    Improvement in Quality of Wine by Blending White and Coloured Grapes

    Blending of juices from four white grape varieties viz., Thompson Seedless, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Italia with three coloured varieties, viz., Shiraz, Ruby Red and Bangalore Blue, was done in 2:1 and 3:1 ratios to assess the effect of blending on wine quality. White varieties blended with Bangalore Blue recorded maximum titratable acidity (1.23%), while those blended with Ruby Red showed the least acidity (0.42%), Alcohol content in the wine ranged from 8.11% (Italia + Ruby Red, 2:1) to 12.04% (Chenin Blanc + Shiraz, 2:1). The range of values for tannin content (0.007% to 0.044 %) and total phenol content (228mg/l to 571mg/l) indicated that white varieties blended with the coloured cv. Shiraz had the lowest content of tannins and total phenols in wine, while, those blended with cv. Ruby Red showed highest content of these in the blended wines. Hence, among different blends, Chenin Blanc, Thompson Seedless, Sauvignon Blanc and Italia blended with the coloured variety Shiraz, in 2:1 ratio, produced good quality wine

The natural, total and fishing mortalities recorded as 0.86, 1.48 and 0.62 y-1,respectively. The exploitation ratio (F/Z) was observed as 0.42. The M/K ratio was estimated at 1.23. The average fork length of 46 cm and weight of 2024 g were estimated in the samples collected. The length at the end of 1st year to 5th year was observed to be 33, 52, 64, 70 and 75 cm, respectively. The fishing mortality derived in this study is more than the optimum and limit value indicated the sign of overexploitation

Through a voltage multiplier unit composed of switched capacitors and coupled inductors, a conventional interleaved boost converter obtains high step-up gain without operating at extreme duty ratio. The design of the proposed converter not only reduces the current stress but also constrains the input current ripple, which decreases the conduction losses and lengthens the lifetime of the input source. In addition, due to the lossless passive clamp performance, leakage energy is recycled to the output terminal. Hence, large voltage spikes across the main switches are alleviated, and the efficiency is improved. Even the low voltage stress makes the low-voltage-rated MOSFETs be adopted for reductions of conduction losses and cost. Finally, the prototype circuit with 40-V input voltage, 380-V output, and 1000-W output power is operated to verify its performance. The highest efficiency is 97.1%.     Analysis of the washability characteristics of low-volatile Indian coking coal with crushing at different top sizes - a case study

    The effect of comminution on liberation characteristics has been studied for a low volatile coking coal of Indian origin through washability studies. Two parameters, namely "Index of Washability" (IW) and "Near Gravity Material Index" (NGMI), are used to describe the ease of washability. The ROM Coal is crushed to four different top sizes namely, 75 mm, 25 mm, 13 mm and 6mm. On the basis of calculated IW it is observed that relative ease of washabiltiy increases with decrease in top size. The value of IW at -6 mm crushing size is 41.4 which confirm the ease of washing of this coal at this feed size. From the calculated NGMI values the critical specific gravities have bee n estimated. Critical specific gravity suggests that the separation at this specific gravity range is most difficult task using gravity methods. NGMI analysis reveals that the critical specific gravities for crushing to -75 mm, -25 mm, -13 mm and -6mm are 1.65, 1.68, 1.53 and 1.58 respectively

    Potentials of airborne hyperspectral aviris-ng data in the exploration of base metal deposit—a study in the parts of Bhilwara, Rajasthan

    In this study, we have processed the spectral bands of airborne hyperspectral data of Advanced Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer-Next Generation (AVIRIS-NG) data for delineating the surface signatures associated with the base metal mineralization in the Pur-Banera area in the Bhilwara district, Rajasthan, India.The primaryhost rocks of the Cu, Pb, Zn mineralization in the area are Banded Magnetite Quartzite (BMQ), unclassified calcareous silicates, and quartzite. We used ratio images derived from the scale and root mean squares (RMS) error imagesusing the multi-range spectral feature fitting (MRSFF) methodto delineate host rocks from the AVIRIS-NG image. The False Color Composites (FCCs) of different relative band depth images, derived from AVIRIS-NG spectral bands, were also used for delineating few minerals. These minerals areeither associated with the surface alteration resulting from the ore-bearing fluid migration orassociated with the redox-controlled supergene enrichments of the ore deposit.The results show that the AVIRIS-NG image products derived in this study can delineate surface signatures of mineralization in 1:10000 to 1:15000 scales to narrow down the targets for detailed exploration.This study alsoidentified the possible structural control over the knownsurface distribution of alteration and lithocap minerals of base metal mineralizationusing the ground-based residual magnetic anomaly map. This observationstrengthens the importance of the identified surface proxiesas an indicator of mineralization. X-ray fluorescence analysis of samples collectedfromselected locations within the study area confirms the Cu-Pb-Zn enrichment. The sulfide minerals were also identified in the microphotographs of polished sections of rock samples collected from the places where surface proxies of mineralization were observed in the field. This study justified the investigation to uti-lize surface signatures of mineralization identified using AVIRIS-NG dataand validated using field observations, geophysical, geochemical, and petrographical data

