    Using multiple criteria decision analysis to aid the selection of enterprise resource planning software : a case study

    BHC Ltd is a family owned SME which specialises in steel fabrication for the construction industry. Due to rapid growth over the past decade the company’s current business software has evolved from a collection of semi-integrated individual packages and Excel spreadsheets. To help the company become more efficient during the current financial downturn and to ensure they are capable of future growth, BHC Ltd initiated a project with the University of Strathclyde to select and implement an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. This paper will provide a case study of BHC’s ERP selection process. In particular it will discuss how steel specific business requirements and organisational culture led us to use multiple criteria decision analysis (MCDA) when making a final software selection. The MCDA process that was followed is further discussed and includes the success that was achieved by using this approach

    Proceedings of a Workshop on Interactive Graphics for Transportation Planners

    The workshop attracted transportation planners from transit and regional planning agencies, consulting firms, and local governments. It explored the use of interactive graphics coupled with multi-modal transportation planning. Several key aspects of the use of interactive graphics were explored in panel discussions and demonstration workshop sessions. These aspects included the evolution of interactive graphics technology, the structured application of this technology in implementation, the operational environment, impacts on planning agencies and future applications of this technology. The demonstration of applications was made possible by use of Metro\u27s EMME/2 system. Metro is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Portland area. Metro is the first planning jurisdiction in the United States to use EMME/2, so Metro\u27s experience with the implementation of the system is particularly valuable. After acquiring the Urban Transportation Planning System (UTPS) in 1977, Metro began to look for new technology to better serve their regional transportation planning needs. In 1983, Metro acquired the EMME/2 system. Metro personnel who have used the system on a day-to-day basis have valuable insight into the functional aspects of this new technology

    Fully Complex Magnetoencephalography

    Complex numbers appear naturally in biology whenever a system can be analyzed in the frequency domain, such as physiological data from magnetoencephalography (MEG). For example, the MEG steady state response to a modulated auditory stimulus generates a complex magnetic field for each MEG channel, equal to the Fourier transform at the stimulus modulation frequency. The complex nature of these data sets, often not taken advantage of, is fully exploited here with new methods. Whole-head, complex magnetic data can be used to estimate complex neural current sources, and standard methods of source estimation naturally generalize for complex sources. We show that a general complex neural vector source is described by its location, magnitude, and direction, but also by a phase and by an additional perpendicular component. We give natural interpretations of all the parameters for the complex equivalent-current dipole by linking them to the underlying neurophysiology. We demonstrate complex magnetic fields, and their equivalent fully complex current sources, with both simulations and experimental data.Comment: 23 pages, 1 table, 5 figures; to appear in Journal of Neuroscience Method
