In this article we discuss the school contributions to identity constitution of deaf people, based on a dialogue between dialectical and historical materialism and the winnicottian psychoanalysis. Bibliographic analysis relating to this matter indicated a lack of productions that consider the relation between school and deaf people subjectivity process. In order to comprehend discussions on this field, we propose some reflections on contemporary school phenomena by using a Psychology which seeks a Formative Education - and not a degenerate one - to All individuals. With regard to deaf people, although there is not an agreement over schooling effects into inclusive or special institutions, we conclude that school professionals must have liberty to create/recreate learning places and strategies. This will help to provide to students and teachers the experience of a horizontal relations with the Other, in spite of his or her different linguistic background, age group, cognitive or ethnic condition.

In this work, we applied the free open source SCILAB software for the numerical integration of differential rate law equations to obtain the concentration profiles of chemical species involved in the kinetics of some complex reactions. An automated method was applied to construct the system of ordinary differential equations (ODE) from the postulated chemical models. The solutions of the ODEs were obtained numerically by standard SCILAB functions. We successfully simulated even complex chemical systems such as pH oscillators. This communication opens up the possibility of using SCILAB in simulations and modeling by our chemistry undergraduate students

Origins of Less Noble Behavior by Au during CO Adsorption

The behavior of the CO interaction with gold in an electrochemical environment is presented in this work by means of the SERS technique. The results show spectroscopic evidence that the adsorbed CO promotes the formation of oxidic species even at potentials where it is not thermodynamically favorable (lower than 0.6 V vs RHE), explaining the low-overpotential CO electrooxidation reaction onset (@ ca. 0.2 V). At high potentials (<1.3 V), the CO displays an anomalous behavior, persisting adsorbed on the surface at the high coverage oxide film, which allows us to use the CO molecule as a probe and get information about the electrode surface on the course of the reaction as well as suggests gold oxide to be an active catalyst in small organic alcohol oxidation

1st Italian Workshop on Carbon Nanotubes for Electronic Applications (ICNTE 2007)

SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP This workshop aims to highlight the state of art on carbon nanotubes research activities for electronic applications and the perspectives of the Italian research groups active in such area. The required multidisciplinary approach pushes to define a shared strategy dealing with future challenging opportunities associated with the use of CNT in this prominent field of application. In this framework, the workshop offers the opportunity to identify synergies and to promote a more robust cooperation and coordination among the different research groups. Moreover, the just started FP7 could be used as driving force for implementing the strategy, giving opportunities to the Italian research community to present new ideas, new cooperating initiatives both at National and at International levels

Distribution of adrenocorticoid receptors in the rat CNS measured by competitive PCR and cytosolic binding

Combined quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and cytosolic binding assay techniques are used to measure mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) mRNA, K-d, and B-max in various rat central nervous system (CNS) regions, namely amygdala, hypothalamus, hippocampus, cortex, pituitary, and cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spinal cord. Two internal standards (i.s.) cDNA were cloned for quantitative PCR purposes. The i.s. templates differed from the respective wild-type (wt) templates for a single base-pair mutation introduced by PCR that generated a unique restriction site, thus allowing amplification products arising from coamplification of sol and i.s. to be distinguished. Results show that cerebellum, which displayed average B-max values for both receptors, contained the highest level of MR and GR mRNA. Hippocampus also had a high level of MR mRNA. Low mRNA content was found in the hypothalamus for MR and GR as well as in the cortex for GR. High B-max values for both MR and GR were found in the lumbar spinal cord, despite a modest mRNA content. The lowest B-max values were found in the cortex for both receptors. It is, therefore, concluded that mRNA content and B-max are not closely correlated in the rat CNS. These data suggest a differential regulation of various adrenocorticoid receptor isoforms. Moreover, this quantitative PCR method is very sensitive and can be used to assay small amounts of material in order to obtain absolute measurements of mRNA expression
