Eficacia de la colchicina en pacientes con COVID-19: una revisión narrativa

    Get PDF

COVID-19 has caused millions of deaths worldwide in just over a year. Although the mechanisms involved are not fully understood, several studies have reported a large inflammatory component, with subsequent uncontrolled release of cytokines (cytokine storm). The lack of specific proven therapies against this disease has led to the evaluation of the usefulness of safe and easily accessible drugs with an anti-inflammatory effect such as colchicine. We conducted a narrative review of the efficacy of colchicine on the main adverse clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19. We include 13 recently published studies in the main databases. We conclude that, in non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients, colchicine could reduce mortality, the risk of requiring hospitalization and mechanical ventilation. While, in hospitalized patients with COVID-19, colchicine is not associated with a reduction in mortality, the need for mechanical ventilation, or the length of hospital stay. Neither has colchicine been shown to have a “prophylactic” role.La COVID-19 ha causado millones de muertes en todo el mundo en poco más de un año. A hydrogen-based variable-gain controller for anaerobic digestion processes

Abstract An easy-to-implement controller based on gas phase measurements for anaerobic digestion processes was developed. The controller is based on the indirect control of COD in the effluent by means of controlling the hydrogen concentration in the biogas. The fast response of hydrogen under destabilizations, such as those caused by overloads, guarantees an early actuation on the system before it destabilizes. The controller is designed such that it brings the anaerobic digestion process to maximum capacity by pushing it to maximum methane production as long as hydrogen remains low. Experiments have been conducted to test the controller under organic over-and underload situations and promising performance was achieved. Further experiments must be carried out to validate the controller under a wider spectrum of situations to enable its robust industrial application

Impact of reducing sitting time in women with fibromyalgia and obesity: a randomized controlled trial

Background: Sitting time has negative effects on health, increasing the risk of obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes, and cancer. Thus, primary health care education interventions aimed to reduce sitting time and sedentary behavior could have beneficial effects on people’s health and wellbeing. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of an intervention based on reducing sitting time to decrease cardiometabolic risk on a sample of women diagnosed with fibromyalgia and moderate obesity. Methods: Randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention to decrease cardiometabolic risk in 84 participants. Sedentary behavior was monitored using an accelerometer before and at 3-month follow-up. Results: Compared with the control group, body mass index decreased, and the number of steps taken increased, in the intervention group 3 months after the intervention. No significant differences were found in the rest of the variables measured. Conclusion: The intervention group decreased sitting time after the intervention. Group activities and support from primary care may be useful to improve treatment adherence

First Report of an OXA-23 Carbapenemase-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii Clinical Isolate Related to Tn2006 in Spain

A carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolate belonging to European clone II and sequence type 2 was recov-ered from a patient in the Son Espases hospital in Mallorca, Spain. Genetic analysis showed the presence of the bla OXA-23 gene in association with the widely disseminated transposon Tn2006. This is the first reported identification of A. baumannii carrying bla OXA-23 in Spain

High-pressure x-ray diffraction and ab initio study of Ni2Mo3N, Pd2Mo3N, Pt2Mo3N, Co3Mo3N, and Fe3Mo3N: Two families of ultra-incompressible bimetallic interstitial nitrides

We have studied by means of high-pressure x-ray diffraction the structural stability of Ni2Mo3N, Co3Mo3N, and Fe3Mo3N. We also report ab initio computing modeling of the high-pressure properties of these compounds, Pd2Mo3N, and Pt2Mo3N. We have found that the nitrides remain stable in the ambient-pressure cubic structure at least up to 50 GPa and determined their equation of state. All of them have a bulk modulus larger than 300 GPa. Single-crystal elastic constants have been calculated in order to quantify the stiffness of the investigated nitrides. We found that they should have a Vickers hardness similar to that of cubic spinel nitrides like gamma-Si3N4Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures, 3 table
