    Estrategia de información, educación y comunicación para prevenir la infección respiratoria aguda en niños menores de 5 años: Comunidad Embera Chamí

    La Infección Respiratoria Aguda (IRA) constituye un grupo de enfermedades causadas por diferentes microrganismos como virus y bacterias, que comienzan de forma repentina y duran menos de 2 semanas. La Infección Respiratoria Aguda (IRA) es considerada la causa más frecuente de morbilidad y mortalidad en menores de 5 años en el mundo(1). Las Infección Respiratoria Aguda se ubican entre las diez primeras causas de defunción en la población en general y dentro de las tres primeras en los menores de cinco años. El promedio de muerte por Infecciones respiratorias al año es de 4,000.000 de las cuales 1,9 millones suceden en los menores de 5 años(2). En Colombia las Infecciones Respiratorias Agudas (IRA) corresponden al 7,7% de todas las consultas de urgencias y la consulta externa y el 7,4% pertenece a las hospitalizaciones de la población atendida(3). Esta problemática es de gran impacto para la salud pública, siendo importante estudiar los factores relacionados a la presencia y evolución de la Infección Respiratoria Aguda. La infección respiratoria aguda, si bien es cierto que afecta a la población infantil en Colombia los grupos étnicos, no son ajenos a esta situación (pueblos indígenas, las comunidades Negras, Afrocolombianas, Raizales y Palenqueras (NARP) y el Pueblo Rrom), especialmente la población indígena no son la excepción si se tiene en cuenta que la mayoría son afectadas por los determinantes sociales de la salud, como el hacinamiento, viviendas inadecuadas, desempleo, desplazamiento, falta de acceso a la educación lo que genera una mayor vulnerabilidad frente a este tipo de patología(2). Dentro de la revisión de la literatura se encontró que la infección respiratoria aguda en comunidades indígenas es tratada mediante la medicina ancestral, especialmente en los menores de cinco años. Un 70% de la población indígena manifi esta que estas prácticas les ha funcionado, por lo tanto, es necesario trabajar desde la medicina occidental en la articulación con la medicina tradicional para el tratamiento de enfermedades respiratorias(4). Ante la situación epidemiológica de la infección respiratoria aguda en la población infantil, fue necesario establecer una estrategia educativa para motivar a las madres Emberá Chami, en el reconocimiento de los signos y síntomas ESTRATEGIA DE INFORMACION, EDUCACION Y COMUNICACIÓN (IECS) PARA PREVENIR LAS INFECCIONES RESPIRATORIAS AGUDAS (IRA) EN NIÑOS MENORES DE 5 AÑOS EN LA COMUNIDAD EMBERA CHAMI Estrategia de información, educación y comunicación para prevenir la infección respiratoria aguda en niños menores de 5 años: COMUNIDAD EMBERA CHAMÍ 10 de peligro para la infección respiratoria aguda en los menores de cinco años y además que sea una estrategia culturalmente congruente a las necesidades de la comunidad Emberá Chamí(5)

    Characterizing carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli isolates from Spain: high genetic heterogeneity and wide geographical spread

    IntroductionCarbapenemase-Producing Escherichia coli (CP-Eco) isolates, though less prevalent than other CP-Enterobacterales, have the capacity to rapidly disseminate antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and cause serious difficult-to-treat infections. The aim of this study is phenotypically and genotypically characterizing CP-Eco isolates collected from Spain to better understand their resistance mechanisms and population structure.MethodsNinety representative isolates received from 2015 to 2020 from 25 provinces and 59 hospitals Spanish hospitals were included. Antibiotic susceptibility was determined according to EUCAST guidelines and whole-genome sequencing was performed. Antibiotic resistance and virulence-associated genes, phylogeny and population structure, and carbapenemase genes-carrying plasmids were analyzed.Results and discussionThe 90 CP-Eco isolates were highly polyclonal, where the most prevalent was ST131, detected in 14 (15.6%) of the isolates. The carbapenemase genes detected were blaOXA-48 (45.6%), blaVIM-1 (23.3%), blaNDM-1 (7.8%), blaKPC-3 (6.7%), and blaNDM-5 (6.7%). Forty (44.4%) were resistant to 6 or more antibiotic groups and the most active antibiotics were colistin (98.9%), plazomicin (92.2%) and cefiderocol (92.2%). Four of the seven cefiderocol-resistant isolates belonged to ST167 and six harbored blaNDM. Five of the plazomicin-resistant isolates harbored rmt. IncL plasmids were the most frequent (45.7%) and eight of these harbored blaVIM-1. blaOXA-48 was found in IncF plasmids in eight isolates. Metallo-β-lactamases were more frequent in isolates with resistance to six or more antibiotic groups, with their genes often present on the same plasmid/integron. ST131 isolates were associated with sat and pap virulence genes. This study highlights the genetic versatility of CP-Eco and its potential to disseminate ARGs and cause community and nosocomial infections

