The objective of this work was to evaluate sugarcane cultivation, in a harmonic analysis applied to a time series of Modis vegetation indices, with the representation of harmonic terms. Daily rainfall data were obtained from Agritempo for the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and accumulated for a period of 16 days of Modis compositions, from the 2004/2005 to 2011/2012 crop seasons. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) were used in time-series decomposed in harmonic terms by the harmonic analysis. In order to visualize the growing conditions of vegetation in agricultural areas, specially the phase information, the HLS transformation was applied to the harmonic terms obtained by the Hants algorithm, using Envi software. Sugarcane cultivation in the state of Sao Paulo shows spatial patterns that are coherent with the sugarcane development cycle and consistent with the variability of seasonal rainfall that directly affect the maximum period of vegetation indices. The peak growth stage of sugarcane occurs in years of normal rainfall; however, in years with below normal rainfall, sugarcane maturation phase is anticipated, and, in years with above normal rainfall, the growth phase is anticipated, which causes maturation delay.51111868187

Coffee rust can cause severe yield losses if control measures are not taken. Warning models are capable of generating useful information regarding to the application of fungicides, decreasing economic losses and environmental impacts. The aim of this study was to develop, compare and select warning models developed by data mining techniques in order to predict the coffee rust in years of high and low fruit load. For 13 years (1998-2011), data was collected from an automatic weather station. The independent variables were 23, obtained from the weather station, and the dependent variable was the monthly progress rate for the coffee rust, which was generated by the values of disease incidence. The most important features were refined by feature selection techniques, and the modeling was performed using four data mining techniques: support vector machines, artificial neural networks, decision trees and random forests. For high fruit load years the best accuracy was 85.3% and for low fruit load years it was 88.9%. Other performance measures like recall and specificity also had high and balanced values. The warning models developed on this study provide further information for monitoring the disease on high fruit load years than other models previously developed, and also provide a possibility for the monitoring on years of low fruit load.9340841

A Decision Support System For Recommending Land Use And Soil Management [sistema De Suporte à Decisão Para Recomendação De Uso E Manejo Da Terra]

The objective of this work was to develop a decision support system to recommend land use and practices for soil conservation and management, which integrates an Expert System, Geographic Information System (GIS), a database and an interface to monitor input and output data and the messages passed between the subsystems. Using soil and slope maps, the developed system determines land capability from information stored in the database and also supplied by SIG; it recommends adequate uses for land capability class as well as practices for soil con servation and management and identifies conflict areas comparing the maps of land use with the land capability. All results can be visualized by the user through windows of the program, recorded or printed in form of report. In order to test the system, the municipality of Santo Antônio do Jardim, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, was selected. The system is a powerful and efficient tool, permitting the evaluation of a region and thereby offering support for adequate decision making.104861866Bertolini, D.Lombardi Neto, F. Analysis Of Coffee Leaf Rust Epidemics With Decision Tree [análise Da Epidemia Da Ferrugem Do Cafeeiro Com árvore De Decisão]

A decision tree was developed to aid the understanding of coffee rust epidemics caused by Hemileia vastatrix. Infection rates calculated from monthly assessments of rust incidence were grouped into three classes: reduction or stagnation - TX1; moderate growth (up to 5pp) - TX2; and accelerated growth (above 5pp) - TX3. Meteorological data, expected yield and space between plants were used as explanatory variables for the infection rate classes. The decision tree was trained using 364 examples prepared from data collected in coffee-growing areas between October 1998 and October 2006. The model correctly classified 78% of the training data set and its accuracy was estimated at 73% for the classification of new examples. The success rates of the model were 88%, 57% and 79%, respectively, for the infection rate classes TX1, TX2 and TX3. The most important explanatory variables were mean temperature during leaf wetness periods, expected yield, mean of maximum temperatures during the incubation period and relative air humidity. The decision tree demonstrated its potential as a symbolic and interpretable model. Its model representation identified the existing decision boundaries in the data and the logic underlying them, helping to understand which variables, and interactions between these variables, led to coffee rust epidemics in the field. Thermal Comfort Fuzzy Index For Broiler Chickens [Índice Fuzzy De Conforto Térmico Para Frangos De Corte]

Estimating thermal comfort in modern poultry production is important that acclimatization systems can be triggered at appropriate time reducing losses and increasing yield. Although current literature presents some thermal comfort indexes which are applied for this estimation those are based just on ambient thermal conditions and do not consider important factors inherent to the animals such as genetics and capability of adaptation, generally providing an inadequate estimation of the birds' thermal comfort. This research developed the Fuzzy thermal comfort index (FTCI) aiming to estimate broilers' thermal comfort considering that the mechanism used by the birds for losing heat in environments outside the thermoneutral zone is the peripheral vasodilatation, which increases the surface temperature. Measurements of surface feathers and skin temperature of birds were used. The FTCI was developed using the data of two experiments which provided 108 distinct environmental scenarios. Infrared thermal images were used for registering surface temperature of feathers and skin, as well as the birds' feathering degree. For the same scenarios of thermal environment both FTCI and the temperature and humidity index (THI) were compared. Results validated the FTCI for estimating broilers' thermal comfort, being specific for the estimation of danger conditions usually found in housing in tropical climate countries. This characteristic is advantageous in models which estimate broiler thermal welfare, as occurrence classified as dangerous may lead to economical downward in avoiding productive losses.312219229Amendola, M., Castanho, M.J., Nääs, I.A., Souza, A.L., Análise matemática de condições de conforto térmico para avicultura usando a teoria dos conjuntos Fuzzy (2004) Biomatemática, 14, pp. 87-92. , CampinasAmendola, M., Souza, A., (2004) Manual do uso da teoria dos conjuntos Fuzzy no MATLAB 6. 5, p. 30. , Campinas: CPG/FEAGRI/UNICAMPBarros, L.C., Bassanezi, R.C., Tópicos de Lógica Fuzzy e Biomatemática (2006), p. 354. , Campinas: IMECC-UNICAMPBorges, S.A., Maiorka, A., Silva, A.V.F., Heat stress physiology and electrolytes for broilers (2003) Ciência Rural, Santa Maria, 33 (5), pp. 975-981Cahaner, A., Pinchasov, Y., Nir, I., Effect of dietary protein under high ambient temperature on body weight, breast meat yield and abdominal fat deposition, of broiler stock differing in growth rate and fatness (1995) Poultry Science, 74 (6), pp. 968-975. , ChampaignCangar, O., Aerts, J.M., Buyse, J., Berckmans, D., Quantification of the spatial distribution of surface temperatures of broilers (2008) Poultry Science, 87 (12), pp. 2.493-2.499. , ChampaignCarvalho, F., Júnior, T.Y., Ferreira, L., Damasceno, F.A., Silva, M.P., Mapping of potential use of evaporative cooling systems in Southeastern Brazil.
