Effect of Tidal Cycling Rate on the Distribution and Abundance of Nitrogen-Oxidizing Bacteria in a Bench-Scale Fill-and-Drain Bioreactor

Most domestic wastewater can be effectively treated for secondary uses by engineered biological systems. These systems rely on microbial activity to reduce nitrogen (N) content of the reclaimed water. Such systems often employ a tidal-flow process to minimize space requirements for the coupling of aerobic and anaerobic metabolic processes. In this study, laboratory-scale tidal-flow treatment systems were studied to determine how the frequency and duration of tidal cycling may impact reactor performance. Fluorescent in situ hybridization and epifluorescence microscopy were used to enumerate the key functional groups of bacteria responsible for nitrification and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox), and N-removal efficiency was calculated via a mass-balance approach. When water was cycled (i.e., reactors were filled and drained) at high frequencies (16–24 cycles day−1), nitrate accumulated in the columns—presumably due to inadequate periods of anoxia that limited denitrification. At lower frequencies, such as 4 cycles day−1, nearly complete N removal was achieved (80–90%). These fill-and-drain systems enriched heavily for nitrifiers, with relatively few anammox-capable organisms. The microbial community produced was robust, surviving well through short (up to 3 h) anaerobic periods and frequent system-wide perturbation

The problem on this research was that the low score of students' learning on social science study. There werestill a lot of students that did not understand basic concepts and tended to memorize examples. It was showed by58,07% from 31 students achieving minimum criteria completeness (KKM) from students' test score in IVCclass of SDN 108 Pekanbaru for Koperasi subject. The students' average score was 62,4, and the KKM stated byschool was 68. Based on this problem it was needed to do an action research using cooperative learning modelsTeams Games Tournaments (TGT) type. This research aims to know whether the implementation of cooperativelearning models Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type can improve students' social science learningoutcomes at IVC class of SDN 108 Pekanbaru in 2013/2014 with 31students. This research was done in twocycles. First cycle consists of three meetings with one daily test and first tournament, and cycle II consists ofthree meetings with one daily test and second tournament. Instruments to collect data in this research areteacher's observation sheets, students' observation sheet, and tests. By implementing using cooperative learningmodels Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes.Percentage of completeness in basic score was 54,8% (62,40 in average), and it changed into 77,4% (75,6 inaverage) in cycle I and 87,1% (81,1 in average) in cycle II. Percentage of teacher' activity in cycle I was 81,9%and 92,3% in cycle II. Then percentage of students' activity in cycle I was 75,4% and 92,2% in cycle II. Fromthose data it proves that the implementation of cooperative learning models Teams Games Tournaments (TGT)type can improve students' learning outcomes at IVC class of SDN 108 Pekanbaru

Contribution to the Metropolitan Study: 18 -- The project "Nested Dynamics of Metropolitan Processes and Policies" started as a collaborative study in 1983. The Series of contributions is a means of conveying information between the collaborators in the network of the project. This report gives an overview of the structure of a dynamic model built for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region. The study concentrates on problems of analyzing and predicting the developments in the housing market to which demographic changes are explicitly related in a suggested model

Emergency Room is one of public organization oriented to service that aims toserve and provide satisfaction to the people, especially on the health aspects. To givesatisfaction to the patient the nurse must provide nursing care in accordance with theexpected expertise and skills possessed by nurse, especially nurse on duty in the ER.Emergency Room care is a service for people who need fast and professionalhandling. Improved service must be made priority Hospitals, especially in theemergency room of the installation in order to create expectations and patientssatisfaction. The are some barriers or obstacles in providing health care to patientsEmergency Room, among others, the low Human Resources owned by the EmergecyRoom in providing health services, lack of health care facilities supporting works, and hospitality workers and the lack labor discipline medical residing in theEmergency Room Bangkinang hospitals in providing health services. In order toovercome barriers or obstacles in providing health care in the Emergency Room then, required quality of health services, which on one hand can satisfy the users of theservices, and on the other hand its implementation procedures in accordance with thecode of ethics and standards that have been set.The concept of the theory is a theory that researchers use health servicesconsisting of available, sustainable, Acceptable and reasonable, easy to archieve, easyto reach and grade. This study used qualitative research methods to the assessment ofdescriptive data. In collecting the data, the researchers used interview thecniques, observation and study literature. By using key informant and the informant as asupplementary source of information. The results of this study indicate that, Customer Satisfaction Analysis OnPublic Service. ( Study case in Bangkinang Hospital Emergency Room ) assessed tobe less, due to the lack of human resources and facilities owned by the HospitalEmergency Room Bangkinang and there are many grievances felt by the customersHospital for the lack of service provided by the Emergency Room. Keywords : Satisfaction, Service, Installation Emergenc

Label-free segmentation from cardiac ultrasound using self-supervised learning

Segmentation and measurement of cardiac chambers is critical in cardiac ultrasound but is laborious and poorly reproducible. Neural networks can assist, but supervised approaches require the same laborious manual annotations. We built a pipeline for self-supervised (no manual labels) segmentation combining computer vision, clinical domain knowledge, and deep learning. We trained on 450 echocardiograms (93,000 images) and tested on 8,393 echocardiograms (4,476,266 images; mean 61 years, 51% female), using the resulting segmentations to calculate biometrics. We also tested against external images from an additional 10,030 patients with available manual tracings of the left ventricle. r2 between clinically measured and pipeline-predicted measurements were similar to reported inter-clinician variation and comparable to supervised learning across several different measurements (r2 0.56-0.84). Average accuracy for detecting abnormal chamber size and function was 0.85 (range 0.71-0.97) compared to clinical measurements. A subset of test echocardiograms (n=553) had corresponding cardiac MRIs, where MRI is the gold standard. Correlation between pipeline and MRI measurements was similar to that between clinical echocardiogram and MRI. Finally, the pipeline accurately segments the left ventricle with an average Dice score of 0.89 (95% CI [0.89]) in the external, manually labeled dataset. Our results demonstrate a manual-label free, clinically valid, and highly scalable method for segmentation from ultrasound, a noisy but globally important imaging modality.Comment: 37 pages, 3 Tables, 7 Figure
