    ROLE OF PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND SYSTEM CHARACTERISTICS IN PREDICTING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ONLINE LEARNING- AN INDIAN PERSPECTIVE

    Online learning has become a trend in education over the years with the emergence of Web 2.0 and the advancement in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). As the organisational spending has risen for providing better learning and training, the expectations for outcomes also have increased. Learning effectiveness can be thought of as one of the parameters to assess the success of online learning. A survey was conducted with 377 higher education students from India who have already taken an online learning course. The study used Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to understand the impact of personal factors (internet self-efficacy), system characteristics (information quality, system quality, service quality), and engagement (behavioural, emotional, cognitive engagement) on learning effectiveness in online learning through an integration of Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), and DeLone and McLean’s IS success model. The result shows that internet self-efficacy has a positive impact on all types of engagement whereas, system and service quality have a positive impact on emotional and cognitive engagement, and information quality has an impact on only behavioural engagement. Furthermore, all types of engagement have a positive impact on perceived learning effectiveness. Theoretical contributions and practical implications are discussed

    Software testing is an important and valuable part of the software development life cycle. Due to time, cost and other circumstances, exhaustive testing is not feasible that's why there is a need to automate the software testing process. Testing effectiveness can be achieved by the State Transition Testing (STT) which is commonly used in real time, embedded and web-based type of software systems. Aim of the current paper is to present an algorithm by applying an ant colony optimization technique, for generation of optimal and minimal test sequences for behavior specification of software. Present paper approach generates test sequence in order to obtain the complete software coverage.     Assessment, Implication, and Analysis of Online Consumer Reviews: A Literature Review

    The onset of e-marketplace, virtual communities and social networking has appreciated the influential capability of online consumer reviews (OCR) and therefore necessitate conglomeration of the body of knowledge. This article attempts to conceptually cluster academic literature in both management and technical domain. The study follows a framework which broadly clusters management research under two heads: OCR Assessment and OCR Implication (business implication). Parallel technical literature has been reviewed to reconcile methodologies adopted in the analysis of text content on the web, majorly reviews. Text mining through automated tools, algorithmic contribution (dominant majorly in technical stream literature) and manual assessment (derived from the stream of content analysis) has been studied in this review article. Literature survey of both the domains is analyzed to propose possible area for further research. Usage of text analysis methods along with statistical and data mining techniques to analyze review text and utilize the knowledge creation for solving managerial issues can possibly constitute further work.     Evaluating Quality of Matrimonial Websites: Balancing Emotions with Economics

    There are a plethora of studies evaluating the quality of websites on functional and design-related aspects such as usability and visual parameters. The majority of these studies are related to e-commerce websites where individuals make decision largely relying on economic parameters. However, matrimonial websites are unique, as the decisions involve both economic and non-economic parameters. Therefore, this study aims to propose a framework to evaluate quality of matrimonial websites by incorporating contextual factors and examine differences among different groups of users. This study proffers a website evaluating framework considering non-economic and emotion based factors from the information systems (IS) success model and the search match interaction (SMI) framework. The study proposes a hybrid model of multi-criteria decision-making techniques—namely Fuzzy-AHP and ranking models such as evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), and complex proportional assessment (COPRAS). The results indicate that the context-specific factors related to search and matchmaking options are the most preferred parameters for evaluation. Males and females have been found to differ in their preferences related to service quality and price. Next, the study compares the performance of three ranking models, namely EDAS, TOPSIS, and COPRAS. The first and second models provide similar results, while the rankings obtained through COPRAS differ slightly. The study contributes towards website evaluation literature by highlighting the importance of contextual factors while evaluating the matrimonial websites and the differences among preferences of the users

    Role of closed subcutaneous drain in prevention of surgical site infection in perforation peritonitis

    Background: Surgery for perforation peritonitis is associated with the highest rates of infective complications, especially surgical site infection. SSI occurs due to failure of obliteration of dead space during abdominal wound closure resulting in formation of hematoma and seroma collection in the surgical wound viz. abdominal wound in cases of perforation peritonitis. This acts as a good culture medium for bacterial organisms to grow and cause wound infection. The bacterial pathogens can be either from intra-abdominal sepsis or nosocomial in origin. Closed suction drains can be used effectively to eliminate dead space in the wound and evacuates the seroma or hematoma collection, thereby reducing chances of SSI and also helps in early detection of SSI by inspecting the nature of drain output. Aim was to evaluate the role of closed suction drains in prevention of SSI in cases of perforation peritonitis. Methods: Comparative study of 60 cases of perforation peritonitis divided into two equal groups (Group A patient with closed suction drain in subcutaneous space vs. Group B patient without closed suction drain). Outcomes of SSI were compared. Results: The incidence of SSI in Group A was 33% whereas in Group B was 70%. 40% cases in SSI in Group A whereas 76% cases of SSI in Group B developed wound dehiscence. Most cases of SSI was diagnosed on POD 2 for Group A and on POD 4 for Group B. Conclusions: The study supports use of closed suction drain in perforation peritonitis for prevention, early detection and appropriate management of SSI

    An Unusual Case of Accidental Ingestion of a Toothbrush

    Introduction: Foreign body ingestion is a common presenting complaint in the emergency department. While ingestion of small foreign bodies like coins and button batteries is not uncommon, ingestion of long and rigid foreign bodies like toothbrush is very rare. Case presentation: We describe a 36-year-old man who presented to us after accidental ingestion of a toothbrush. The patient underwent urgent endoscopic removal; Psychiatric evaluation revealed an acute and transient psychotic disorder in him. Conclusion: Ingestion of long and rigid foreign bodies like a toothbrush is an uncommon entity. Such foreign bodies when ingested find it difficult to maneuver through the GI tract, which makes their spontaneous passage almost impossible. Their ingestion is associated with increased risk of impaction, perforation and, bleeding. Therefore, early removal of the ingested toothbrush is recommended before complications develop

    Application of plastic funnel in blast hole to improve blasting efficiency of opencast coal mine at West Bokaro

    Blasting being one of the key activities of mining, its efficiency in terms of lower explosives consumption, improved rock fragmentation, decreased fly-rock, reduced noise and vibration level is very much desired for an effective mining operation which can be achieved by maximizing the utilization of explosive energy in the blast hole. Use of ‘reverse plastic funnel’ into the blast hole is one of the techniques for more utilization of explosives energy to improve blasting efficiency. The reverse plastic funnel is placed between explosive and stemming column in the blast hole which eliminates the contamination of explosive from drill cuttings (used for stemming), thus increases the Velocity of Detonation (VoD) of the explosive. Also, the conic shape of funnel creates a ‘Wedge effect’ guiding more of the explosive energy into the rock rather than upward out of the blast hole which helps in utilizing more explosive energy for rock breakage and reducing fly rock generation. In order to establish the benefit, trials were carried out in OB (overburden) benches of opencast coal mine at West Bokaro. In-hole VoD is measured by using Micro Trap VoD Recorder. It was found that the in-hole Velocity of Detonation (VoD) of the explosive is more in blast hole having funnel which means more strength of explosive. It was also observed that the fly rocks generation is negligible from blast holes in which funnels are placed
