The Right of an Indigent Juvenile in Ohio to a Transcript at State Expense

    Get PDF
However, like the court in Gault, the new juvenile code in Ohio failed to cope with a problem which appears to be moving toward litigation in the near future, that of the right of an indigent juvenile offender in Ohio to be provided with a transcript of the testimony and evidence presented at his juvenile hearing with the cost thereof to be charged to the state. At this point, I would like to turn directly to an analysis of existing case law in Ohio and throughout the nation, as well as statutory language and its interpretation by Ohio courts of the right of an indigent juvenile to a free transcript

Civil tiltrotor missions and applications. Phase 2: The commercial passenger market

    Get PDF
The commercial passenger market for the civil tiltrotor was examined in phase 2. A market responsive commercial tiltrotor was found to be technically feasible, and a significant worldwide market potential was found to exist for such an aircraft, especially for relieving congestion in urban area-to-urban area service and for providing cost effective hub airport feeder service. Potential technical obstacles of community noise, vertiport area navigation, surveillance, and control, and the pilot/aircraft interface were determined to be surmountable. Nontechnical obstacles relating to national commitment and leadership and development of ground and air infrastructure were determined to be more difficult to resolve; an innovative public/private partnership is suggested to allow coordinated development of an initial commercial tiltrotor network to relieve congestion in the crowded US Northeast corridor by the year 2000

Deep Machine Learning for Mechanical Performance and Failure Prediction

Deep learning has provided opportunities for advancement in many fields. One such opportunity is being able to accurately predict real world events. Ensuring proper motor function and being able to predict energy output is a valuable asset for owners of wind turbines. In this paper, we look at how effective a deep neural network is at predicting the failure or energy output of a wind turbine. A data set was obtained that contained sensor data from 17 wind turbines over 13 months, measuring numerous variables, such as spindle speed and blade position and whether or not the wind turbine experienced a failure at that time. It was found that the deep neural network was able to predict the failure and energy output with a high degree of accuracy, with an average residual of -0.005 for key predictors, thus validating its use as a potential predictor of energy production or safety hazards caused by mechanical failure

A coded aperture imaging system optimized for hard X-ray and gamma ray astronomy

A coded aperture imaging system was designed for the Gamma-Ray imaging spectrometer (GRIS). The system is optimized for imaging 511 keV positron-annihilation photons. For a galactic center 511-keV source strength of 0.001 sq/s, the source location accuracy is expected to be + or - 0.2 deg

Gene Expression during Survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in Soil and Water

The in vitro survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 at 15°C under two experimental conditions (sterile soil and sterile natural water) was examined. DNA microarrays of the entire set of E. coli O157:H7 genes were used to measure the genomic expression patterns after 14 days. Although the populations declined, some E. coli O157:H7 cells survived in sterile stream water up to 234 days and in sterile soil for up to 179 days. Cells incubated in soil microcosms for 14 days expressed genes for antibiotic resistance, biosynthesis, DNA replication and modification, metabolism, phages, transposons, plasmids, pathogenesis and virulence, antibiotic resistance, ribosomal proteins, the stress response, transcription, translation, and transport and binding proteins at significantly higher levels than cells grown in Luria broth. These results suggest that E. coli O157:H7 may develop a different phenotype during transport through the environment. Furthermore, this pathogen may become more resistant to antibiotics making subsequent infections more difficult to treat
