What is Open Access? Are you uncertain as to what itâs all about and what you can you do to enhance access to your research results? This seminar will give you an overview and update of CGIAR and CIATâs open access policy, legal context, issues and considerations related to open access, progress made in managing different types of data and further opportunities and plans to strengthen open access in CIAT. What is in a tomato? Mapping the building blocks of food
When you bite into a tomato, what exactly are you eating? Join us for a tour of tomatoes, as we learn about the building blocks of food, known as biomolecules. Our tour explores the thousands of biomolecules in food, many of which play important roles in nutrition and health. An examination of tomatoes from various farms tells us that not all tomatoes have the same biomolecules. Lots of things affect the amounts and types of biomolecules in tomatoes, including their genetics, where and how they are grown, and even how they are stored and cooked. Our tour ends with a peek into a lab where scientists work on a global project to map all the biomolecules in foods. Welcome to an exciting frontier of science, where discoveries can lead to big improvements in the health of people and the planet
Foodomics: A data-driven approach to revolutionize nutrition and sustainable diets
Globally, we are failing to meet numerous nutritional, health, and environmental targets linked to food. Defining food composition in its full chemical and quantitative diversity is central to data-driven decision making for supporting nutrition and sustainable diets. "Foodomics"-the application of omics-technology to characterize and quantify biomolecules to improve wellbeing-has the potential to comprehensively elucidate what is in food, how this composition varies across the food system, and how diet composition as an ensemble of foods guides outcomes for nutrition, health, and sustainability. Here, we outline: (i) challenges of evaluating food composition; (ii) state-of-the-art omics technology and innovations for the analysis of food; and (iii) application of foodomics as a complementary data-driven approach to revolutionize nutrition and sustainable diets. Featuring efforts of the Periodic Table of Food Initiative, a participatory effort to create a globally shared foodomics platform, we conclude with recommendations to accelerate foodomics in ways that strengthen the capacity of scientists and benefit all people

White Paper: Shifting the goal post - from high impact journals to high impact data
The purpose of this white paper is to provide an overview of the ongoing initiatives at center level to respond to changing public expectations and to the challenge of improving the conduct of science by making research data widely available. We also attempt to provide a framework for implementing open access for research data to maximize CGIARâs impact on development. The remainder of this paper proceeds as follows; firstly a summary of the diversity of research data produced by the centers is given, followed by an overview of the existing infrastructure for data management for each Center. Secondly, some of the limitations and barriers faced by the centers in their process to mainstream research data publishing are addressed. The paper concludes with recommendations for how these limitations and barriers can be tackled
