Understanding the relationship between the environment of the black hole and the radio jet: optical spectroscopy of compact AGN

We aim to investigate the relationship between radio jet activity on parsec-scales and the characteristics of both the bright active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their broad line regions (BLR). For this purpose, we combine 2cm Very Long Baseline Array observations of AGN with their optical spectral observations. This would enable us to investigate the optical spectra of a set of 172 relativistically beamed, flat-spectrum AGN with the nuclear disk oriented near to the plane of sky. Radio-optical scrutiny of the central engine in compact AGN

We combine Very-Long-Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) data for $\sim100$ active galactic nuclei (AGN) available from the Very Large Baseline Array (VLBA) 2 cm imaging survey and optical spectroscopy to investigate the relationships in the emission-line region--central engine--radio jet system. Here, we present the diversity of spectral types among the brightest AGN in our sample. Dynamics of a map with power-law tail

We analyze a one-dimensional piecewise continuous discrete model proposed originally in studies on population ecology. The map is composed of a linear part and a power-law decreasing piece, and has three parameters. The system presents both regular and chaotic behavior. We study numerically and, in part, analytically different bifurcation structures. Particularly interesting is the description of the abrupt transition order-to-chaos mediated by an attractor made of an infinite number of limit cycles with only a finite number of different periods. It is shown that the power-law piece in the map is at the origin of this type of bifurcation. The system exhibits interior crises and crisis-induced intermittency.Comment: 28 pages, 17 figure

Проведено розмежування таких правових категорій, як «закриття кримінального провадження» та «припинення кримінального переслідування».The essence and significance of terminating the criminal proceedings as a form of pre-trial investigation’s conclusion have been studied. Special attention is paid to the fact that the termination of criminal proceedings as a form of pre-trial investigation’s conclusion is a historically proven, theoretically and practically grounded procedural form of investigation’s termination. It is indicated that termination of criminal proceedings – is a multidimensional phenomenon and is considered in the theory of criminal procedure from different angles: as a procedural act (action); as a legal fact; as an independent legal institution; as a form of pre-trial investigation’s conclusion; as a procedural guarantee against the illegal criminal prosecution. Carrying out a retrospective analysis of the institution of termination of criminal proceedings (to determine its tendencies) allowed to conclude that this legal institution as the Ukrainian criminal judiciary in general, inherent development towards democratization, humanization, expand of competitive principles, and strengthening the protection of the rights and freedoms of individuals involved in the criminal proceedings. Separately, the notion of «criminal prosecution» has been analyzed; its content has been elucidated; the moment of starting criminal prosecution, and the subjects who perform it have been determined. The author has offered definition of criminal prosecution. A distinction of such legal categories as «termination of criminal proceedings» and «termination of criminal prosecution» has been carried out.Исследованы сущность и значение прекращения уголовного производства как формы окончания досудебного расследования. Отдельно проанализировано понятие «уголовное преследование», уяснено его содержание определены момент, с которого начинается уголовное преследование, и субъекты, которые его осуществляют. Canonical Melnikov theory for diffeomorphisms

We study perturbations of diffeomorphisms that have a saddle connection between a pair of normally hyperbolic invariant manifolds. We develop a first-order deformation calculus for invariant manifolds and show that a generalized Melnikov function or Melnikov displacement can be written in a canonical way. This function is defined to be a section of the normal bundle of the saddle connection. We show how our definition reproduces the classical methods of Poincar\'{e} and Melnikov and specializes to methods previously used for exact symplectic and volume-preserving maps. We use the method to detect the transverse intersection of stable and unstable manifolds and relate this intersection to the set of zeros of the Melnikov displacement.Comment: laTeX, 31 pages, 3 figure

The Twin-Jet of NGC1052 at Radio, Optical, and X-ray Frequencies

We present results from a combined radio, optical, and X-ray study of the jet-associated emission features in NGC1052. We analyse the radio-optical morphology and find a good positional correlation between the radio jet and the optical emission cone. Two optical emission knots are directly associated with radio counterparts exhibiting a radio to X-ray broadband spectrum not compatible with synchrotron emission. Rigidity of compact Riemannian spin Manifolds with Boundary

In this article, we prove new rigidity results for compact Riemannian spin manifolds with boundary whose scalar curvature is bounded from below by a non-positive constant.