    International audienceThis paper describes the COMBINE software package used for statistical analyses by the CMS Collaboration. The package, originally designed to perform searches for a Higgs boson and the combined analysis of those searches, has evolved to become the statistical analysis tool presently used in the majority of measurements and searches performed by the CMS Collaboration. It is not specific to the CMS experiment, and this paper is intended to serve as a reference for users outside of the CMS Collaboration, providing an outline of the most salient features and capabilities. Readers are provided with the possibility to run COMBINE and reproduce examples provided in this paper using a publicly available container image. Since the package is constantly evolving to meet the demands of ever-increasing data sets and analysis sophistication, this paper cannot cover all details of COMBINE. However, the online documentation referenced within this paper provides an up-to-date and complete user guide

    Observation of double J/ψ\psi meson production in pPb collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 8.16 TeV

    International audienceThe first observation of the concurrent production of two J/ψ\psi mesons in proton-nucleus collisions is presented. The analysis is based on a proton-lead (pPb) data sample recorded at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 8.16 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 174.6 nb1^{-1}. The two J/ψ\psi mesons are reconstructed in their μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- decay channels with transverse momenta pTp_\mathrm{T}>\gt 6.5 GeV and rapidity y\lvert y \rvert<\lt 2.4. Events where one of the J/ψ\psi mesons is reconstructed in the dielectron channel are also considered in the search. The pPb \to J/ψ\psiJ/ψ\psi+X process is observed with a significance of 5.3 standard deviations. The measured inclusive fiducial cross section, using the four-muon channel alone, is σ\sigma(pPb\to J/ψ\psiJ/ψ\psi+X)= 22.0 ±\pm 8.9 (stat) ±\pm 1.5 (syst) nb. A fit of the data to the expected rapidity separation for pairs of J/ψ\psi mesons produced in single (SPS) and double (DPS) parton scatterings yields σSPSpPbJ/ψJ/ψ+X\sigma^{\mathrm{pPb}\to\mathrm{J}/\psi\mathrm{J}/\psi+\mathrm{X}}_\text{SPS} = 16.5 ±\pm 10.8 (stat) ±\pm 0.1 (syst) nb and σDPSpPbJ/ψJ/ψ+X\sigma^{\mathrm{pPb}\to \mathrm{J}/\psi\mathrm{J}/\psi+\mathrm{X}}_\text{DPS} = 5.4 ±\pm 6.2 (stat) ±\pm 0.4 (syst) nb, respectively. This latter result can be transformed into a lower bound on the effective DPS cross section, closely related to the squared average interparton transverse separation in the collision, of σeff\sigma_\text{eff}>\gt 1.0 mb at 95% confidence level

