    Get PDF
This work proposes an enhanced new breed conveyance static compensator (D-STATCOM) topology to address some down to earth issues, for example, power rating, filter size, performance of compensation, and power misfortune. A LCL channel has been utilized at the front end of a voltage source inverter (VSI), which gives better exchanging music end while utilizing much littler estimation of an inductor as contrasted and the conventional L channel. A capacitor is utilized as a part of arrangement with a LCL channel to diminish the dc-interface voltage of the D-STATCOM. This thusly diminishes the power rating of the VSI. With decreased dc-connect voltage, the voltage over the shunt capacitor of the LCL channel will be likewise less. It will diminish the power misfortunes in the damping resistor as contrasted and the customary LCL channel with uninvolved damping. Accordingly, the proposed DSTATCOM topology will have lessened weight, cost, rating, and size with enhanced proficiency and current remuneration capacity contrasted and the customary topology. A deliberate system to outline the segments of the uninvolved channel has been displayed. A multilevel fell H-bridge is executed in the VSI operation of a D-STATCOM topology. The viability of the proposed DSTATCOM topology over customary topologies is approved through MATLAB/SIMULINK softwar

Air pollution has significant influence on the concentration of constituents in the atmosphere leading to effects like global warming and acid rains. To avoid such adverse imbalances in the nature, an air pollution monitoring system is utmost important. This paper attempts to develop an effective solution for pollution monitoring using wireless sensor networks (WSN) on a real time basis namely real time wireless air pollution monitoring system. Commercially available discrete gas sensors for sensing concentration of gases l ike CO 2 , NO 2, CO and O 2 are calibrated using appropriate calibration technologies. These pre - calibrated gas sensors are then integrated with the wireless sensor motes for field deployment at the campus and the Hyderabad city using multi hop data aggregatio n algorithm. A light weight middleware and a web interface to view the live pollution data in the form of numbers and charts from the test beds was developed and made available from anywhere on the internet. Other parameters like temperature and humidity w ere also sensed along with gas concentrations to enable data analysis through data fusion techniques. Experimentation carried out using the developed wireless air pollution monitoring system under different physical conditions show that the system collects reliable source of real time fine - grain pollution data

Forward Neutron Production at the Fermilab Main Injector

We have measured cross sections for forward neutron production from a variety of targets using proton beams from the Fermilab Main Injector. Measurements were performed for proton beam momenta of 58 GeV/c, 84 GeV/c, and 120 GeV/c. The cross section dependence on the atomic weight (A) of the targets was found to vary as A(alpha)A^(alpha) where α\alpha is 0.46±0.060.46\pm0.06 for a beam momentum of 58 GeV/c and 0.54±\pm0.05 for 120 GeV/c. The cross sections show reasonable agreement with FLUKA and DPMJET Monte Carlos. Comparisons have also been made with the LAQGSM Monte Carlo.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review D. This version incorporates small changes suggested by referee and small corrections in the neutron production cross sections predicted by FLUK

Does selection index application for highly heritable traits need revisiting – A comprehensive study with bodyweight and shank length in Vanaraja male line chicken

Selection index (SI) is one of the best methods for estimating the breeding value of an animal combining all sources of information on the animal and its relatives. In the present study, the SI was constructed utilizing the five generations data of Vanaraja male line (PD-1) for body weight (BW-6) and shank length (SL-6) at 6 weeks of age with variance, covariance estimates and heritability of both the traits. The SI was employed on three generations data on simulation basis and the selection parameters were estimated and compared with the mass selection (MS) actually practiced in the population. The least squares mean of SL-6, the primary trait of selection increased from 76.63±0.002 (G-I) to 82.85 ±0.002 mm (G-II), and subsequently reduced to 80.17±001 mm (G-III). The BW-6 also followed similar trend. Generation had significant effect on both SL-6 and BW-6. The heritability estimates for SL-6 and BW-6 were moderate with 0.21 to 0.28 for SL-6 and 0.22 to 0.27 for BW-6. The two traits exhibited high degree of positive association with 0.87 to 0.92 correlation coefficient. The economic value estimated for weight and shank length was 1:8.95. Thus, the selection index constructed was I= 0.2260*BW6, g + 0.7717*SL6, mm. Selection differential was higher in SI method on pooled basis compared to MS in all three generations for the primary trait, SL-6. The response to selection and selection intensity was also higher in SI method compared to MS. A similar trend was observed for BW-6 with respect to selection differential and response to selection. The study concluded that SI was superior to mass selection based on the results in Vanaraja male line chicken

Measurement of Charged Pion Production Yields off the NuMI Target

The fixed-target MIPP experiment, Fermilab E907, was designed to measure the production of hadrons from the collisions of hadrons of momenta ranging from 5 to 120 GeV/c on a variety of nuclei. These data will generally improve the simulation of particle detectors and predictions of particle beam fluxes at accelerators. The spectrometer momentum resolution is between 3 and 4%, and particle identification is performed for particles ranging between 0.3 and 80 GeV/c using dE/dxdE/dx, time-of-flight and Cherenkov radiation measurements. MIPP collected 1.42×1061.42 \times10^6 events of 120 GeV Main Injector protons striking a target used in the NuMI facility at Fermilab. The data have been analyzed and we present here charged pion yields per proton-on-target determined in bins of longitudinal and transverse momentum between 0.5 and 80 GeV/c, with combined statistical and systematic relative uncertainties between 5 and 10%.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figure

Lectins are a class of ubiquitous proteins/glycoproteins that are abundantly found in nature. Lectins have unique carbohydrate binding property and hence have been exploited as drugs against various infectious diseases. We have isolated one such novel lectin from the fruit pulp of Aegle marmelos. The isolated lectin was partially characterised and its effect against Shigella dysenteriae infection was evaluated. The isolated lectin was found to be a dimeric protein with N-acetylgalactosamine, mannose and sialic acid binding specificity. The effect of Aegle marmelos fruit lectin on the adherence of Shigella dysenteriae to human colonic epithelial cells (HT29 cells) was evaluated by Enzyme Linked Immune Sorbent Assay and invasion was analysed. The protective nature of the Aegle marmelos fruit lectin was assessed by analyzing apoptosis through dual staining method. Aegle marmelos fruit lectin significantly inhibited hemagglutination activity of Shigella and its minimum inhibitory concentration is 0.625 µg/well. Further, at this concentration lectin inhibited Shigella dysenteriae adherence and invasion of HT29 cells and protects the HT29 cells from Shigella dysenteriae induced apoptosis. To conclude, isolated lectin dimeric protein with N-acetylgalactosamine, Mannose and sialic acid binding specificity and inhibits adherence and invasion of Shigellae to HT29 cells thus, protects the host
