The present research was conducted at Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz", Piracicaba, SP, in 1981, with the objective to study behaviour of the herbicides bentazon and paraquat applied separately or in mixtures in some bean cultivars and in some weeds. Two experiments were conducted in the field. The bean cultivars studied were Carioca and Moruna. The treatments carried on were: bentazon at 0,48 and 0,96 kg/ha; paraquat at 0,05 and 0,10 kg/ha and the tank mixtures with 0,48 + 0,05; 0,96 + 0,10; 0,48 + 0,10 and 0,96 + 0,05 kg/ /ha of bentazon + paraquat respectively. Visual evaluations were performed to quantify the percentage of injury on the bean cultivars, and on the weeds. Colby formula was utilized to evaluate the effects of the mixtures. The results showed that the mixtures induced evident antagonistic effects on the studied cultivars. The treatments carried in the field had no influence on the Carioca and Moruna cultivars yield. On sandy soil and with low precipitation, the synergism of the mixtures was evident on Sida glaziovii K. Sch. and Portulacca oleracea L. In clay soils with normal precipitations, the synergistics effects were evident on Brachiaria plantaginea (Link) Hitch., Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn., and Alternanthera ficoidea (L.) R. Br.A presente pesquisa foi conduzida na Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz", em Piracicaba, SP, no ano de 1981, com o objetivo de se estudar o comportamento dos herbicidas bentazon e paraquat, aplicados isoladamente ou em misturas, em alguns cultivares de feijão e algumas espécies de plantas daninhas. Hitch.), capim-pé-de-galinha (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn.) e no apaga-fogo (Alternanthera ficoidea (L.) R. Br.)

The uptake of micronutrients (B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn) by the variety IAC-25 in various phases of its development was studied, the plants being grown in nutrient solution, Main conclusions were the following: (a) only two variables, namely dry matter production an Fe accumulation, showed a tendency to level off as the plants complete their life cycle; (b) indication of internal redistribution was observed in the case of Fe and Mn; (c) maximum rate of uptake, was well as of dry matter production took place in the period which goes from tillering to grain filling.

SummaryObjectiveTo evaluate the impact of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) multidimensional infection control approach on central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) rates in eight cities of India.MethodsThis was a prospective, before-and-after cohort study of 35650 patients hospitalized in 16 adult intensive care units of 11 hospitals. During the baseline period, outcome surveillance of CLABSI was performed, applying the definitions of the CDC/NHSN (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Healthcare Safety Network). During the intervention, the INICC approach was implemented, which included a bundle of interventions, education, outcome surveillance, process surveillance, feedback on CLABSI rates and consequences, and performance feedback. Random effects Poisson regression was used for clustering of CLABSI rates across time periods.ResultsDuring the baseline period, 9472 central line (CL)-days and 61 CLABSIs were recorded; during the intervention period, 80898 CL-days and 404 CLABSIs were recorded. The baseline rate was 6.4 CLABSIs per 1000 CL-days, which was reduced to 3.9 CLABSIs per 1000 CL-days in the second year and maintained for 36 months of follow-up, accounting for a 53% CLABSI rate reduction (incidence rate ratio 0.47, 95% confidence interval 0.31–0.70; p=0.0001).ConclusionsImplementing the six components of the INICC approach simultaneously was associated with a significant reduction in the CLABSI rate in India, which remained stable during 36 months of follow-up
