This study identifies factors that might be used by the state to better target foreign industries and countries that are more likely to be seeking investment opportunities in the U.S
International trade and economic development: Can foreign direct investment be predicted?
It would appear obvious that not all countries and industries are equally good business recruitment targets for the state’s economic development efforts. However, partly due to data limitations, little detailed research has been done to clarify how a state might direct its recruitment strategies to those industries and countries more likely to be seeking foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities within the United States. This paper is a move toward rectifying this deficiency.
Candidacy Rhetoric in the Rise of The Donald and its Relation to Populist and Fascist Ideology
This essay provides a comparison of Trump’s rhetoric to fascist and populist ideology through an analysis and politolinguistic framing of the usage of apophasis, mesarchia, and pathos in Trump content spanning the first six months of his candidacy for the 2016 U.S. presidency seat. This account finds that Trump is decidedly Ur-Fascist or populist, and cannot be neither of the two, is likely both Ur-Fascist and populist, and leans more in favor of populist ideology given the analyses undertaken. This account ultimately aims to have supported critical discourse analysis (CDA) and politiolinguistics in support of these approaches as rigorous political tools, and to have encouraged the pursuit of political and civil awareness
Magnetic Suspension and Balance Systems: A Comprehensive, Annotated Bibliography
This bibliography contains 301 entries. Results are reported of recent studies aimed at increasing the research capabilities of magnetic suspension and balance systems; e.g., increasing force and torque capability, increasing angle of attack capability, and increasing overall system reliability. The problem is addressed of scaling from the relatively small size of existing systems to much larger sizes. The purpose of the bibliography is to provide an up-to-date list of publications that might be helpful to persons interested in magnetic suspension and balance systems for use in wind tunnels. The arrangement is generally chronological by date of presentation. However, papers presented at conferences or meetings are placed under dates of presentation. The numbers assigned to many of the citations have been changed from those used in the previous bibliography. This has been done in order to allow outdated citations to be removed and some recently discovered older works to be included in their proper chronological order. Author, source, and subject indexes are included in order to increase the usefulness of this compilation
Effects of Microstructure Formation on the Stability of Vapor Deposited Glasses
Glasses formed by physical vapor deposition (PVD) are an interesting new
class of materials, exhibiting properties thought to be equivalent to those of
glasses aged for thousands of years. Exerting control over the structure and
properties of PVD glasses formed with different types of glass-forming
molecules is now an emerging challenge. In this work, we study coarse grained
models of organic glass formers containing fluorocarbon tails of increasing
length, corresponding to an increased tendency to form microstructures. We use
simulated PVD to examine how the presence of the microphase separated domains
in the supercooled liquid influences the ability to form stable glasses. This
model suggests that increasing molecule tail length results in decreased
thermodynamic and kinetic stability of the molecules in PVD films. The reduced
stability is further linked to the reduced ability of these molecules to
equilibrate at the free surface during PVD. We find that as the tail length is
increased, the relaxation time near the surface of the supercooled equilibrium
liquid films of these molecules are slowed and become essentially bulk-like,
due to the segregation of the fluorocarbon tails to the free surface. Surface
diffusion is also markedly reduced due to clustering of the molecules at the
surface. Based on these results, we propose a trapping mechanism where tails
are unable to move between local phase separated domains on the relevant
deposition time scales
