The Evolution of CSR and its Reception in Post-Socialist Environments: The Case of Hungary

Social responsibility is one of the most important requirements in business life. Values and mission statements, community contributions, ethics codes and sustainability reports are staples of the web pages of every self-respecting company. The concept has inspired a burgeoning academic discourse featuring some of the most noted social scientists. And yet, despite some important solutions and achievements, a rapidly changing and globalizing world continues to pose new challenges. The purpose of this article is to identify both achievements and challenges in the specific intersections of western corporate culture and post-socialist Eastern Europe. We first review the western, international academic discourse on corporate social responsibility. Second, we engage the theoretical conclusions of CSR research in Hungary. Third, we further narrow our focus on the empirical findings of a case study on international business culture and CSR in the medium-sized town of Dunaújváros, a former “model town” of the Hungarian socialist era. This top-down approach has two major achievements: on the one hand, it allows us to synthesize and identify the dynamic interconnections, achievements and impasses of global CSR in local social environments. On the other hand, it sheds new light on the discrepancies between western and Eastern European CSR theories and practices. Finally, we make recommendations about how to assess corporate social policy and identify good practices in specific post-socialist environments like Hungary

Multikulturalitás és cégek beágyazódása a lokális társadalomba – a dunaújvárosi nagyvállalatok példája

Kutatásukban a szerzők különböző nemzeti kultúrák találkozásakor, multikulturális kontextusban vizsgálják a cégek beágyazódásának dinamikus folyamatát. A lokális társadalom számára természetszerűen fontos a cégek harmonikus beágyazódása, felelős viszony kialakítása a természeti és társadalmi környezettel. A sikeres folyamat többváltozós, különösen abban a helyzetben, ahol egyszerre jelentkeznek interkulturális és interstrukturális hatások, mint a dunaújvárosi nagyvállalatok esetében. A folyamat vizsgálatához a szerzők a Komplex Kultúra- és Kommunikációs Kutatás (4K) projekt kérdőíves felmérésének adatait elemezték, hogy jobban megérthessék a beágyazódás komplex természetét

Hatékony innovációs ökoszisztéma: egyetemi szerepvállalás erősítése az „egyetemi öko”-program tükrében

Az egyetemek új feladatkörébe tartozó tevékenység az innovációs ökoszisztémában való részvétel, a vállalatokkal történő együttműködés fokozása, a vállalkozószellem fejlesztése. Az innovációs tevékenység vonatkozásában az egyetemek kulcsfontosságúak az akadémiai tudás átadásában az ipar és a civil társadalom felé, vezető szerepet töltenek be a fenntartható és a digitális világban, valamint az innovációs ökoszisztémákban, az innovációs ökoszisztéma fenntarthatóságában és az egyre magasabb számban jelentkező társadalmi kihívásoknak és a tudásalapú társadalom főbb feltételeinek történő megfelelésben. A szerzők egy konkrét pályázati konstrukció, a Nemzeti Kutatási, Fejlesztési és Innovációs Hivatal Egyetemi innovációs ökoszisztéma c. felhívásának példáján keresztül azt mutatják be, hogy miként támogatja az innovációs ökoszisztéma kormányzati szereplője az egyetemeket az innovációs kapacitásaik hatékonyságának növelésében. A tanulmány szakirodalmi elemzések alapján vitatja meg az egyes pályázati elemek indokoltságát, hasznosíthatóságát. The new role of universities is to participate in the innovation ecosystem, to enhance cooperation with companies and to develop entrepreneurship. In terms of innovation activity, universities play a key role in the transfer of academic knowledge to industry and civil society, leading the way in a sustainable and digital world and innovation ecosystems, in the sustainability of the innovation ecosystem and in meeting the growing number of societal challenges and the main conditions of the knowledge society. The author uses the example of a specific call for proposals to illustrate how the governmental actor in the innovation ecosystem supports universities in increasing the effectiveness of their innovation capacities. The paper discusses the justification and utility of the different elements of the call on the basis of literature analysis

A XXI. századi tanár és a mobileszközök = Teachers of the 21st Century and the Mobile-tools

Napjainkban az elektronikus tér komplexitása meghatározza a nevelési-oktatási intézmények világát is. Megváltozott az információ áramlása, az mobileszközök azonnali hozzáférést biztosítanak intézményes szintén és otthoni környezetben egyaránt. Számos kihívással kell szembenézniük a pedagógusoknak. A mobileszközök tanórai használata, amelyet a BYOD-módszerként ismerhettünk meg, több szinten nyújthat megoldást az elektronikus tanulási környezet kiterjesztésére. A tanulmányban magyarországi általános iskolák tanárainak véleménye kerül bemutatásra a mobileszközök használatával kapcsolatosan. A kutatásban papíralapú és online kérdőíves módszert alkalmaztunk. Úton a digitalizáció felé - egy felsőoktatási intézmény digitális oktatásának hallgatói tapasztalatai = Towards Digitalisation - Student Experiences in Online Education at a Higher Education Institution

