FAQchat as in Information Retrieval system
A chatbot is a conversational agent that interacts with users through natural languages. In this paper, we describe a new way to access information using a chatbot. The FAQ in the School of Computing at the University of Leeds has been used to retrain the ALICE chatbot system, producing FAQchat. The results returned from FAQchat are similar to ones generated by search engines such as Google. For evaluation, a comparison was made between FAQchat and Google. The main objective is to demonstrate that FAQchat is a viable alternative to Google and it can be used as a tool to access FAQ databases
Inspection of composites using a computer-based real-time radiographic facility
A radiographic inspection facility was developed at the NASA Lewis Research Center. The facility uses a digital computer to provide enhanced images in near real-time. Some capabilities of the facility are demonstrated in the inspection of a fan frame ring for an experimental aircraft gas turbine. The ring was fabricated from a carbon-fiber-reinforced epoxy composite material. Inspection procedures were evaluated, and comparisons were made with an ultrasonic C-scan and conventional film X-ray

Operational performance of the photovoltaic-powered grain mill and water pump at Tangaye, Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta)
A photovoltaic (PV) system powering a grain mill and water pump was installed in the remote African village of Tangaye, Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta) under the sponsorship of the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID) and by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Lewis Research Center (LeRC) in early 1979. The presence reports covers the second two years of operation from April 1981 through June 1983. During this time, the grain mill and water pump were operational 96 and 88 percent of the time respectively, and the PV system generated sufficient electricity to enable the grinding of about 111 metric tons of finely ground flow and the pumping of over 5000 cm sq of water from the 10 m deep well. The report includes a description of the current configuration of the system, a review of system performance, a discussion of the socioeconomic impact of the system on the villagers and a summary of results and conclusions covering the entire four-year period
Macroscale boundary conditions for a non-linear heat exchanger
Multiscale modelling methodologies build macroscale models of materials with
complicated fine microscale structure. We propose a methodology to derive
boundary conditions for the macroscale model of a prototypical non-linear heat
exchanger. The derived macroscale boundary conditions improve the accuracy of
macroscale model. We verify the new boundary conditions by numerical methods.
The techniques developed here can be adapted to a wide range of multiscale
reaction-diffusion-advection systems
