q-Deformed Kink Solutions

The q-deformed kink of the $\lambda\phi^4-$model is obtained via the normalisable ground state eigenfunction of a fluctuation operator associated with the q-deformed hyperbolic functions. From such a bosonic zero-mode the q-deformed potential in 1+1 dimensions is found, and we show that the q-deformed kink solution is a kink displaced away from the origin.Comment: REvtex, 11 pages, 2 figures. In vitro evaluation of bovine lactoferrin potential as an anticancer agent

"Available online 2 September 2014"Bovine lactoferrin (bLF) was shown to efficiently inhibit the growth of MCF-7, T-47D, MDA-MB-231 and Hs578T breast cancer cells in a concentration-dependent manner. However, apoptosis was only induced in MCF-7 cells, which was associated with the mitochondria membrane depolarisation and a decrease of Bcl-2 levels. bLF led to the cycle arrest of MCF-7 cells at G1/G0 phase, as well as a significant decrease in the expression of CDC25c. The possibility that the observed anticancer effects could be due to the high exogenous bLF concentrations in the culture media was excluded. Moreover, bLF was shown to restrain the colony formation of MCF-7 cells, although it promoted cell migration. This later effect was unspecific and related to the presence of a high protein concentration in the culture or medium. On Matrix Superpotential and Three-Component Normal Modes

We consider the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) with three- component normal modes for the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) states. Atividade externa de manduri (Melipona asilvai) nos períodos seco e chuvoso na região de Petrolina (PE).

O conhecimento sobre a atividade externa das abelhas fornece informações úteis para a sua produção e uso em programas de polinização. Esse trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo registrar as atividades de voo da abelha sem ferrão manduri (Melipona asilvai) em Petrolina, PE. Foi utilizada uma colônia alojada no Laboratório de Abelhas, Embrapa Semiárido. As observações foram realizadas em intervalos de 10min a cada meia hora, de 5h00min às 18h10min, por cinco dias consecutivos, respectivamente no período seco (08-12 de agosto de 2011) e chuvoso (19-23 de março de 2012). Contabilizou-se o número de abelhas que entraram no ninho carregando pólen, barro, resina e sem carga aparente na corbícula (assumido como néctar) e o número de abelhas que saíram do ninho removendo lixo ou sem material. No período seco, as atividades foram iniciadas às 7h com temperatura de 20ºC e umidade relativa de 78%. No geral a maior intensidade de voo neste período foi registrada entre 10h30min e 12h00min, quando a temperatura estava entre 28-30ºC e umidade relativa de 35-45%. No período chuvoso as atividades foram iniciadas às5h32min, com temperatura de 21ºC e umidade relativa de 75%, e atingiram o pico com temperatura entre 32- 33ºC e umidade relativa entre 43-46%. Em ambos os períodos, a atividade de forrageamento foi mais intensa em horários mais quentes

Recursos florais coletados por Apis mellifera em girassol (Helianthus annuus) na região de Petrolina-PE.

O girassol (Helianthus annuus L.) é uma espécie de polinização cruzada, cujos principais polinizadores são as abelhas. Este trabalho teve por objetivo investigar o comportamento de pastejo das abelhas melíferas (Apis mellifera) em inflorescências de girassol, bem como o tipo de recurso coletado (néctar e/ou pólen) por elas. O trabalho foi realizado em junho de 2012, em cultivo de girassol localizado no Campo Experimental de Bebedouro, Embrapa Semiárido, em Petrolina (PE). Foram realizadas caminhadas nos canteiros, em cinco dias consecutivos, e foram anotados o número de visitantes e o recurso coletado, de 50 flores previamente marcadas. Um total de 3.968 abelhas foi contabilizado visitando as inflorescências. A coleta de néctar foi significativamente maior (77,46%) que a de pólen (22,53%), durante todo o período de observação
