Length/Weight Relationships for some Species of Fish Encountered in the North West Atlantic (NAFO Regulatory Area: Divisions 3L, 3M and 3NO)
Sampling lenght and weight data collected during Flemish Cap surveys (1995 and 1996) and fishing activity monitoring (1993 and 1994) were used to produce relationships and lenght-weight plots for some commercial and non-commercial species encountered in the Northwest Atlantic. Twenty two species from Flemish Cap and six species for 3L, 3M and 3NO divisions were analyzed. The parameter values were obtained by division and, in some cases, by semester each year
Length/Weight relationships for Greenland halibut, Reinhardtius hippoglossoides, from Northwest Atlantic (NAFO Regulatory Area: Divisions 3L, 3M and 3NO)
Sampling length and weight data collected during Flemish Cap survey (1995 and 1996)
and fishing activity monitoring (1993 and 1994) were used to produce relationships and plots for
length-weight and gutted weight/total weight for Greenland halibut in the NAFO Regulatory Area
(Divisions 3L, 3M and 3N0). The parameter values were obtained by sex, division and by
semester
The Spanish Multi-species Deep-sea Fishery on Hatton Bank (North East Atlantic): 1996-2000
This document describes the Spanish deep-sea fishery performed in international waters on the Hatton Bank and
proximities (NE Atlantic) during the period 1996-2000. This is a multi-species fishery, carried out by stern bottom
trawlers, mainly between June and September, in depths mainly between 800 m to 1600 m. The importance of the
fishing activity in this area is increasing notably. This fishery has been monitored since the beginning in 1996, with
the collaboration of the fishing industry, by means of a scientific observer programme. The observers on board
provide data on catches, discards, location and depth, haul by haul. Length samples of the main species and
biological material are also collected. The species composition of the catches is presented. In terms of weight, the
roundnose grenadier (Coryphaenoides rupestris) and the bairdii smoothhead (Alepocephalus bairdii) are the most
important species in the catches. Other less important species are the Portuguese dogfish (Centroscymnus coelolepis)
and the blue ling (Molva dypterygia). In addition to the total catch, the composition of the retained catch and the
discard are studied. For the main retained species, the dressing types are described and the conversion coefficients
are presented. The length distribution of the catches and the discards, length-weight relationships and other
biological aspects of some of the main species are analysed
Results for the Atlantic cod, roughhead grenadier, redfish, thorny skate and black dogfish of the Spanish Survey in the NAFO Div. 3L for the period 2003-2019
Since 2003, a stratified random spring bottom trawl survey was conducted by Spain in Division 3L of NAFO
Regulatory Area (Flemish Pass). The surveys were carried out by the R/V “Vizconde de Eza” using bottom trawl net
type Campelen. Entire series of mean catches, biomass and length distribution for Atlantic cod, roughhead
grenadier, redfish, thorny skate and black dogfish are presented for the period 2003-2019

First record of Gonostoma elongatum Günther, 1878 (Osteichthyes: Gonostomatidae) in the North - Western Mediterranean
The first record of Gonostoma elongatum Günther, 1878 (Osteichthyies:
Gonostomatidae) in the North-Western Mediterranean (South West of
Majorca lsland) is reported. lt is a deep mesopelagic fish, with a
circumglobal distribution, tropical and subtropical. It occurs in the Atlantic,
Pacific and Indo-Pacific between 500 to 1200 m. Morphometric and meristic
characteristics are given.Hom dóna la primera cita de Gonostoma elongatum

Comparative Fishing Between the R/V Wilfred Templeman and the C/V Playa De Menduiña in the NAFO Divisions 3NO in May 2001
Following the recommendations of the 2000 Scientific Council Meeting, this year was conducted for second time a comparative fishing (Paz et al. 2000) between Canadian and Spanish Survey vessels in the Grand Bank (NAFO Div. 3NO) during 21 to 23 of May 2001. Although this year three ships were involved in the comparative experience, this paper presents only the results of the comparison between C/V Playa de Menduiña and R/V Wilfred Templeman. This paper presents the results of this 2001 comparative fishing from the Spanish vessel and the catches by set for the Canadian vessel. In addition, are presented the catches in weight and in number for the main species corresponding to both Spanish and Canadian vessels in the 2000-01 comparative fishing exercises
Results from the 2000 Spanish Bottom Trawl Survey in the NAFO Regulatory Area for Divisions 3NO
Since 1995 the spanish spring bottom trawl survey was conducted in NAFO Regulatory Area (Divisions 3NO) during May. The main propose of the surveys was obtain abundance and biomass indices for the commercial species: American plaice, Yellowtail flounder, Thorny skate, Greenland halibut, Cod and Wicht flounder. The stratified-random sampling metod of the set selection was used. The area covered was extended until 800 fathoms. A total of 137 successful fishing sets were completed includind 13 sets performed with the net Campelen also
New time series for Yellowtail flounder from the comparative experience between the C/V Playa de Menduíña and the R/V Vizconde de Eza in the NAFO Regulatory Area of Divisions 3NO, 1995-2003
Since 1995, a stratified random spring bottom trawl survey in the NAFO Regulatory Area of Div. 3NO was conducted by Spain. In 2001, the trawl vessel was replaced; so, the time series indices was transformed. The transformed entire series of mean catches, abundance, biomass and length distribution for Yellowtail flounder are presented for the period 1995-2000, and the no-transformed data for the years 2001-2003. The standard deviation is shown for abundance and biomass. The summed abundance and biomass based on conversion of the length frequencies are presented and compared to the estimates from the method used to convert the CPUE. The results are similar in both cases. The resource seems to be stable since 2000, although in 2001 there was a little increasing and this year there was a little decreasing
