Integração da pediatria médica e odontológica: uma visão ampliada de promoção de saúde.

Nowadays, early care in Pediatric Dentistry is a world tendency. In Brazil however, when we compare the patient access to Pediatric Dentists to the access to Pediatricians, an unbalanced situation is still found, both in public and private health systems. It is noticed that parents usually take their children to the pediatricians in their first year of life, what does not happen in relation to pediatric dentists. As a result, there are generally the occurrence of retarded treatments and delayed actions with curative procedures. The present study evaluates the integration between the pediatric dentists and the pediatricians in Salvador city, through semi-structured interview, whose results express that that relationship is not satisfactory. The integration between pediatric dentists and pediatricians may help to redefine the classic standards in children dentistry attendance, making it necessary to think of a health promotion conduct that, besides avoiding caries, involves the supervision and orientation of their growth and facial development, stimulating a balanced masticatory system from the morphologic, aesthetic and functional point of view.Atualmente, a atenção precoce em Odontopediatria é uma tendência mundial. No entanto, no Brasil, quando se compara o acesso ao odontopediatra com o acesso ao pediatra, constata-se um grande desequilíbrio, visto que, tanto na saúde pública como na particular, os pais costumam levar seus bebês ao pediatra ao longo do primeiro ano de vida como rotina, não acontecendo o mesmo em relação ao odontopediatra. Como resultado, tem-se, na maioria das vezes, atendimentos retardados e atuações postergadas com procedimentos curativos. O presente estudo avalia a integração de odontopediatras e pediatras da cidade do Salvador através de entrevista semi-estruturada, cujos resultados expressam que ela é insatisfatória. A integração entre a Pediatria e a Odontopediatria poderá ajudar a redefinir padrões clássicos de atendimento odontológico às crianças, fazendo-se necessária uma conduta promotora de saúde que, além da prevenção à carie dentária, envolva a supervisão e a orientação do crescimento e do desenvolvimento facial, estimulando um aparelho mastigatório equilibrado sob o ponto de vista morfológico, estético e funcional

Crianças com doença falciforme: proposta de protocolo para Odontopediatria

O presente estudo tem como objetivos: primeiro, rever a literatura sobre a Doença Falciforme com especial atenção à sua influência na saúde oral da criança, segundo, com base nessa revisão, propor um protocolo para Odontopediatria. O estudo utiliza a metodologia de revisão narrativa da literatura científica publicada entre 2010 e 2018. A doença falciforme engloba um grupo de patologias também denominadas hemoglobinopatias, de origem hereditária, autossómica recessiva, que apresenta expressões clínicas múltiplas e com graus de severidade e gravidade variáveis de individuo para indivíduo. Apesar do desenvolvimento de técnicas de prevenção e diagnóstico precoce da doença falciforme e de outros protocolos de tratamento, ainda se verifica a existência de um número reduzido de estudos focados na atuação em medicina dentária relativamente a essa patologia. Conclui-se que o desenvolvimento de um protocolo com base em evidencias científicas representa um passo fundamental para que o odontopediatra integre a equipa multidisciplinar que cuida da criança falcémica.This study has two objectives. First, to provide a review of the recent literature about the implications of sickle cell disease on children’s oral health. Second, and building on that review, to develop guidelines for pediatric dentistry. At the methodological level, this study uses a narrative review of the literature published between 2010 and 2018. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of disorders also termed hemoglobinopathies. These pathologies are hereditary, autosomal recessive, and can present multiple clinical expressions and different degrees of severity. Despite the growing development of techniques for early diagnosis and treatment protocols concerning SCD, there is still a limited number of studies focused on the relation between dental practice and this pathology. The study concludes that developing a comprehensive protocol based on scientific evidence is a crucial step to include the pediatric dentist within the multidisciplinary team caring for children living with sickle cell disease

Impacted permanent incisors associated with compound odontoma

Odontomas are the most common odontogenic tumours of the maxillary bones, characterised by a slow growth and benign behaviour. They are usually small, asymptomatic and diagnosed after routine radiographic examination. The aim of this study was to report a case of a compound odontoma in the anterior maxilla of a 7-year-old girl, which was causing the impaction of the maxillary right central and lateral incisors, as well as the prolonged retention of the corresponding primary teeth. We also aimed to review the literature about these tumours, since they are not part of the dentist's day-to-day clinical practice. The clinical and radiographic features, the diagnosis and treatment of the case were discussed in this work
