    TCMS operations and maintenance philosophy

    Get PDF
The purpose is to describe the basic philosophies of operating and maintaining the Test, Control, and Monitor System (TCMS) equipment. TCMS is a complex and sophisticated checkout system. Operations and maintenance processes developed to support it will be based upon current experience, but will be focused on the specific needs of TCMS in support of Space Station Freedom Program (SSFP) and related activities. An overview of the operations and maintenance goals and philosophies are presented. The assumptions, roles and responsibilities, concepts and interfaces for operation, on-line maintenance, off-line support, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) personnel training on all TCMS equipment located at KSC are described

REMOTE SENSING APPROACHES TO PREDICT FOREST CHARACTERISTICS IN NORTHWEST MONTANA

Remote sensing can be utilized by land management organizations to save money and time. Mapping vegetation using either aerial photographs or satellite imagery and the applications for forest management are of particular interest to the Montana Department of Natural Resources. In 2018, the organization began a pilot program to test the incorporation of raster analysis of remotely sensed data into their inventory program and had limited success. This analysis identified two areas of improvement: the selection method of inventory plots and the imagery used for classification and metrics. This study found that selecting inventory plots using a generalized random tessellation stratified (GRTS) sampling design in spectral space would likely improve the representation of the population as the sample distributions for mean and standard deviation in all spectral bands were more concentrated about the population means. Analysis using Sentinel-2 based predictors produced results that were comparable to predictions built using predictors derived from high resolution National Agricultural Inventory Program (NAIP) imagery. The increased spectral/radiometric/temporal resolution of Sentinel-2 imagery may have compensated for its lower spatial resolution

    DSP Guitar FX Pedal

    Get PDF
A guitar effects (FX) pedal, also referred to as a stomp box, manipulates the electric signal produced by guitars to produce a variety of different sounds for the application of music. Musicians use guitar effects to produce sonically different and interesting sounds for the sake of performance, creation, and art. Although the different types of effects are numerous, the basic effects fall into either distortion, modulation, or delay. The use of guitar pedals allows the musician to accurately perform desired pieces of music or compose new songs. The current guitar pedal market includes many effects by many manufacturers, however many of the pedals cost over $100 and include a minimal selection of effects. Although there are many ways to manipulate audio signals, Digital Signal Processing offers an inexpensive way to produce multiple effects using minimal amounts of hardware. An inexpensive, good sounding pedal that includes multiple effects would allow more musicians to use effects in their music

Diversity, Dilemmas and Transformation in Post-Compulsory Education: an Introduction to the Special Issue on Work Based Research

    Get PDF
As governments recognize the central place of post-compulsory education in regenerating and modernizing the economic and social fabric of society (BIS 2008), it is appropriate for us as educational researchers to question whether this recognition beckons a different role for research in post-compulsory education. Much of this research is work based, using a broad interpretation of this term, and the majority of articles received by this journal (though the proportion published is a lower one) reflect this balance. Work based research in education poses particular challenges for the researcher and the practitioner, whether the focus is practitioner research, in which case the dilemmas can centre on potential role conflict between practitioner and researcher roles, or whether the work based research is observational – analyzing others’ professional practice, in which case the dilemmas can centre on power relations between researcher and researched, the politics of research, and ethical questions around care for participants and the degree of their involvement or non-involvement in the total research enterprise. This article reviews the prospects for work based research in post-compulsory education and introduces the articles in this special issue
