A series of glycoprotein and glycolipids on the red blood cell surface constitute blood group antigens. These are A, B, AB and O in ABO blood group system and Rh in rhesus blood group system. These antigens are genetically controlled. Certain diseases have been shown to be associated with certain blood groups. In the present study an attempt is made to study the distribution of ABO and Rh. (D) blood group systems among the Brahmin caste population of Uttar Pradesh State. A total of 200 unrelated Brahmin individuals from Uttar Pradesh were studied for the phenotype and allele frequency distribution of ABO and Rh (D) blood groups. The order of occurrence of ABO phenotypes is B>O>A>AB. The corresponding allele frequencies of O, A, and B alleles are found to be 0.5790, 0.1510 and 0.2697 respectively. The allele frequency of D (0.735) is more than d (0.265). The present study was compared with the other studies reported to understand the affinity between them

Background: Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a key enzyme involved in folate/homocysteine metabolism. A polymorphism C677T has been reported to be linked with risk of several diseases/ disorders like birth defects, metabolic and psychiatric disorders and different cancers. The association between esophageal cancer and MTHFR gene C677T polymorphism has been investigated in several case-control studies, which rendered contradictory results.Aim: To shed light on association between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and risk of esophageal cancer, a meta-analysis of published case control association studies was conducted. Methods: Four electronic databases: PubMed, Google Scholars, Elsevier and Springer Link were searched up to August 2016. All statistical analyses were performed using MetaAnalyst and Mix (version 1.7). Odds ratios (ORs) with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. Total twenty-nine studies with 6520 cases and 9192 controls were included in the present meta-analysis.Results: The results of meta-analysis suggested that there were significant association between C677T polymorphism and esophageal cancer risk using overall comparisons in five genetic models (T vs. C: OR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.1–1.27, p = <0.0001; TT + CT vs. CC: OR = 1.37, 95% CI = 1.14–1.62, p = 0.0004; TT vs. CC: OR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.1–1.84, p = 0.005; CT vs. CC OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.15–1.58, p = 0.0002; TT vs. CT + CC: OR = 1.19, 95% CI = 0.99–1.42, p = 0.05). Publication bias was absent. Subgroup analysis based on ethnicity and source of controls were also performed. Conclusion: In conclusion, results of present meta-analysis showed significant association between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and esophageal cancer. Keywords: Esophagial cancer, MTHFR, C677T, Meta-analysis, Homosyctein

Some bulk viscous general solutions are found for domain walls in Lyra geometry in the plane symmetric inhomogeneous spacetime. Expressions for the energy density and pressure of domain walls are derived in both cases of uniform and time varying displacement field β. The viscosity coefficient of bulk viscous fluid is assumed to be a power function of mass density. Some physical consequences of the models are also given. Finally, the geodesic equations and acceleration of the test particle are discussed. Opisujemo neke izvode modela. A deterministic inventory model for non-instantaneous deteriorating items with ramp-type demand rate and shortages under permissible delay in payments

In this paper, we propose an appropriate inventory model for a non-instantaneous deteriorating items having Ramp-type demand rate with time dependent deterioration rate. In this model, the shortages are allowed and, which is partially backlogged. The backlogging rate is variable and time dependent on the waiting time for the next replenishment. One of the best tools for delaying cash outflow of any cash-strapped or new retail business is the trade credit or delay in payments available from suppliers. This model serves in minimizing the total inventory cost by finding an optimal replenishment policy. Some useful lemmas have been delineated to illustrate the optimal solution. Several numerical examples are given to test and verify the theoretical results. The sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to major parameters is developed. Finally, the managerial implications and conclusion are presented

Study - Minimal erythema response (MED) to solar simulated irradiation in normal Indian skin

BACKGROUND: Phototesting is an essential tool in the investigation of photodermatoses. AIMS: The main aim was to study the cutaneous response to UVR in terms of minimal erythema dose (MED) to both UVA and UVB in normal Indian subjects with a solar simulator and to study the relationship of skin type to MED. METHODS: One hundred healthy volunteers not on any medication and without any history of photodermatoses were phototested using a solar simulator with whole spectrum irradiation (UVA, UVB and visible light) and only visible and UVA radiation. The tested areas were marked with gentian violet and readings were taken after 24 hrs. RESULTS: Of the 100 volunteers, 48% were males and 52% were females, with a mean age of 36.6 \ub1 11.6 yrs. The most common skin type among Indians was type 5 (46%) followed by type 4 (41%). The mean MED for UVB was 61.5 \ub1 17.25J/cm2. The MED for UVA could not be determined as none of the patients showed any erythema after irradiation for 45 minutes. CONCLUSIONS: As the MED is found to be low in idiopathic acquired photodermatoses, the MED in the normal population could serve as a baseline data in the investigation
