Kekule-distortion-induced Exciton instability in graphene
Effects of a Kekule distortion on exciton instability in single-layer
graphene are discussed. In the framework of quantum electrodynamics the mass of
the electron generated dynamically is worked out using a Schwinger-Dyson
equation. For homogeneous lattice distortion it is shown that the generated
mass is independent of the amplitude of the lattice distortion at the one-loop
approximation. Formation of excitons induced by the homogeneous Kekule
distortion could appear only through direct dependence of the lattice
distortion.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur

EDUCATION AND FREEDOM IN FREDERICK DOUGLASS'S THE NARRATIVE OF THELIFE OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS, AN AMERICAN SLAVE
The inalienable rights related to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness highly advocated by the American Declaration of Independence fail to bring hopes to fruition. They prove restricted in their implementation due to circumstances dictated by race and the institution of slavery. Blacks of every age suffer extremist hardships which deprive them from the key to success: education. Frederick Douglass, a fugitive slave and fiercely dedicated to abolitionist principles and goals reveals in his book The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, his heroic journey from slavery to freedom while experiencing education as a sine qua non condition. In light of this, the present paper quests racism as an American social plague and demonstrates how education saves African-Americans from the yoke of a certain, dehumanization
Memory erasure in small systems
We consider an overdamped nanoparticle in a driven double-well potential as a
generic model of an erasable one-bit memory. We study in detail the statistics
of the heat dissipated during an erasure process and show that full erasure may
be achieved by dissipating less heat than the Landauer bound. We quantify the
occurrence of such events and propose a single-particle experiment to verify
our predictions. Our results show that Landauer's principle has to be
generalized at the nanoscale to accommodate heat fluctuations.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
The third parafermionic chiral algebra with the symmetry Z_{3}
We have constructed the parafermionic chiral algebra with the principal
parafermionic fields \Psi,\Psi^{+} having the conformal dimension
\Delta_{\Psi}=8/3 and realizing the symmetry Z_{3}.Comment: 6 pages, no figur

Parafermionic theory with the symmetry Z_N, for N even
Following our previous papers (hep-th/0212158 and hep-th/0303126) we complete
the construction of the parafermionic theory with the symmetry Z_N based on the
second solution of Fateev-Zamolodchikov for the corresponding parafermionic
chiral algebra. In the present paper we construct the Z_N parafermionic theory
for N even. Primary operators are classified according to their transformation
properties under the dihedral group (Z_N x Z_2, where Z_2 stands for the Z_N
charge conjugation), as two singlets, doublet 1,2,...,N/2-1, and a disorder
operator. In an assumed Coulomb gas scenario, the corresponding vertex
operators are accommodated by the Kac table based on the weight lattice of the
Lie algebra D_{N/2}. The unitary theories are representations of the coset
SO_n(N) x SO_2(N) / SO_{n+2}(N), with n=1,2,.... We suggest that physically
they realise the series of multicritical points in statistical systems having a
Z_N symmetry
