This paper presents the doctoral dissertation project in Cultural Studies titled Tourism and Death: representation, mediation and language technologies, with emphasis on its framing within Cultural Studies and on the planned methodological approach. It introduces the main theoretical areas that provide the basis for the research and describes the planned empirical study, further discussing the proposed methodological strategy.Neste artigo apresenta-se o projeto de dissertação de doutoramento em Estudos Culturais intitulado Turismo e Morte: representação, mediação e tecnologias de linguagem, dando-se particular ênfase ao seu enquadramento dentro dos Estudos Culturais e à abordagem metodológica planeada. São introduzidas as principais áreas teóricas que dão a base à investigação e descreve-se o estudo empírico planificado, discutindo-se de forma mais detalhada a estratégia metodológica proposta

Using ¹²⁹Xe NMR to Probe the Structure of Ionic Liquids

The mesoscopic structure of 30 distinct ionic liquids was probed by ¹²⁹Xe NMR spectroscopy. The interpretation of the experimental data was complemented using molecular dynamics results. The results clearly show that xenon can effectively probe the various environments characteristic of different ionic liquids (ILs) and is thus able to distinguish between distinct ionic liquid families, including different types of interactions with diverse types of anion/polar networks. A finer analysis of the NMR data also confirmed that the xenon probes can also provide information on how the complex structure of an IL evolves along a homologous series
