    ANIMATED REASONING: Supporting Students’ Mechanistic Reasoning in Physics by Constructing Stop-Motion Animations

    Mechanistic reasoning (MR), which is a form of causal reasoning, is an essential aspect of science education. To support students in developing MR, students in this series of studies were tasked with constructing and using a model in the form of a stop-motion animation (SMA). In SMA students create a sequence of frames (images) representing a natural phenomenon. After creating the SMA, they were asked to explain the phenomenon on the basis of their own model. This dissertation describes four separate studies that were conducted to address the main research question: How can student-constructed SMAs be used as a pedagogical approach to support students in developing MR? Our studies show, both theoretically and empirically, that the specific nature of SMA construction, i.e., breaking up a natural phenomenon in chunks and then sequencing these chunks in order to create the SMA, played a crucial role as a cognitive support for students in developing key elements of MR. Based on the findings, our studies suggest practical implications regarding for implementing SMA construction activities in a science classroom to support students’ MR. The results contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the implementation of SMA-based modeling in science classrooms that supports students in developing MR, in particular, and in science learning, in general

    Indikator pembelajaran bermakna adalah mahasiswa mampu memecahkan masalah dengan cara sendiri. Cara mahasiswa memecahkan masalah sangat dipengaruhi oleh keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa. Salah satu cara mengetahui bagaimana mahasiswa belajar memecahkan masalah adalahdengan melihat bagaimana mahasiswa memetakan masalah, sehingga akan terlihat cara mahasiswa mengkonstruksi pengetahuannya untuk memecahkan masalah. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan strategi pembelajaran yang dapat mendesain dan melihat bagaimana mahasiswa bisa memecahkan masalah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model pembelajaran problem mapping concept (PMC) dan mengukur efektivitas model pembelajaran PMC terhadap keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa. Desain penelitian untuk pengembangan model pembelajaran PMC adalah metode penelitian dan pengembangan Borg and Gall. Validasi isi dan konstruk kelayakan model pembelajaran PMC dilakukan olah ahli. Hasil validasi menunjukkan model pembelajaran PMC layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Dampak model pembelajaran PMC terhadap keterampilan proses sainsmahasiswa dilihat dengan membandingkan hasil pretes dan postes keterampilan proses sains. Uji-t berpasangan sisi atas digunakan untuk menganalisis pengaruh model belajar terhadap keterampilan proses sains. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran PMC secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengkaji keterampilan mahasiswa secara kolaboratif menyelesaikan saat diberikan permasalahan pembelajaran dan disebut Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS). Metode yang digunakan untuk mengkaji keterampilan CPS mahasiswa menggunakan evaluasi countenance stake. Analisis skema observation dan judgement menggunakan pendekatan Model Rasch. Metode pengumpulan data secara observasi untuk keterampilan CPS meliputi Cognitive Skills dan Social Skills, data lembar hasil penyelesaian masalah (LO), dan Kuesioner pengalaman belajar mahasiswa (CEQ). Hasil analisis congruence dan contigency dengan Model Rasch menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki cognitive skills yang cukup baik, namun social skills mahasiswa tidak dimiliki secara maksimal. Sehingga tingkat keberhasilan penyelesaian masalah masih kurang dari standar karena berbagai potensi ide solusi seluruh anggota tidak terakomodir secara baik. Selain itu, temuan penelitian memberikan rekomendaasi perlunya kajian lebih lanjut terkait keterempilan bernalar dan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah agar diketahui kreativitas berpikir dan cara bernalar seperti apa yang digunakan mahasiswa untuk mengambil keputusan atau solusi permasalahan

    Learning for this course is done either face to face or self-employment . Activities undertaken to deliver face- recognition theory and observation of the sky how to use the software as well as the results of previous observations , while self-employment activities are used as a standalone or in groups on the observation of celestial bodies . In addition to face- to-face , students get the material being taught or additional material in the medium of e -learning . Observation of celestial bodies without face to face , then the student gets a sheet works of e -learning and faculty supervision on the activities of student activities with an interactive way directly through the medium of e -learning. Instructional media used is a module , telescope , Stellarium software , video observations of celestial bodies . Always learning activities are integrated with the LMS media e -learning which has been used in university muddy . The presence of media e -learning is needed to study astronomy . In the media provided services for students and for faculty . Lecturers can mengaupload additional material either written or video as an enrichment of students , assignments , worksheets observations of celestial bodies , and quizzes . Students and faculty can interact with the chat service when the observation of celestial bodies independently so that teachers can supervise student activities and student can immediately respond in the event of problems when the observation took place . The method used is the method of research and development ( research and development ) so that this research will generate astronomical lecture material products based e -learning and test the effectiveness of these products . Based on the test results and analysis of data , the conclusions of this study are astronomical learning design can be designed with problem-based learning approach is by way of celestial observation project method . Product astronomy lectures designed teaching materials based e -learning so effective after hours face to face lectures , students can still make access learning through the medium of e -learning

