NEMA-NU 2-2012 VALIDATION OF A GEANT4 MODEL OF IN-BEAM PET FOR HEAVY-ION THERAPY

The purpose of this work is to build a validated simulation modelof a whole-body PET scanner constructed from the four-layer depth-ofinteractiondetectors developed at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, Japan, using the Geant4 Monte Carlo toolkit. Once validated, the model can then be used to generate an expected PET image from the treatment plan for comparison to the image acquired during treatment, which will assist in the development of methods for directly estimating the delivered dose from the measured positron-annihilation map
