The following lengths of periods without precipitation were identified: 11-15, 16-20 and over 20 days. The number of periods without precipitation during the growing season differed substantially in central-eastern Poland from 1971 to 2005. On average, from 1.9 to 3.2 periods without precipitation in the growing season occurred in the study period in Ostrołęka and Siedlce, respectively. The most frequent non-rainfall periods in the study area were 11-15 days long and the least frequent 16-20 days long. In general, periods without precipitation, regardless of their duration, occurred most frequently in April and least frequently in July. Central part of the study area was most likely to be affected by such periods whereas in the north-eastern part periods which were longer than 20 days were least common. There was no significant tendency for change in the number of periods without precipitation during the growing season. However, some cyclic nature of their occurrence in consecutive years was noted
Hydrotermiczna charakterystyka okresu wegetacyjnego w środkowowschodniej Polsce w latach 1971–2005
Jedną z miar wykorzystywanych do oceny kształtowania się warunków
hydrotermicznych danego obszaru jest współczynnik Sielianinowa. W pracy wykorzystano dane
z 9 stacji IMGW z rejonu środkowowschodniej Polski, zarejestrowane w latach 1971–2005.
Na podstawie współczynnika Sielianinowa określono częstość występowania w okresie
wegetacyjnym miesięcy w klasach wilgotności wg kryterium Skowery i Puły (2004). Przedstawiono
rozkład przestrzenny wartości współczynnika Sielianinowa we wszystkich miesiącach okresu
Najmniejsze
średnie wartości współczynnika Sielianinowa we wszystkich miesiącach okresu wegetacyjnego
notowano w zachodniej i południowo-zachodniej części badanego obszaru.
W maju,
czerwcu i sierpniu okresy suche występowały dwa razy częściej niż wilgotne. Istotne
zmniejszanie się wartości współczynnika Sielianinowa w okresie wegetacyjnym analizowanego
wielolecia świadczy o zwiększaniu się intensywności posuch. One of the measures used to evaluate the hydrothermal conditions development
of a particular area is called Sielianinow’s coefficient. Data used in this paper come from nine
IMGW stations from central-eastern region of Poland, and they were registered between the
years 1971–2005. On the basis of Sielianinow’s coefficient it was determined within the
vegetation season the frequency of occurrence of months in humidity classes according to
Skowera and Puła criterion (2004). The paper also describes spatial distribution of Sielianinow’s
coefficient values in all of the vegetation season months in the area examined. Long-term
changes of Sielianinow’s coefficient were evaluated using regression coefficient of the linear
trend and coefficient of variation. The lowest average values of Sielianinow’s coefficient in all of the months of vegetation season have been noted in western and south-western parts of the
area examined. Whereas the north-eastern part has been characterized by the most favorable
hydrothermal conditions. In the area examined, April was generally extremely humid or optimal
month. While in May, June and August the dry months have occurred two times more often than
the humid months. The significant decreasing of Sielianinow’s coefficient values during the
vegetation season in the years analyzed proves the increase of intensity of drought
Tendencies of air temperature changes of vegetation period in central-eastern Poland (in years 1971-2005)
W większości analizowanych stacji w kwietniu, lipcu i sierpniu zanotowano dodatnie istotne statystycznie zmiany temperatury powietrza. The beginning and ending dates as well as the number of days of vegetation period were determined. Average monthly air temperature values of particular months during the vegeta-tion period were analysed. The direction and significance of tendency of changes were determined on the basis of linear trend equations. Thermal vegetation period in central-eastern Poland began around March 28th and lasted till October 30th. South-western part of the area examined was charac-terised by the highest average air temperature of the vegetation period (IV-X), while north-eastern part – by the lowest. In most of the stations analysed, statistically significant changes of air tempera-ture were noted in April, July and August. The highest increase of this parameter (on average of 0.7oC for 10 years) was noted in April. In stations located in the eastern part of the region examined a significant increase of temperature (on average of 0.4oC for 10 years) occurred also in October