The emergency situation caused by the coronavirus epidemic has transformed all arenas of the education system. The introduction of online education has necessitated a thorough rethinking of how students and faculty are prepared for the transition, as well as consideration of whether the teaching method is effective beyond the lecture hall / lab framework and translated into technological tools.In our research, we examined Hungarian and foreign students of our higher education institution along this topic. One of the questions in our study was whether we see differences in the learning habits of our diverse students and whether the traditional or online form of education better meets the needs of our student community. Most of all our main research task was to explore the experiences of our institution’s first entirely online/digital semester. The study is based on an online questionnaire survey and the analysis of the data through the university database. Our results indicate that higher education still has a role to play in exploring the experiences of online education, solving its problems, and our results identify additional tasks and directions for development

The Situation and Chances of Roma students in Secondary and Tertiary Education in Hungary

Addressing student drop-out or early school leaving has long been a major challenge for education policy makers at both national and international levels. This phenomenon affects all levels of education and has a profound impact on those classes of society that are economically and socio-culturally disadvantaged. This is particularly the case of the largest minority group in Hungary, the Roma, and its roots go back to primary education. Since the 1990s, so from the change of the regime, a positive tendency could have been observed in the completion of primary education, but in secondary school graduation and in obtaining a higher education degree they are still far behind the non-Roma population. In the current study, we identify causes of their learning failures, and we also present a selection of study grants that are available to young Roma students and support them to achieve higher levels of education. We also highlight the difficulties faced by those Roma youth, who have origins in traditional communities but obtain higher educational degrees

Az online oktatás megújítása a Dunaújvárosi Egyetemen : eDUE projekt.

A Dunaújvárosi Egyetemen az online oktatási tartalmak megosztása közel tíz éves múltra tekint vissza. Igazoltan eredményes és sajátságos Moodle kurzusainkat már nagy tapasztalattal készítjük, és tesszük elérhetővé a hallgatóink számára. A távolléti oktatás időszaka alatt az online oktatási módszerünk sikeresen vizsgázott, ám a technológiai lehetőségek szükségszerűvé teszik annak megújítását. A Dunaújvárosi Egyetemen a használati tapasztalatok alapján kidolgoztuk az intézmény online oktatási koncepcióját, melyet eDUE néven vezetünk be az intézményi kommunikációba. Az eDUE projekt központi célkitűzése a teljes megújítás, melynek alapvető eleme a minden igényt kielégítő, professzionális szolgáltatás nyújtása az oktatás résztvevői számára. Az eDUE koncepció a következő témakörökre terjed ki, mint fejlesztésre, átalakításra váró területek: • A Moodle keretrendszer verzióváltása, majd annak a Dunaújvárosi Egyetem számára történő testreszabása. • Az online oktatási tartalmak elérésének, hozzáférési lehetőségeinek módosítása („Kölcsönözhető online tananyagtár” kialakítása). • Kurzusok kategorizálása, hozzáférési jogosultságok definiálása. • Polimédia alapú kurzusok újra tervezése, újabb tanulási objektumok kialakítása, rendszerbe szervezése, flash animációk teljes cseréje. • A webinár, fájlmegosztó rendszerek integrálása egy felhasználói felületre (MS TEAMS, GoogleDrive). • „Final Year” online tananyagcsomag elkészítése, melynek során a külföldi, elsősorban a nem Magyarországon tartózkodó hallgatóknak két teljes szemeszter elvégzéséhez szükséges 14 db online tananyag kifejlesztése. • DUE TV megvalósíthatóságának vizsgálata. • Megújított, az új elvárásokhoz alkalmazkodó felhasználói támogatás kidolgozása. • A rendszer által lehetőségként elérhető Moodle analitikai kimutatások kihasználása az ez irányban tájékozódni, kutatni szándékozó oktató kollégáknak. Mindezen funkciók az aktuális rendszer határait messzemenően kitolják, mind funkcionális, mind megjelenítési szempontból. Cél, hogy a rendszert használók számára egy átlátható, egységes felületen legyen elérhető a teljes online pedagógiai paletta. Az eDUE koncepció több lépésben kerül bevezetésre, melynek során a munkatársak véleménye és észrevételei is beépítésre kerülnek a tesztelés során. Az eDUE koncepció, az eDUE rendszer bevezetésének folyamatában fontos szerepet kap az oktatás, melynek során a rendszer teljes funkcionalitását, a mögöttes módszertani, online pedagógiai ismereteket sajátítják el a Dunaújvárosi Egyetem kollégái. Az előadás során a teljes tervezett folyamatot, valamint a leírtak megvalósulását tervezzük bemutatni, fókuszba állítva a digitális formában megvalósuló oktatás online és informatikai támogatásának fontosságát

Social Responsibility and Community Engagement at a Hungarian Regional University

The article highlights that the concept of social responsibility does not only offer possibilities for brand building, but is also the social obligation of universities for the empowerment of their various external communities. After an overview of the current terminology of corporate- and university social responsibility and university community engagement, it presents forms of practice differentiating between USR and community engagement activities using the example of an Eastern-European university of applied sciences. The mainly qualitative data, collected from the content analysis of institutional documents and semi-structured interviews with key members of staff, demonstrate that although the university is a small regional institution, its social responsibility practice is commendable
