Experimental study of direct photon emission in K- --> pi- pi0 gamma decay using ISTRA+ detector
The branching ratio in the charged-pion kinetic energy region of 55 to 90 MeV
for the direct photon emission in the K- --> pi- pi0 gamma decay has been
measured using in-flight decays detected with the ISTRA+ setup operating in the
25 GeV/c negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. The value
Br(DE)=[0.37+-0.39(stat)+-0.10(syst)]*10^(-5) obtained from the analysis of 930
completely reconstructed events is consistent with the average value of two
stopped-kaon experiments, but it differs by 2.5 standard deviations from the
average value of three in-flight-kaon experiments. The result is also compared
with recent theoretical predictions.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure
Properties of Neutral Charmed Mesons in Proton--Nucleus Interactions at 70 GeV
The results of treatment of data obtained in the SERP-E-184experiment
"Investigation of mechanisms of the production of charmed particles in
proton-nucleus interactions at 70 GeV and their decays" by irradiating the
active target of the SVD-2 facility consisting of carbon, silicon, and lead
plates, are presented. After separating a signal from the two-particle decay of
neutral charmed mesons and estimating the cross section for charm production at
a threshold energy {\sigma}(c\v{c})=7.1 \pm 2.4(stat.) \pm 1.4(syst.)
\mub/nucleon, some properties of D mesons are investigated. These include the
dependence of the cross section on the target mass number (its A dependence);
the behavior of the differential cross sections d{\sigma}/dpt2 and
d{\sigma}/dxF; and the dependence of the parameter {\alpha} on the kinematical
variables xF, pt2, and plab. The experimental results in question are compared
with predictions obtained on the basis of the FRITIOF7.02 code.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures,3 table
Determination of scattering lengths from measurement of atom lifetime
The DIRAC experiment at CERN has achieved a sizeable production of
atoms and has significantly improved the precision on its lifetime
determination. From a sample of 21227 atomic pairs, a 4% measurement of the
S-wave scattering length difference
has been attained, providing an important test of Chiral Perturbation Theory.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure
Evidence for -atoms with DIRAC
We present evidence for the first observation of electromagnetically bound
-pairs (-atoms) with the DIRAC experiment at the CERN-PS.
The -atoms are produced by the 24 GeV/c proton beam in a thin Pt-target
and the and -mesons from the atom dissociation are analyzed in
a two-arm magnetic spectrometer. The observed enhancement at low relative
momentum corresponds to the production of 173 54 -atoms. The mean
life of -atoms is related to the s-wave -scattering lengths, the
measurement of which is the goal of the experiment. From these first data we
derive a lower limit for the mean life of 0.8 fs at 90% confidence level.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figure
