    How INSPIREd is NERC?

    Get PDF
The Natural Environment Research Council (www.nerc.ac.uk) is the UK's main agency for funding and managing research, training and knowledge exchange in the environmental sciences. In 2007 NERC commissioned a consultancy to prepare an INSPIRE baseline and Road Map to enable it to be compliant with the EU INSPIRE Directive well ahead of the deadlines listed in the Directive. This study provided: ā€¢ A baseline of INSPIRE readiness across NERC with respect to INSPIRE requirements for metadata, discovery, view and download services; ā€¢ A description of what NERC will need to provide to fully comply with the INSPIRE Directive; ā€¢ A description of the technology options that are currently envisaged to implement the INSPIRE Directive; ā€¢ A Road Map to show what NERC must do to meet the INSPIRE Directive; ā€¢ An estimate of resources required to implement the INSPIRE Directive. This paper outlines the findings of this study

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations Research and Technology Initiatives to Enhance Commercial Driver Training, Licensing and Performance Management

This paper discusses several of the numerous commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver training and safety performance enhancement initiatives being conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Office of Research & Technology (R&T). Programs discussed include the Truck Simulator Validation Study, the Pilot Test of Fatigue Management Technologies and the Intelligent Vehicle Initiative: Heavy Vehicle Platform ā€“ Generation Zero Operational Tests. The document will also serve to acquaint the reader with the mission of the FMCSA. Additionally, it provides an overview of the vast scope of research being conducted by the FMCSA R&T Office

Pengaruh Aplikasi Kencan Online Pada Masa Pandemi COVID-19

    Get PDF

An Economic Analysis of Texas Shrimp Season Closures

    Get PDF
Management of the Texas penaeid shrimp fishery is aimed at increasing revenue from brown shrimp, Penaeus aztecus, landings and decreasing the level of discards. Since 1960 Texas has closed its territorial sea for 45-60 days during peak migration of brown shrimp to the Gulf of Mexico. In 1981 the closure was extended to 200 miles to include the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone. Simulation modeling is used in this paper to estimate the changes in landings, revenue, costs, and economic rent attributable to the Texas closure. Four additional analyses were conducted to estimate the effects of closing the Gulf 1- to 4-fathom zone for 45 and 60 days, with and without effort redirected to inshore waters. Distributional impacts are analyzed in terms of costs, revenues, and rents, by vessel class, shrimp species, vessel owner, and crew

Task Organization and Time Management: Handling Email, Scheduling Time, and Prioritizing To-Do Lists

Faculty must juggle competing demands of scholarship, teaching, and service. Maintaining work-Āā€life balance requires effective use of limited time. A BGSU faculty learning community formed to identify and explore efficiency practices, while developing accountability for implementing them. During this interactive roundtable, we will share experiences and tips: batching email and removing notifications, developing hyper-Āā€ detailed calendars, protecting writing time, capturing ā€œuselessā€ downtime, assessing tasks based on importance and urgency, creating a social support system, and learning when and how to say no. An important lesson is that time management tools are not ā€œone-Āā€size-Āā€fits-Āā€all,ā€ and particular techniques resonate more with individual faculty

Interpreting forest biome productivity and cover utilizing nested scales of image resolution and biogeographical analysis

The objective was to relate spectral imagery of varying resolution with ground-based data on forest productivity and cover, and to create models to predict regional estimates of forest productivity and cover with a quantifiable degree of accuracy. A three stage approach was outlined. In the first stage, a model was developed relating forest cover or productivity to TM surface reflectance values (TM/FOREST models). The TM/FOREST models were more accurate when biogeographic information regarding the landscape was either used to stratigy the landscape into more homogeneous units or incorporated directly into the TM/FOREST model. In the second stage, AVHRR/FOREST models that predicted forest cover and productivity on the basis of AVHRR band values were developed. The AVHRR/FOREST models had statistical properties similar to or better than those of the TM/FOREST models. In the third stage, the regional predictions were compared with the independent U.S. Forest Service (USFS) data. To do this regional forest cover and forest productivity maps were created using AVHRR scenes and the AVHRR/FOREST models. From the maps the county values of forest productivity and cover were calculated. It is apparent that the landscape has a strong influence on the success of the approach. An approach of using nested scales of imagery in conjunction with ground-based data can be successful in generating regional estimates of variables that are functionally related to some variable a sensor can detect
