    Low loss 1x2 optical coupler based on cosine s-bend with segmented waveguides

    This paper presents an optimization of 1x2 polymer Y-junction optical coupler. The optimized optical coupler comprises straight polymer waveguide as the input waveguide, tapered waveguide, modified cosine S-bend and linear waveguide. At the branching point, N short waveguides with small width are introduced to reduce evanescent field. At operating wavelength of 1550 nm the excess loss of the coupler is ~0.18 dB. In term of polarization dependence loss (PDL), the proposed coupler also shows a good performance with PDL value of less than 0.015 dB for wavelength range of 1470 nm-1550 nm. The proposed coupler could reduce excess loss more than 25% compared to conventional Y junction optical coupler

    Sensitivity improvement of a fibre bragg grating ph sensor with elastomeric coating

    A new optical pH sensor based on fibre Bragg grating (FBG) is demonstrated. The sensor consists of a FBG coated with pH sensitive hydrogel. The sensing was performed through the detection of wavelength shifts resulting from the induced strain on the FBG due to mechanical expansion of the hydrogel. An elastomeric coating was applied before the hydrogel coating to improve the sensitivity. The sensor performance was investigated by simulating the hydrogel swelling and the strain induced on the FBG. The swelling of hydrogel due to pH change was modelled using a free-energy function and was solved using the finite element method. With silicone rubber as the elastomer material, the results show that the sensitivity was improved by up to 66% compared to that of the FBG pH sensor without elastomeric coating

    Finite element stress analysis of optical fiber due to mechanical expansion of hydrogel coating

    This paper presents the stress analysis in optical fiber due to swelling of hydrogel material coated on it. The silica optical fiber was assumed to be coated by hydrogel that consists of hydroxyethyl methacrylate, acrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker. The hydrogel swelling was modeled using free energy function. The conditional equilibrium of hydrogel was solved using finite element method and the stress induced in optical fiber was simulated simultaneously. The simulations were done for two hydrogel coating thickness values, 30 µm and 40 µm. Etched optical fiber coated by 40 µm hydrogel was also simulated. The results show that maximum stress in optical fiber is higher for thicker hydrogel thickness and is higher for etched optical fiber. Maximum stress magnitudes at all pH values are below tensile strength of optical fiber

    Latar belakang: Pembedahan atau operasi merupakan cara yang dilakukan dengan membuat sayatan pada bagian tubuh manusia, Tindakan pembedahan ini dilakukan bila ada bagian tubuh manusia mengalami gangguan pada bagian dalam tubuh, secara umum anestesi terbagi menjadi dua jenis yaitu general anestesi dan regional anestesi. Seseorang yang akan dilakukan tindakan pembedahan sering kali merasakan kecemasan, Distraksi merupakan metode menghilangkan kecemasan dengan mengalihkan perhatian pada hal lain sehingga pasien dapat melupakan kekhawatiran yang dialaminya, salah satu faktor untuk menurunkan kecemasan adalah dengan bermain game. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh game terhadap tingkat kecemasan remaja sebelum operasi. Metode penelitian: Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimental menggunakan desain penelitian pre test and post test one group design, dengan mengukur satu kelompok yaitu kelompok eksperimen, dimana kelompok eksperimen diberikan perlakukan bermain game. Tehknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling yang berjumlah 26 responden dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Analisa data di lakukan menggunakan uji paired sampel t-test. Hasil penelitian: dari 26 responden yang diperoleh, berdasarkan Jenis Kelamin, Laki-laki memilliki jumlah lebih dominan yaitu sebanyak 15 responden (57,7%). Karakteristik responden berdasarkan usia, sebagian besar responden termasuk dalam usia 21tahun sebanyak 6 responden (23,1%). Berdasarkan jenis operasi, general anestesi lebih dominan sebanyak 15 responden (57,7%). berdasarkan kecemasan pre test, sebagian besar responden dalam kategori kecemasan sedang sebanyak 16 responden (61,5%). Berdasarkan kecemasan post test, sebagian besar responden dalam kategori kecemasan ringan sebanyak 19 responden (73,1%). Hasil uji korelasi paired t test untuk mengetahui adanya pengaruh game terhadap tingkat kecemasan remaja sebelum operasi pada kelompok eksperiment didapatkan hasil 0,000 (p< 0,05), maka artinya terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan (berarti) antara variabel independen dan variabel dependen. Simpulan: ada pengaruh yang signifikan antara bermain game terhadap tingkat kecemasan remaja sebelum operasi
