Simplified sensor design for temperature-strain discrimination using Fiber Bragg Gratings embedded in laminated composites

Several easy-to-manufacture designs based on a pair of Fiber Bragg Gratings structure embedded in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) have been explored. These smart composites can be used for strain and temperature discrimination. A Finite Elements Analysis and Matlab software were used to study the mechanical responses and its optical behaviors. The results exhibited different sensitivity and using a matrix method it is possible to compensate the thermal drift in a real application keeping a simple manufacture process

Secondary Metabolites of Entomopathogens as Biotechnological Tools for the Biological Control of Agricultural Insect Pests

In recent years, the irrational application of chemical insecticides has caused the appearance of pest insect populations that are resistant to the active principles of commercial insecticides. In addition, these chemical compounds cause significant damage to the environment and to the people who apply them. The use of secondary metabolites produced by entomopathogenic microorganisms is a viable alternative that could mitigate the damage caused by chemical insecticides. Actually, the secondary metabolites of entomopathogens microorganisms have been studied; however, there are few reports on their massive production and their direct application as biological control agents. The aim of this book chapter is to describe, in a very general way, some of the secondary metabolites produced by entomopathogenic microorganisms, their potential application as bioinsecticides as well as their mass production

Ejercicios físico terapéuticos para la inclusión de estudiantes amputados a la clase de educación física

Students with amputated limbs face physical and emotional limitations to be adequately included in the physical education class, so this study proposed a physical-therapeutic exercise system adapted to integrate these students. A mixed methodological approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative elements, with a longitudinal cut, with a duration of six months, which included a preparation phase of the sessions, followed by their implementation and evaluation. Methods employed included literature review to inform system design, direct observation of exercise sessions, interviews with participants to obtain qualitative feedback, and physical measurements to assess students' physical progress. Validation was supported by feedback from participants and experts, confirming its effectiveness. Results showed significant improvements in student mobility, confidence and participation. This initiative highlights the need for inclusive systems in physical education, promoting the integration and well-being of amputee students, and underscores the importance of adapting the educational environment to ensure the full participation of all students.Los estudiantes con extremidades amputadas enfrentan limitaciones físicas y emocionales para incluirse adecuadamente en la clase de educación física, por lo que este estudio propuso un sistema de ejercicios físico-terapéuticos adaptados para integrar a estos estudiantes. Se empleó un enfoque metodológico mixto, combinando elementos cualitativos y cuantitativos, de corte longitudinal, con una duración de seis meses, que incluyó una fase de preparación de las sesiones, seguida de su implementación y evaluación. Los métodos empleados incluyeron la revisión de la literatura para fundamentar el diseño del sistema, la observación directa de las sesiones de ejercicios, entrevistas con los participantes para obtener retroalimentación cualitativa y mediciones físicas para evaluar el progreso físico de los estudiantes. La validación se respaldó en la retroalimentación de participantes y expertos, confirmando su efectividad. Los resultados mostraron mejoras significativas en la movilidad, confianza y participación de los estudiantes. Esta iniciativa destaca la necesidad de un sistema inclusivos en educación física, promoviendo la integración y el bienestar de estudiantes amputados, y subraya la importancia de adaptar el entorno educativo para garantizar la participación plena de todos los estudiantes

Estudio del comportamiento de las acciones técnico tácticas del equipo de Futsal de Granma primera categoría en el sistema de juego en rombo (Original)

This research responds to the technological demand of the training system for the high competition of futsal in Granma province, with this work we intend to contribute to the athletic development of athletes and coaches, establishing an observation protocol in fundamental technical and tactical aspects such as placement Positional and individual and collective actions in attack for the evaluation of the tactical system in diamond. The study was carried out with the provincial Futsal selection of the 1st category of Granma. Which is composed of 12 athletes with sports experience. We employ in the work empirical methods such as observation, measurement, experiment, and documentary review also theoretical methods such as the logical historical, inductive deductive, synthesis and systemic structural analysis, as well as the mathematical percentage calculation. The results obtained give us an accurate information of the deficiencies in the operation of the team, of the tactical training process of the players and their functioning in the game system in diamond, positive and negative aspects that are achieved in the sports preparation, the deficiencies methodologies in the development of operative tactical thinking for making correct decisions in the game actionsEsta investigación responde a la demanda tecnológica del sistema de entrenamiento para la alta competencia del futbol sala en la provincia Granma, con este trabajo pretendemos contribuir al desarrollo deportivo de atletas y entrenadores, estableciendo un protocolo de observación en aspectos técnicos y tácticos fundamentales como la colocación posicional y las acciones individuales y colectivas en ataque para la evaluación del sistema táctico en rombo. El estudio se realizó con la selección provincial de Futsal de 1ra categoría de Granma. La cual está integrada por 12 atletas con experiencia deportiva. Empleamos en el trabajo métodos empíricos como la observación, la medición, el experimento, y la revisión documental también métodos teóricos como el histórico lógico, inductivo deductivo, el análisis síntesis y sistémico estructural, así como el matemático cálculo porcentual. Los resultados obtenidos nos brindan una información acertada de las deficiencias en el funcionamiento del equipo, del proceso de entrenamiento táctico de los jugadores y su funcionamiento en el sistema de juego en rombo, aspectos positivos y negativos que se logran en la preparación deportiva, las deficiencias metodológicas en desarrollo del pensamiento táctico operativo para la toma de decisiones correctas en las acciones de jueg

Characterization of soils cultivated with rubber in the Colombian Bajo Cauca Antioqueño region

From a socioeconomic and environmental standpoint, rubber cultivation is potentially important for Colombia, because it not only constitutes an alternative to the traditional mining, agricultural, and livestock activities, but also a beneficial option in the substitution of illegal crops. Thus, there is need to determine the factors restricting the productivity of the species, particularly soil-related aspects. In this context, the current research undertook the description and identification of soil physical and chemical properties in three rubber plantations located in a region known as Bajo Cauca Antioqueño, at the lower course of the Cauca river. The results indicate that these soils are classified as Ultisols, they are deep, with acid reaction and low levels of soil organic matter. Essential elements also exhibited low levels, except Cu. Fe and Al are also present in very high concentrations, while the cation exchange capacity is limited.