    GPS Signal Multipath Error Mitigation Technique

    The performance of GPS receiver depends on the accuracy of the range measurements. The predominant errors in range measurements are due to propagation path delays, making the measured range longer than it would be, if the signal has not reflected or refracted while propagating. In this chapter, an algorithm is proposed to mitigate the multipath error on the pseudorange measured from L1 carrier frequency. The error is estimated considering the linear combination of the GPS measurements and carrier frequencies of L band, viz. L1 and L2. This algorithm exploits the random nature of the multipath error and it avoids complex calculations involving sensitive parameter like reflection coefficient of the nearby reflectors. The multipath error is mitigated for standalone GPS receiver located in Indian subcontinent. Implementation of the algorithm shows pseudorange error due to multipath varied from 7 to 52 m, where the signals of low elevation satellites are most affected. GPS receiver position is calculated by considering multipath error corrected pseudoranges of all the visible satellites. This resulted in maximum error reduction of 30 m in receiver position estimates. This mitigation technique will be useful in selecting the site for GPS receiving antenna, where reflection coefficients are difficult to measure

    Triple-Hop Hybrid FSO/mmW Based Backhaul Communication System for Wireless Networks Applications of 5G and beyond

    Wireless networks applications of 5G and beyond require high throughput and high capacity. To achieve this, a macro cell is split into several small cells. When using Free Space Optics (FSO) some of the small cell base stations (BSs) which are located at the edges of a macro cell may not directly communicate with the base station of that macro cell, resulting in high outage probability (OP) and average bit error rate (ABER). Therefore, there is a need to develop a new system model to improve the OP and ABER performance. For such scenarios, triple-hop (TH) hybrid free space optics/millimeter wave (FSO/mmW) system has been proposed by considering neighboring small cell BSs as intermediate relays to forward the backhaul data. The OP and ABER of the proposed TH hybrid FSO/mmW system are derived for various channel conditions and are further verified by performing Monte-Carlo simulations. In this work, FSO link is modeled by Gamma-Gamma distribution over weak and strong turbulence channel conditions. Further the mmW link is modeled by using Nakagami-m distribution which perfectly models various fading scenarios

    ANTI-DIABETIC ACTIVITY OF TRADITIONAL POLYHERBAL FORMULATION: DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION

    Herbal therapy has emerged as a prominent therapeutic approach for a wide range of ailments. In tandem with a nutritious diet and lifestyle, these interventions aim to address certain health objectives by supplying each cell with the most suitable and advantageous nourishment. There exists a botanical alternative for each synthetic medicine now available. Material and Methods: The herbs utilized in the formulation were obtained from reputable vendors and subsequently verified by Department of Life Sciences, Garden City University, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. For the purpose of standardizing raw materials, shade-dried powdered plant parts from the plants Berberis aristata (dried stem), Terminalia chebula (pericarp of matured fruit), Emblica officinalis (pericarp of dried mature fruit), Terminalalia belerica (pericarp of dried ripe fruit), and Cyperus rotundus (dried rhizome) are used. Results: Blood glucose and lipid profiles were taken first thing in the morning. The formulation had a significant impact when compared to the typical range before diabetes was introduced. Total cholesterol, bad LDL cholesterol, and bad triglyceride levels were all reduced while HDL levels were increased. The phytochemical investigation backed up the claim that flavonoids were present. This may explain why it has such a dramatic impact on treating diabetes. It is recommended that future clinical trials be conducted in Human Volunteers, and that stability studies be conducted on the manufactured polyherbal capsules. Conclusion: The oldest type of therapy, herbal remedies are used to identify and treat illnesses. An animal model was used to assess the antidiabetic potency of five raw materials that were chosen for formulation into polyherbal capsules. The capsules significantly improved the lipid profile and fasting blood glucose indices, as well as their anti-diabetic efficacy. Future use is advised to pursue additional stability research and clinical trials