    Abstract The research aimed to improved the learning activity and learning outcomes ofcognitive students about the concept of physics with cooperative learning model typethink pair share in students grade XI IPA 3 SMAN 3 Jember in the lesson of 2017/2018,with 34 students. The type of research was classroom action research. The research consisted two cycles, began with the initial activity cycle. The result of the research wasanalyzed descriptively consisted of two indicators such as learning activity and learningoutcomes research. The learning activity of student got average value on cycle I equal to52% which enter in category enough active and at second cycle equal to 77% included inactive category. While for the study results obtained from the average score for the firstcycle of 67 in the category enough and the second cycle of 77 included in either categorywith 80% completeness.     PENGEMBANGAN MIND MAP PADA POKOK BAHASAN MOMENTUM, IMPULS, DAN TUMBUKAN

    The purpose of this research were: (1) describing the logical validity of mindmap product on the topic momentum, impuls, and collision, (2) describing studentlearning result in using of mind map product on the topic momentum, impuls, andcollision, (3) describing the student response after using of mind map product on thetopic momentum, impuls, and collision. The type of this research was developmentresearch in SMAN 2 Jember. Data collection methods used were documentation,observation, interview, and test. Data analysis techniques used were validationinstrument, drew mind map for student learning result, and percentage of studentresponses. The result of the research were: (1) the validity of product mind map bythe validators were 4,52 and quite valid, (2) the percentage of classical completenesswas 97,2% fall into the category of very good, (3) the students respons after learningwith mind map 82%. The conclusion by development mind map on the topicmomentum, impuls, and collision were the logical validity was valid, the studentlearning result was very good and the students respons gave positive category.Keyword: Mind Map, Student Learning Result, Momentum Impuls Collision

    Abstract The use of modules and organizing a good material helped students tounderstand the material and students were able to achieve the results of the study.Integrated learning cycle 5E model into a module was one of the constructivistapproach that prioritizes the student as the center of the learning activities. Thisresearch resulted in a product module of learning physics-based 5E learning cycle inharmonious vibration subject for high school students. This research used 4-D designmodel of development. The results of the validation 3.98 and included in criteria quitevalid. The precentage of the effectiveness this module was 62.96% and included incriteria of effective.     Abstract The physics comic module was developed on the subject of Kepler law. Thisdevelopment is made for focusing the learning to student, so that students can learnindependently and improve the students’ imagination, also the physics learning on thesubject of Kepler law becomes more easily to be understood. The purpose of thisresearch were to know the validity and effectivity of physics comic module on thesubject of Kepler law. This research used Borg and Gall development research model.This research was conducted in SMA Nurul Islam Jember XI Grade. The data obtainedin this study are validation data. The analysis performed is validation analysis basedon expert validator and user validator, also effectiveness analysis based on audiencevalidator. The validity criteria of physics comic module was 78,75% and the effectivitycriteria of physic comic module was 71,38%. Based on these data, it can be concludedthat physics comic module was valid enough and effective enough, so can be used inteaching and learning process with a little revision.Key word: module development, physics comic, kepler’s law

    The purposes of this study are assessing the effect of guided discovery learning model with LKS based on multirepresentation to the Senior High School student’s ability of physics verbal, images (VG) representations, and describing student learning activities. The type of this research is an experimental research. Population of the research was all student’s at SMA Negeri 1 Tapen Bondowoso. Physics VG representation is collected through test, and student learning activities is collected through observations and portofolio. The test results of experimental class and control class are analysed by independent sample t-test using SPSS version 22. The results of the analysis of independent sample t-test for the ability of verbal representations show the Sig. (One-tailed) was 0.000. The results of the analysis of independent sample t-test for the ability of pictorial representations show the Sig. (One-tailed) was 0.000. It can be concluded that guided discovery learning model based LKS based on multirepresentation significantly affect the SMA Negeri 1 Tapen Bondowoso student’s ability of physics VG. The score of student learning activities during learning process are using guided discovery learning model with LKS based on multirepresentation is 88%, it is included very active category

    AbstractThis research was a development research to produce a development productin the form of scientific based module to train critical thinking ability. 4D was used tobe the development model consisting of 4 stages, but in this research only on untilthird stage that defined, design, and develop. Instrument used in this research wasvalidation sheet, student response questionnaire, and critical thinking ability test.Based on the results of expert validation analysis found that the validity criterion of88.19%, which was at the validity level was very valid and the result of user validationanalysis was known that the validity criteria obtained is 100% and the validity levelwas very valid. The result of pretest and posttest analysis showed that the average NGain score is 0.53 which was in the medium category. Then for the student responseof scientific-based module got a positive response of 88.68%. So the scientific-basedmodule had very practical criteria used in learning.Key word: scientific, validation, student respon, critical thinking
