Gender Differences in Attachment Anxiety and Avoidance and Their Association with Psychotherapy Use—Examining Students from a German University
Attachment anxiety and avoidance might explain gender differences in psychotherapy use, which is generally lower in men. In addition, university students are a particularly vulnerable group for mental health problems, and understanding psychotherapy use, especially among mentally distressed male students, is pivotal. A total of 4894 students completed an online survey answering questions regarding psychotherapy use and completing the PHQ-D identifying psychological syndromes. In addition, the ECR-RD12 was used to measure attachment anxiety and avoidance. Significant gender differences for attachment anxiety and avoidance emerged, showing higher attachment anxiety in female students and higher attachment avoidance in male students. Male students used psychotherapy significantly less than female students. Male students’ attachment anxiety and avoidance predicted psychotherapy use, while for female students, only attachment anxiety emerged as a significant predictor. Attachment anxiety is positively associated with psychotherapy use, and lower attachment anxiety in men may explain lower psychotherapy use in male students

Comeback of epitaxial graphene for electronics: large-area growth of bilayer-free graphene on SiC
We present a new fabrication method for epitaxial graphene on SiC which
enables the growth of ultra-smooth defect- and bilayer-free graphene sheets
with an unprecedented reproducibility, a necessary prerequisite for wafer-scale
fabrication of high quality graphene-based electronic devices. The inherent but
unfavorable formation of high SiC surface terrace steps during high temperature
sublimation growth is suppressed by rapid formation of the graphene buffer
layer which stabilizes the SiC surface. The enhanced nucleation is enforced by
decomposition of polymer adsorbates which act as a carbon source. With most of
the steps well below 0.75 nm pure monolayer graphene without bilayer inclusions
is formed with lateral dimensions only limited by the size of the substrate.
This makes the polymer assisted sublimation growth technique the most promising
method for commercial wafer scale epitaxial graphene fabrication. The
extraordinary electronic quality is evidenced by quantum resistance metrology
at 4.2 K with until now unreached precision and high electron mobilities on mm

Conversion of self-assembled monolayers into nanocrystalline graphene: Structure and electric transport
Graphene-based materials have been suggested for applications ranging from
nanoelectronics to nanobiotechnology. However, the realization of
graphene-based technologies will require large quantities of free-standing
two-dimensional (2D) carbon materials with tuneable physical and chemical
properties. Bottom-up approaches via molecular self-assembly have great
potential to fulfil this demand. Here, we report on the fabrication and
characterization of graphene made by electron-radiation induced cross-linking
of aromatic self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and their subsequent annealing. In
this process, the SAM is converted into a nanocrystalline graphene sheet with
well defined thickness and arbitrary dimensions. Electric transport data
demonstrate that this transformation is accompanied by an insulator to metal
transition that can be utilized to control electrical properties such as
conductivity, electron mobility and ambipolar electric field effect of the
fabricated graphene sheets. The suggested route opens broad prospects towards
the engineering of free-standing 2D carbon materials with tuneable properties
on various solid substrates and on holey substrates as suspended membranes.Comment: 30 pages, 5 figure

Background: Attachment anxiety and avoidance have been insufficiently studied in relation to psychotherapy use. Attachment theory, specifically attachment anxiety and avoidance, might explain gender differences in psychotherapy use, which is generally lower in those identifying as male. In addition, university students are a particularly vulnerable group for mental health problems, and understanding psychotherapy use, especially among mentally distressed male students, is pivotal.
Methods: A total of 44,299 students from a German university were invited to participate in an online survey on the topic of "studying with mental stress", and 4,894 completed the survey (adjusted response rate of 11.04%). The students answered questions regarding psychotherapy use, and they completed the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-D) identifying syndromes of depression, anxiety, alcohol use, somatoform and eating disorders. In addition, the Experiences in Close Relationships – Revised (ECR-RD12) questionnaire, was used to measure attachment anxiety and avoidance.
Results: Significant gender differences for attachment anxiety and avoidance emerged showing higher attachment anxiety in female students and higher attachment avoidance in male students. In addition, male students used psychotherapy significantly less than female students, and they also reported less intention to use psychotherapy in the near future. Male students did not differ from female students with regard to mental distress. When exploring regressions to predict psychotherapy use, male students’ attachment anxiety and avoidance predicted use. For female students, only attachment anxiety emerged as a significant predictor. However, when correcting for multiple testing, only attachment anxiety remained a significant predictor of psychotherapy use for male and female students.
Conclusion: Attachment anxiety is positively associated with psychotherapy use and lower attachment anxiety in men may partially explain lower psychotherapy use in male university students. Lower attachment anxiety in male students emerges as a relevant factor explaining lower psychotherapy use in males, which is not balanced by higher attachment avoidance in males
