A Note on: `Algorithms for Connected Set Cover Problem and Fault-Tolerant Connected Set Cover Problem'
A flaw in the greedy approximation algorithm proposed by Zhang et al. for
minimum connected set cover problem is corrected, and a stronger result on the
approximation ratio of the modified greedy algorithm is established. The
results are now consistent with the existing results on connected dominating
set problem which is a special case of the minimum connected set cover problem.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Theoretical Computer Scienc
Signatures of Extra Gauge Bosons in the Littlest Higgs Model with T-parity at Future Colliders
We study the collider signatures of a T-odd gauge boson pair
production in the Littlest Higgs Model with T-parity (LHT) at Large Hadron
Collider (LHC) and Linear Collider (LC). At the LHC, we search for the
boson using its leptonic decay, i.e. , which
gives rise to a collider signature of \ell^{+}\ell^{\prime-}+\met. We
demonstrate that the LHC not only has a great potential of discovering the
boson in this channel, but also can probe enormous parameter space of
the LHT. Due to four missing particles in the final state, one cannot
reconstruct the mass of at the LHC. But such a mass measurement can be
easily achieved at the LC in the process of . We present an
algorithm of measuring the mass and spin of the boson at the LC.
Furthermore, we illustrate that the spin correlation between the boson and
its mother particle () can be used to distinguish the LHT from other new
physics models.Comment: version to appear in PRD (a few references added
Spin transverse force and intrinsic quantum transverse transport
The spin-orbit coupling may generate spin transverse force on moving electron
spin, which gives a heuristic picture for the quantum transverse transport of
electron. A relation between the spin and anomalous Hall conductance and spin
force was established, and applied to several systems. It was predicted that
the sign change of anomalous Hall conductance can occur in diluted magnetic
semiconductors of narrow band and can be applied to identify intrinsic
mechanism experimentally
On the Application of Code-switching Strategy in Business English Teaching Under the Construction of “New Liberal Arts”
In English teaching classrooms, code switching is becoming a common phenomenon and as a teaching strategy it has been widely used by teachers in China. Under the background of construction of “New Liberal Arts”, this paper sets out to investigate teachers’ code-switching strategy in ESP (English for Special Purposes) teaching, especially in business English teaching classrooms. It is found that conscious and necessary code-switching in ESP teaching classrooms can make teaching more efficient, and its functions and positive effects on bilingual teaching should not be underestimated. It is hoped that this study can provide some suggestion to ESP teaching and help enhance an effective teaching mode by using code-switching strategy and suggest that teachers should be aware of this teaching tactic and use it technically in their teaching process.

Applying Bayesian Belief Network To Understand Public Perception On Green Stormwater Infrastructures In Vermont
Decisions of adopting best management practices made on residential properties play an important role in reduction of nutrient loading from non-point sources into Lake Champlain and other waterbodies in Vermont. In this study, we use Bayesian belief network (BBN) to analyze a 2015 survey dataset about adoption of six types of green infrastructures (GSIs) in Vermont’s residential areas. Learning BBNs from physical probabilities of the variables provides a visually explicit approach to reveal the message delivered by the dataset. Using both unsupervised and supervised machine learning algorithms, we are able to generate networks that connect the variables of interest and conduct inference to look into the probabilistic associations between the variables. Unsupervised learning reveals the underlying structures of the dataset without presumptions. Supervised learning provides insights for how each factor (e.g. demographics, risk perception, and attribution of responsibilities) influence individuals’ pro-environmental behaviors. We also compare the effectiveness of BBN approach and logistic regression in predicting the pro-environmental behaviors (adoption of GSIs).
The results show that influencing factors for current adoption vary by different types of GSI. Risk perception of stormwater issues are associated with adoption of GSIs. Runoff issues are more likely to be considered as the governments’ (town, state, and federal agencies) responsibility, whereas lawn erosion is more likely to be considered as the residents’ own responsibility. When using the same set of variables to predict pro-environmental behaviors (adoption of GSI), BBN approach produces more accurate prediction compared to logistic regression
Reading Pablo Neruda across the Sea
Pablo Neruda, (1904-1973) is the famous Chilean poet. He has experienced a lot of ups and downs in his life as well as in his poet career. This thesis intends to introduce him to the Chinese readers, recalls his spread in China and analyzes his special feelings in his poetry and the charming effect from it. Law of large numbers for branching symmetric Hunt processes with measure-valued branching rates
We establish weak and strong law of large numbers for a class of branching
symmetric Hunt processes with the branching rate being a smooth measure with
respect to the underlying Hunt process, and the branching mechanism being
general and state-dependent. Our work is motivated by recent work on strong law
of large numbers for branching symmetric Markov processes by Chen-Shiozawa [J.
Funct. Anal., 250, 374--399, 2007] and for branching diffusions by
Engl\"ander-Harris-Kyprianou [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincar\'e Probab. Stat., 46,
279--298, 2010]. Our results can be applied to some interesting examples that
are covered by neither of these papers
