Monitoring and evaluation of strategic change programme implementation—Lessons from a case analysis

This study considered the monitoring and evaluation of a large-scale and domestic and global strategic change programme implementation. It considers the necessary prerequisites to overcome challenges and barriers that prevent systematic and effective monitoring and evaluation to take place alongside its operationalisation. The work involves a case study based on a major industrial company from the energy sector. The change programme makes particular reference to changes in business models, business processes, organisation structures as well as Enterprise Resource Planning infrastructure. The case study focussed on the summative evaluation of the programme post-implementation. This assessment involved 25 semi-structured interviews with employees across a range of managerial strata capturing more than 65 roles within the change programme at both local and global levels. Data relating to their perception of evaluation effectiveness and shortcomings were analysed by means of template analysis. The study identifies responsibilities for executing an evaluation alongside various methods and tools that are appropriate, thereby focussing on the “Who” (roles, responsibility for particular activities) and “How” (methods and tools) rather than “What” to monitor and evaluate. The findings are presented generically so they offer new insights and transferability for practitioners involved in managing strategic change and its associated evaluation

Objective – The purpose of this study is to explore collection development, cataloguing, processing, and circulation practices for tabletop game collections in libraries. This study used the term “tabletop games” to refer to the array of game styles that are played in real-world, social settings, such as board games, dice and card games, collectible card games, and role-playing games. Evidence Based Library and Information Practice 2017, 12.1 3 Methods – An online survey regarding tabletop games in libraries was developed with input from academic, public, and school librarians. Participants were recruited utilizing a snowball sampling technique involving electronic outlets and discussion lists used by librarians in school, public, and academic libraries. Results – One hundred nineteen libraries answered the survey. The results show that tabletop games have a presence in libraries, but practices vary in regard to collection development, cataloguing, processing, and circulation. Conclusion – Results indicate that libraries are somewhat fragmented in their procedures for tabletop collections. Libraries can benefit from better understanding how others acquire, process, and use these collections. Although they are different to other library collections, tabletop games do not suffer from extensive loss and bibliographic records are becoming more available. Best practices and guidance are still needed to fully integrate games into libraries and to help librarians feel comfortable piloting their own tabletop collections

Can a business simulation game provide support and address learning and assessment criteria?

The paper addresses the debate surrounding the business simulation game (BSG) as an educational tool. Theoretical perspectives such as motivation (Aldrich, 2003), analytical skills (Chakravorty, 2005), decision making and adaptable learning (Aldrich, 2005) and behavioural (Sherpereel, 2005) are considered. Using a BGS as pedagogical learning aid presents challenges for both staff and students (Clarke, 2009) and this paper presents an overview of current research investigating the impact of the implementation of a BSG with both UK and overseas postgraduate students from a range of business and management disciplines in a post 1992 university. The paper will present: • how staff selected an appropriate BSG, • where it was used to obtain maximum impact whilst addressing programme learning objectives, • how effective the BSG was as an assessment tool, • an evaluation of its effectiveness as a pedagogical tool in an international context
