Video framerate, resolution and grayscale tradeoffs for undersea telemanipulator

    Get PDF
The product of Frame Rate (F) in frames per second, Resolution (R) in total pixels and grayscale in bits (G) equals the transmission band rate in bits per second. Thus for a fixed channel capacity there are tradeoffs between F, R and G in the actual sampling of the picture for a particular manual control task in the present case remote undersea manipulation. A manipulator was used in the MASTER/SLAVE mode to study these tradeoffs. Images were systematically degraded from 28 frames per second, 128 x 128 pixels and 16 levels (4 bits) grayscale, with various FRG combinations constructed from a real-time digitized (charge-injection) video camera. It was found that frame rate, resolution and grayscale could be independently reduced without preventing the operator from accomplishing his/her task. Threshold points were found beyond which degradation would prevent any successful performance. A general conclusion is that a well trained operator can perform familiar remote manipulator tasks with a considerably degrade picture, down to 50 K bits/ sec

The ovarian-hormone-induced leukaemias of strain ICRC mice, with an abundance of intracytoplasmic type A particles in primary as well as transplanted lesions, were used to study morphological, biophysical, immunological and structural characteristics of type A particles. Mammary tumours of strains ICRC and C3H(Jax) were also used as sources for type A particles. The purified virions banded at the density of 1.20 g/ml in 12--60% linear sucrose-density gradient when subjected to spinning at 113,000 g for 4 h. The SDS-polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis of type A particles from mammary tumours and leukaemias reproducibly resolved at least 8 polypeptides, 2 of these 54,000 and 24,000 dalton proteins, showing variable expression. Type A particles and B particles, despite the fact that each had a distinct polypeptide pattern, showed common antigens with different electrophoretic mobilities. Proteins of 24,000, 18,000 and 12,000 daltons from B particles were found to be antigenically related to those from type A particles. The bioassay studies carried out with purified A particles showed that 2/7 males of strain ICRC and 1/6 females of strain DBA-MTI developed leukaemias, as against none in the controls, when inoculated between the ages of 1-7 days. Spleen tumour and cervical tumour were seen in one female each of strain DBA-MTI

Chandipura virus: a major cause of acute encephalitis in children in North Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, India

A hospital-based surveillance was undertaken between May 2005 and April 2006 to elucidate the contribution of Chandipura virus (CHPV) to acute viral encephalitis cases in children, seroconversion in recovered cases and to compare the seroprevalences of anti-CHPV IgM and N antibodies in areas reporting cases with those without any case of acute viral encephalitis. During this period, 90 cases of acute encephalitis were hospitalized in the pediatric wards of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital, Warangal. There were 49 deaths (Case Fatality Rate, i.e., CFR of 54.4%). Clinical samples and records were obtained from 52 suspected cases. The cases were below 15 years, majority in 0-4 years (35/52, 67.3%). Computerized tomography (CT) scans and cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) picture favored viral etiology. No neurological sequelae were observed. CHPV etiology was detected in 25 cases (48.1%, n = 52; RNA in 20, IgM in 3 and N antibody seroconversion in 2). JEV etiology was detected in 5 cases (IgM in 4 cases and seroconversion in 1 case). Anti-CHPV IgM seroprevalence in contacts (26/167, 15.6%) was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than in non-contacts (11/430, 2.6%); which was also observed in children < 15 years (19/90, 21.1% vs. 3/109, 2.7%). Anti-CHPV N antibody seroprevalence in <15 years contacts (66/90, 73.3%) and non-contacts (77/109, 70.6%) was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than in contacts (75/77, 97.4%) and non-contacts (302/321, 94.1%) more than 15 years respectively. CHPV appears to be the major cause of acute viral encephalitis in children in endemic areas during early monsoon months
