Cyclic cycle systems of the complete multipartite graph

In this paper, we study the existence problem for cyclic \ell-cycle decompositions of the graph Km[n]K_m[n], the complete multipartite graph with mm parts of size nn, and give necessary and sufficient conditions for their existence in the case that 2(m1)n2\ell \mid (m-1)n

A new and rare actinote hübner (Lepidoptera : Nymphalidae: Heliconiinae : Acraeini) from southeastern Brazil

The present paper describes a new species of Actinote (Nymphalidae, Heliconiinae, Acraeini), Actinote keithbrowni Freitas, Francini & Mielke sp. nov., from southeastern Brazil, based on morphological and molecular data. The new species is very similar in wing pattern to Actinote eberti, within what we term the “light-gray mimicry complex.” The host plants and immature stages of the new species are unknown. Actinote keithbrowni sp. nov. is one of the rarest species of Actinote from Brazil: in total, only eight individuals of this species are known from a narrow region of the Itatiaia massif despite years of collecting effort in that region since the 1940s495696703CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQCOORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIOR - CAPESFUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESP303834/2015-3; 304639/2014-20012011/50225-3; 2013/50297-0; 2015/24663-4AVLF acknowledges support from Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo – (FAPESP) (Biota-Fapesp grants 2011/50225-3, 2013/50297-0) and from the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) (303834/2015-3). West Nile virus infection in the golden hamster (Mesocricetus auratus): a model for West Nile encephalitis.

    Get PDF
This report describes a new hamster model for West Nile (WN) virus encephalitis. Following intraperitoneal inoculation of a New York isolate of WN virus, hamsters had moderate viremia of 5 to 6 days in duration, followed by the development of humoral antibodies. Encephalitic symptoms began 6 days after infection; about half the animals died between the seventh and 14th days. The appearance of viral antigen in the brain and neuronal degeneration also began on the sixth day. WN virus was cultured from the brains of convalescent hamsters up to 53 days after initial infection, suggesting that persistent virus infection occurs. Hamsters offer an inexpensive model for studying the pathogenesis and treatment of WN virus encephalitis

A Hubble View of Star Forming Regions in the Magellanic Clouds

The Magellanic Clouds (MCs) offer an outstanding variety of young stellar associations, in which large samples of low-mass stars (with masses less than 1 solar mass) currently in the act of formation can be resolved and explored sufficiently with the Hubble Space Telescope. These pre-main sequence (PMS) stars provide a unique snapshot of the star formation process, as it is being recorded for the last 20 Myr, and they give important information on the low-mass Initial Mass Function (IMF) of their host environments. We present the latest results from observations with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) of such star-forming regions in the MCs, and discuss the importance of Hubble}for a comprehensive collection of substantial information on the most recent low-mass star formation and the low-mass IMF in the MCs.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of the 41st ESLAB Symposium: The Impact of HST on European Astronomy, 4 pages, LaTeX ESA Publications style, 5 Figure

    Repulsive Casimir Force: Sufficient Conditions

In this paper the Casimir energy of two parallel plates made by materials of different penetration depth and no medium in between is derived. We study the Casimir force density and derive analytical constraints on the two penetration depths which are sufficient conditions to ensure repulsion. Compared to other methods our approach needs no specific model for dielectric or magnetic material properties and constitutes a complementary analysis.Comment: 11 pages. 3 figures.
