Exploring the Significance of Greenway Concept, to Assist Landscape Planning and Design: Contributions to Theory from African, Asian and European Case Studies
The need for a reliable theoretical framework has been identified as unavoidable means to validate strategies and problem solve solutions in landscape architecture. The identification of the international greenway movement as well as its significance in promoting better planning and design (Fabos, 2010; Fabos and Ryan, 2006) enriched significantly the theory to support greenway planning and design. However, the magnitude achieved by the greenway movement across the world at different scales and contexts, deserves a deeper research on the topic. To illustrate this, it is worth mentioning the increasing popularity of green-infrastructures in European Union both in the academic and professional fields (EC, 2010; MagalhĂŁes, 2012), or the fact that 55 Km of greenways have been announced to be built in the city of Shenzhen, China in 2012 (Shenzhen Daily, 2012)

Landscape Constrains: Opportunities for Creative and Sustainable Landscape Design
This paper aims to demonstrate the potential of âlandscape constrainsâ as significant assets in landscape planning and design. Constrains underlie, among other factors, landscape character, therefore being crucial to its assessment and for creative and sustainable design. Identifying constrains enables to understand land degradation and, therefore, searching strategies for land improvement starting from the components that actually exist, instead of trying to induce new features considered to be more sustainable. Involving thoroughly âconstrainsâ into design can contribute and strengthen landscape resilience since it accepts that negative assets can evolve towards good landscape, therefore contribute to better design. This is to be explained through the analysis of the landscape design approach and the identification of the results of three different case studies in Portugal within a much diversified landscape contexts

Hypothyroidism represents a thyroid hypofunction, mainly caused by autoimmune diseases of the gland, characterized by a local thyroid immune response that reduces the production of thyroid hormones. Celiac disease (CD), on the other hand, is a permanent autoimmune enteropathy triggered by gluten, causing the production of several autoantibodies. A significant percentage of individuals with hypothyroidism requires higher doses of T4 to achieve optimal TSH levels, among which are celiac patients. Also, considering different causes that diversify the clinical presentation of CD, one of the most common is hypothyroidism. Thus, focusing on establishing associations between both diseases, a review based on MEDLINE and SciELOâs was developed. Results show that autoimmune diseases are commonly associated and represent risk factors for each other. However, the indiscriminate screening of these diseases is still impracticable and has little benefit. Therefore, knowing when to suspect clinically and how to investigate hypothyroidism and/or CD is extremely important.O hipotireoidismo Ă© definido como uma hipofunção da tireoide, tendo como principal causa, atualmente, as doenças autoimunes da glĂąndula, caracterizadas por uma resposta imune local e redução da produção dos hormĂŽnios tireoidianos.
