual en una universidad pública mexicana

Si bien el conocimiento contribuye a la creación del capital intelectual y existen estudios para medirlo en universidades europeas, es poco lo que al respecto se ha generado en México. El objetivo de este trabajo es proponer un modelo construido a partir de un análisis de trayectorias sobre el capital intelectual de una universidad pública mexicana, con la finalidad de demostrar que el elemento que más influye es el capital humano dedicado a la docencia. Descontextualización y un poco de humor en la arquitectura

Es curioso porque en un primer momento el tema de la descontextualización resulta muy atractivo, e incluso a todo el mundo se le ocurren cosas que se pueden hacer. Sin embargo, a medida que se profundiza y se empieza a trabajar con este factor, los resultados se alejan de lo imaginado al comienzo. Hay que decir que para los alumnos resulta un poco frustrante, ya que no aciertan a ver en qué han fallado cuando a priori sentían que tenían una buena idea entre manos. Con el tiempo me he dado cuenta de que muchos de estos trabajos fracasan por el humor, en concreto por su carencia de humor
