This research was aimed  to know the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of teaching material oriented to problem-based learning in improving students’ mathematical communication ability. The matery which did not relate the problem on real life context and lacked of students’ mathematical communication ability are the reasons why this reaserch was done. This is a development research.  This research used  4-D Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel development research by developing teaching materials oriented to problem-based learning approches. Teaching materials developed were teachers book and students’ book. The trial was done to 32 students on VII-4 and VII-5 classes in SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Susu. From First and second trial obtained: (1) According to experts, the teaching materials were valid, teaching materials’ practicality was practical in terms of: a) Validator said that teaching materials can be used with a little revission;  b) Observation result on teaching materials usage was also good, and teaching materials was also effective in terms of: a) students’ learning completeness classically; b) Students’ activeness on tolerance llimit decided; c) students’ response on teaching material components and positive learning activity. (2) Increasing students’ mathematical communication ability on the first trial post-test, from 64.84 became 75.50 on the second trial

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine whether problem-based learning-oriented teaching materials are valid and practical in improving mathematical communication skills. Materials that do not relate problems in real-world contexts and students' low mathematical communication skills are the reasons this research was conducted. This type of research is development (development research). This study uses a 4-D development model Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel by developing teaching materials oriented to problem-based learning approaches. The teaching materials developed are teacher books and student books. The trial was carried out on 32 students of class VII-4 and VII-5 at SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Susu. From the results of trial I and trial II it was obtained: The validity of teaching materials according to the expert team was valid, and practicality teaching materials have met the practical criteria in terms of: a) the validator states the teaching materials can be used with minor revisions; b) the results of observations of the implementation of teaching materials have been said to be good. Keywords: teaching materials, Problem Based Learnin

Mathematics Learning With Metacognitive Instructions In Malay Culture

The Purpose of conducting this research is to find out the relationship between mathematics learning and metacognition instruction based on Malay culture. In this study, using a descriptive research strategy, namely describing and explaining field variables based on existing literature (literature review). The results and discussion are that learning mathematics accompanied by metacognition instructions in Malay culture can be associated with reciprocating rhymes in Malay culture. This link is based on metacognition itself guiding in the right direction by asking questions that can lead, explore, and generalize. While reciprocating rhymes that provide a goal as a role model.  Based on metacognition that guides in directing questions from leading, exploring and generalizing combined with rhymes in order to get the desired learning objectives. So that learning mathematics accompanied by metacognition instructions can be associated with reciprocating rhymes in Malay culture

There were three objectives of this research, namely; (1) to describe the validity, praticallity and effectiveness of  metacognitive approach-based materials to improve students’ math reasoning skill and emotional intelligence, (2) to improve students’ math reasoning skill through developing materials, (3) to improve students’ emotional intelligence through developing materials. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, this developing research used the modification of 4-D development model. There were four stages perfomed, namely; define, design, develop, amd disseminate. The experiment was conducted in grade VIII-7 and VIII-8 containing 37 students of Private Junior High School SMP Sibilina Tembung. After experiment I and II, this research found that (1) the validity of material was valid based on the experts, the praticallity of materials met the standards in which the validator stated that the materials can be used by doing some revision, the result of the observation also showed that the material was high category level, the material had proper worksheet, and the effectiveness of materilas could be showed from three sides; the number of students’ completeness, the active participation of students, and the positive feedback of students, (2) there was the significant improvement of students’ math reasoning skill in which experiment II  with 73,03 was higher than experiment I with 69,03, and (3)  there was the significant improvement of students’ emotional intelligence in which experiment II with 2,89 was higher than experiment I with 2,82. Humans were not aware of various operations using basic mathematical concepts and ideas. For example, counting activities by referring to a number, weighing operations (duty, area, capacity and load), art, business activities (counting currencies, profit and loss, etc.) ) and building architecture (traditional housing). The aim of this study is to study and analyze the ethnographic findings from Maimun Palace, North Sumatra, to obtain background information on the development of ethnography for learning mathematics in the field of geometry. This type of research is exploratory research using an ethnographic approach. Based on the results of the research carried out, mathematical sections and blanks are used to carry out the manual operations of the Maimun Palace. No need to study theoretical math projects, they apply mathematical concepts in everyday life. There is evidence of ethnographic patterns expressed in various results of organized and advanced mathematical operations, including: 1) planning for the construction of Maimun Palace; and 2) the carving activity on the walls of Maimun Palace