    Astrophysical observations provide compelling evidence for gravitationally interacting dark matter in the universe that cannot be explained by the standard model of particle physics. The extraordinary amount of data from the CERN LHC presents a unique opportunity to shed light on the nature of dark matter at unprecedented collision energies. This Report comprehensively reviews the most recent searches with the CMS experiment for particles and interactions belonging to a dark sector and for dark-sector mediators. Models with invisible massive particles are probed by searches for signatures of missing transverse momentum recoiling against visible standard model particles. Searches for mediators are also conducted via fully visible final states. The results of these searches are compared with those obtained from direct-detection experiments. Searches for alternative scenarios predicting more complex dark sectors with multiple new particles and new forces are also presented. Many of these models include long-lived particles, which could manifest themselves with striking unconventional signatures with relatively small amounts of background. Searches for such particles are discussed and their impact on dark-sector scenarios is evaluated.     Search for long-lived heavy neutrinos in the decays of B mesons produced in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    International audienceA search for long-lived heavy neutrinos (N) in the decays of \PB mesons produced in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 41.6 fb1^{-1} collected in 2018 by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, using a dedicated data stream that enhances the number of recorded events containing B mesons. The search probes heavy neutrinos with masses in the range 1 <\ltmNm_\mathrm{N}<\lt 3 GeV and decay lengths in the range 102^{-2}<\ltcτc\tau<\lt 104^{4} mm, where τN\tau_\mathrm{N} is the N proper mean lifetime. Signal events are defined by the signature B \toB\ell_\mathrm{B}NX; N \to±π\ell^{\pm} \pi^{\mp}, where the leptons B\ell_\mathrm{B} and \ell can be either a muon or an electron, provided that at least one of them is a muon. The hadronic recoil system, X, is treated inclusively and is not reconstructed. No significant excess of events over the standard model background is observed in any of the ±π\ell^{\pm}\pi^{\mp} invariant mass distributions. Limits at 95% confidence level on the sum of the squares of the mixing amplitudes between heavy and light neutrinos, VN2\vert V_\mathrm{N}\vert^2, and on cτc\tau are obtained in different mixing scenarios for both Majorana and Dirac-like N particles. The most stringent upper limit VN2\vert V_\mathrm{N}\vert^2 <\lt 2.0×\times105^{-5} is obtained at mNm_\mathrm{N} = 1.95 GeV for the Majorana case where N mixes exclusively with muon neutrinos. The limits on VN2\vert V_\mathrm{N}\vert^2 for masses 1 <\lt mNm_\mathrm{N} <\lt 1.7 GeV are the most stringent from a collider experiment to date

    International audienceA search for heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) of Majorana or Dirac type using proton-proton collision data at s\sqrt{s} =13 TeV is presented. The data were collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb1^{-1}. Events with three charged leptons (electrons, muons, and hadronically decaying tau leptons) are selected, corresponding to HNL production in association with a charged lepton and decay of the HNL to two charged leptons and a standard model (SM) neutrino. The search is performed for HNL masses between 10 GeV and 1.5 TeV. No evidence for an HNL signal is observed in data. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are found for the squared coupling strength of the HNL to SM neutrinos, considering exclusive coupling of the HNL to a single SM neutrino generation, for both Majorana and Dirac HNLs. The limits exceed previously achieved experimental constraints for a wide range of HNL masses, and the limits on tau neutrino coupling scenarios with HNL masses above the W boson mass are presented for the first time

    Measurements at s= \sqrt{s}= 13.6 TeV of the opposite-sign W boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions are presented. The data used in this study were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in 2022, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 34.8 fb1 ^{-1} . Events are selected by requiring one electron and one muon of opposite charge. A maximum likelihood fit is performed on signal- and background-enriched data categories defined by the flavour and charge of the leptons, the number of jets, and number of jets originating from b quarks. An inclusive W+^{+}W^{-} production cross section of 125.7 ± \pm 5.6 pb is measured, in agreement with standard model predictions. Cross sections are also reported in a fiducial region close to that of the detector acceptance, both inclusively and differentially, as a function of the jet multiplicity in the event.     International audienceThe J/ψ\psi\toμ+μμ+μ\mu^+\mu^-\mu^+\mu^- decay has been observed with a statistical significance in excess of five standard deviations. The analysis is based on an event sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 33.6 fb1{-1}. Normalizing to the J/ψ\psi\toμ+μ\mu^+\mu^- decay mode leads to a branching fraction [10.12.7+3.3^{+3.3}_{-2.7} (stat) ±\pm 0.4 (syst) ]×\times 107^{-7}, a value that is consistent with the standard model prediction
