    Perceived Utility as a Motivational Factor in Affecting Users’ Decisions to Download and Install Potentially Spyware-Infected Software

    Spyware is acknowledged to be a growing problem in computing in the potential for privacy breaches, the theft of valuable data and facilitating the commission of other cybercrimes. This research paper is aimed at exploring perceived utility as a motivational factor in influencing user decisions to download and install free software containing spyware from the Internet. Data was collected through an online questionnaire sent to alumni of an Australian university, which was analyzed using quantitative methods. The findings revealed utility or immediate need is a strong and dominant motivating factor to download and install free software for most users even though it may be infected with spyware. The findings may have important implications for spyware proliferation and consumer protection, given the rapidly increasing uptake of online Internet activity by the general public supported by constantly improving technologies and online services

    Robotic Process Automation: a review of organizational grey literature

    Research on Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in the last decade has increased but lags behind developments in practice. This study explores the definition, evolution and categories of RPA, its benefits and challenges, identifies guidelines for implementation and provides a future outlook. Since there is an evident scarcity of comprehensive grey literature reviews in the area, this study presents an extensive narrative review of organizational grey literature on RPA by analyzing sixty-one organizational reports and white papers published between 2015 and 2020. This study provides a unified definition of RPA and groups the many categories of RPA into three types: basic automation, cognitive automation, and artificial intelligence. The study identifies the benefits of RPA and categorizes them into monetary; simplicity; efficiency and productivity; flexibility and scalability; reliability and consistency; compliance and governance; customer satisfaction; employee efficiency; and other long-term organizational benefits. The main challenges of RPA are awareness and perception of RPA; uncertainty about how to prepare for RPA; change management challenges while implementing RPA; and challenges associated with RPA vendors. Three main steps of RPA implementation are highlighted. This study provides practitioners and researchers with an extensive bird’s eye insight into RPA from an industry perspective

    ICT adoption to facilitate business processes is a growing trend in today’s global environment. As SMEs play an important role in a country’s economy, they cannot lag behind in ICT adoption. In order to join the e-business bandwagon, SMEs need to understand the barriers in the path and the benefits offered by e-business adoption. This paper has reviewed the extant literature of barriers, benefits of e-business adoption before proposing some key enablers that facilitate the adoption. Six existing e-readiness tools that are used globally to measure e-readiness are also reviewed. The review of different aspects of e-business readiness has motivated their unification and the definition of an holistic framework (Motivation Application Measurement Support e-readiness framework). The MAMS framework can be utilized as a reference to assess, design and implement a supplementary strategic approach for e-business readiness of SMEs

    Social media in project management: A systematic narrative literature review

    Despite the adoption of social media in many business operations, evidence suggests that the usage of social media for project management activities is scarce. Through this literature review, the paper seeks to clarify the scope of the available knowledge, highlight the significance of new research agendas and address the principal reason for the limited use of social media in project management. A literature review was conducted to analyze the benefits of using social media in project management along with the areas in which it is used, the threats, barriers and enablers of social media adoption. Key areas where social media is used in project management include requirements management, communication management, policymaking, knowledge management and collaboration. Social media usage has shown to improve information sharing, engagement and relationships. Threats include a negative impact on reputation, employee productivity and information privacy. The reviewed literature highlights that the lack of a social media adoption strategy is the principal reason for the limited use of social media in project management. This study contributes to both the project management practice and literature by introducing a model for social media adoption in project management

    With the advance of Business Information Systems (BIS), irrespective of the size, companies have adopted an approach to electronic data collection and management for two decades. The advancement in technology means they have in their possessions large volumes of historical data. Large organizations have cached on this and use a range of tools and techniques to leverage the usefulness of this information to make more informed business decisions. For most small and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs), however, such data typically sits in an archive without being utilized. While SMEs appreciate the need for utilizing historical data to make more informed business decisions, they often lack the technical knowhow and funding to embrace an effective BI solution. In this paper, drawing from our experience in implementing a BI solution for a UK SME we discuss some potential tools and strategies that could help SMEs overcome these challenges so as to reap the benefits of adopting an effective BI solution

    Analysis of project management in theory and real world : an information system case

    This paper sets out to compare the application of project management practices in the real world and in theory. An information systems project that focused on conversion from a manual system to a computerized system in a restaurant forms the backdrop of this comparison. This report draws attention to the relevant issues with respect to project management in the conversion from a manual system to a computerized system for a restaurant. The findings of the report reveal that the Information Systems department was instrumental in analyzing the needs of the restaurant and then designing, procuring, testing and implementing the new system. The paper also discusses and analyses the application of project management theory in comparison to project planning in the real world. It is evident from this paper that project management practices are necessary to survive in any project undertaken in today’s dynamic business environment. The paper concludes that there is a match between theory and practice in the project management field. The paper recommends that the factors of performance, time and cost be prioritized at the beginning of the project in order to avoid any unnecessary trade-offs. Also, teamwork is a vital ingredient in the conduct of projects and should be given due consideration by the project manager. Good project management ensures that there are standard processes in place to deal with all contingencies
