Quality Audit in the Fastener Industry

    Get PDF
Both the financial and quality communities rely on audits to verify customers records. The financial community is highly structured around three categories of risk, INHERENT RISK, CONTROL RISK, and DETECTION RISK. Combined, the product of these three categories constitute the AUDIT RISK. The financial community establishes CONTROL RISK based in large part on a systems level understanding of the process flow. This system level understanding is best expressed in a flowchart. The quality community may be able to adopt this structure and thereby reduce cost while maintaining and enhancing quality. The quality community should attempt to flowchart the systems level quality process before beginning substantive testing. This theory needs to be applied in several trial cases to prove or disprove this hypothesi

    Composite overwrapped nickel-hydrogen pressure vessels

    Get PDF
The presentation is made in viewgraph format, the first of which states the purpose, which is to stimulate interest in composite overwrapped pressure vessel technology as applied to nickel hydrogen battery pressure vessels. The next viewgraph presents the history of nickel hydrogen pressure vessels over the last 15 years including materials, operating conditions, and market expansion to internationals. Basic materials properties are itemized such as thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and strength to weight ratio. The monolithic and composite overwrapped construction approaches are compared. A detailed description is presented of the advantages of composite overwrapped pressure vessels showing weight savings, manufacturing schedule reductions, and improved fatigue life. A discussion is also presented of B-1 application, the wide range of usable materials, and a sketch of a possible optimized design

Assessment of a prototype sunphotometer for network applications, phase 1

Data taken in Tucson, AZ, for comparing the CE sunphotometer's results against the Univ. of Arizona's no. 3 solar radiometer are in very good agreement. The spectral voltage intercepts obtained on 15 different days taken with the CE instrument during a seven week period are stable and follow the same daily trends as the voltage intercepts for similar wavelengths contained in the Univ. of Arizona's no. 3 radiometer. The spectral optical depths obtained from both instruments are also in very good agreement and follow the same trends. The only problem that exists in the CE instrument does not have a heater to stabilize the detector temperature which is important around 1000 nm. Zenith sky radiance scans are in good agreement, but both instruments are biased by direct solar rays entering the instrument's respective entrance apertures. All diffuse light data shown were, therefore, taken with the instruments shielded from the direct sun. The CE sunphotometer results pertaining to the water vapor wavelength's are also in good agreement with the Univ. of Arizona's no. 3 and should prove useful for water vapor retrieval

    Disturbances in the Arizona Monsoon

Numerical modeling simulations of tropical squall lines were begun to determine the role of large scale terrain features over Arizona and Mexico in their initiation and propagation. Installation was completed for a short-base, high resolution lightning location and detection network in and around Tucson. Data from a Doppler wind profiler is being analyzed to determine the role of large scale heating over the inter-mountain plateau region in governing local diurnal wind variations and possible relationships to the monsoon flow. The portable solar photometer for determining high temporal resolution values of the local precipitable water vapor was completed and calibrated. The assembly is nearly completed for a multi-channel microwave passive radiometer to determine local temperature and water vapor profiles

GAL4 disrupts a repressing nucleosome during activation of GAL1 transcription in vivo

Photofootprinting in vivo of GALl reveals an activation- dependent pattern between the UASG and the TATA box, in a sequence not required for transcriptional activation by GAL4. The pattern results from a nucleosome whose position depends on sequences within the UASG. In the wild-type gene, activation by GAL4 and derivatives disrupts this nucleosome. This activity is independent of interactions with DNA-bound core transcription factors and is proportional to the strength of the activator. Presence of the nucleosome correlates with low basal transcription levels under various conditions, suggesting a role in limiting basal expression. We propose a role for the GAL4 activation domain in displacing a nucleosome and suggest that this is part of the mechanism by which GAL4 activates transcription in vivo
