We evaluated connectivity, resiliency, and spatiotemporal variation in fish associations between the Tramandal River estuary (TRE) and the adjacent coast (AC). This was based on intermittent and seasonal data covering a discontinuous 21-year period (1995 to 2016) obtained using a standard beach seine with replicate samples collected at several points. In the TRE (405 samples; 42,987 individuals) 55 species were captured. In the AC (297 samples; 54,295 individuals) 41 species were captured. After data standardization the expected richness of the TRE [E(S) = 18.2] was significantly greater (P 70% of the total individuals sampled in both environments. General linearized models (GLM) revealed that diversity was not influenced by interannual variations, evidencing that juvenile fish assemblage of AC and TRE are resilient through the years. Standardized beach samples are able to reveal long-term fluctuation in shallow estuarine fish communities but without an apparent loss in species composition, richness, and relative total abundance. The only observed interdecadal trend was the reduction in abundance of juvenile M. liza that seemed to parallel the reduction in abundance of the adult fishing stocks in southern Brazil

This monograph aims to describe how blogs are organized for the learning process in Natural and Biological Sciences in the final years of elementary school and in high school. The structure of active and updated blogs that mentioned these subjects was analysed and we also tried to know the profile of their teachers-authors. This work is based on some main authors such as: Osborne and Hennessy (2003), Chassot (2003), Martinho and Pombo (2009) for the contextualization; Halmann (2011), Alvarado-Prada et al. (2010) and Freitas and Villani (2002) for the teaching training in Sciences and ICT; Moresco and Behar (2006), Bévort and Belloni (2009) for the use of blogs in the mentioned areas; and Halmann (2011) and Oliveira (2011) for authorship in blogs, and the guidelines of curriculum Standards of the named areas. The evaluation of these virtual spaces was done as follows: direct observation of 50 blogs that deal with Natural and Biological Sciences areas; identification of the elements following a script about authorship and structure; questionnaires to teacher-authors; and, after that, a qualitative-quantitative evaluation of the material, the usability and didactis of the blogs whose authors have answered the questionnaire. The information taken from the script and the questionnaires was presented, as absolute numbers, percentage of occurrence, or as graphic bars and also its interpretation and relation with the theory. It was verified that these spaces mainly present texts and links for texts, illustrations, videos and links for videos. The majority of the authors have post graduate degrees with more than five years experience in teaching, although with little training in using ICT. Their blogs are highlighted for the qualified and updated content. But, during the analysed period, theses spaces still showed to be difficult to use and didactically they use few animations and simulations. In conclusion, the blogs are under exploited for teacher-authors from Natural and Biological Sciences areas, making this field fertile for future studies, or to go deeper in the theme, or to compare with other disciplines

Urban bird fauna of Tramandaí and Imbé beaches, north coast, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

This paper examines a list of 27 bird species, observed during 31 months, in the urban areas of Tramandaí and Imbé beaches, Rio Grande do Sul’s north coast, Brazil. During the sampling it was possible to observe the reduction in the number of habitats and consequently the decrease in the number of species. The best-represented order was the Passeriformes, with 16 families on the list. It was also possible to observe the presence of summer visitor-species

It was compared the species composition and the abundance of shallow water fishes’ communities in five estuaries of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. It was used a patronized methodology in the winter and summer sampling. In the captures it was used a 9 m beach seine trawl (1,2 m deep, 13 mm bar mesh in the wings and 5 mm in the center). The abundance was analyzed by CPUE. The Rio Grande do Sul estuaries are in a transitional area between the tropical places, on North, and the warm-temperate places, on South. This characteristics has an important influence on the shallow water species composition. The Mampituba River, Tramandaí River and Chuí Arroyo estuaries were dominated by Mugilidae, while in Peixe Lagoon and Patos Lagoon estuarine areas the dominant family was Atherinidae. The abundance in estuaries looks to have relation with temperature latitudinal gradient and with the estuarine size