Tendencje zmian opadów atmosferycznych okresu wegetacyjnego w środkowowschodniej polsce (1971-2005)
The work presents data from nine Institute of Meteorology and Water
Management (IMGW) stations collected from 1971 to 2005 in central-east Poland. The
relative precipitation index (RPI) was applied to determine the frequency of individual
drought classes during the growth period. Moreover, spatial distribution of precipitation
amounts in the study area was presented. Also, the direction and significance of tendency
for changes in precipitation were presented. In the study years, monthly precipitation
amounts varied greatly during the growth period in central-east Poland. The lowest
precipitation sums (335 mm) during the growth period (April-September) were recorded
in the south-western part of the study area, whereas the highest precipitation sums (367
mm) were found in the north-eastern part of the area. The highest long-term (1971-2005)
average precipitation amounts were recorded in July (74 mm) and June (72 mm), and the
lowest ones in April (38 mm). Analysis of the frequency of individual drought classes
according to the relative precipitation index showed that typical months were three and
six times as frequent as extremely dry and wet months, respectively. Severe droughts
occurred the most frequently in June and April; very dry and very wet spells were noted
in April, and extremely wet periods in July. Analysis of the slopes of the regression line
representing the rate of change in precipitation sums during the study period showed that
the values of the slopes were close to zero and statistically insignificant. Statistically
significant changes were recorded only in June in Białowieża, where the monthly
precipitation amount decreased by 17.4 mm/10 years, and in August in Legionowo and
Pułtusk, where the respective declines amounted to 13.5/10 years and 9.9 mm/10 years.W pracy wykorzystano dane dotyczące sum opadów atmosferycznych,
pochodzące z dziewięciu stacji IMGW z rejonu środkowowschodniej Polski, zarejestrowane
w latach 1971-2005. Na podstawie wskaźnika względnego opadu RPI określono
częstość występowania poszczególnych klas suszy w okresie wegetacyjnym. Przedstawiono
obszaru (335 mm), a najwyższe w północno-wschodniej (367 mm). Najwyższymi
średnimi wieloletnimi (1971-2005) sumami opadów charakteryzowały się lipiec (74 mm)
i czerwiec (72 mm), a najniższymi kwiecień (38 mm). Na podstawie analizy częstości
występowania poszczególnych klas suszy według wskaźnika względnego opadu
stwierdzono, że miesiące normalne występowały trzykrotnie częściej niż ekstremalnie
suche i sześciokrotnie częściej niż skrajnie wilgotne. Ekstremalne susze najczęściej
notowano w sierpniu i czerwcu, miesiące bardzo suche w kwietniu, bardzo wilgotne
w kwietniu i wrześniu, a skrajnie wilgotne w lipcu.
w Legionowie o 13,5 mm/10 lat i w Pułtusku o 9,9 mm/10 lat
Climatic water balance for the vegetation season (according to Iwanow’s equation) in central-eastern Poland
Uwzględnia on zarówno opady atmosferyczne, jak i ewapotranspirację. W pracy wykorzystano dane z ośmiu stacji IMGW z rejonu środkowowschodniej Polski, zarejestrowane w latach 1971–2005. Obliczono miesięczne wartości klimatycznego bilansu wodnego w okresach wegetacyjnych (IV–IX) badanego wielolecia. Stwierdzono, że w środkowowschodniej Polsce w miesiącach okresu wegetacyjnego dwa razy częściej występują ujemne klimatyczne bilanse wodne niż dodatnie. Ujemne wartości tego wskaźnika najczęściej notowano w miesiącach wiosennych, a dodatnie we wrześniu. Najmniejsze niedobory wodne notowano w północnowschodniej części badanego obszaru, a największe w części zachodniej. Climatic changes in Poland are more and more often the reason of crop losses due to the drought occurrence. One of the measures used to evaluate the moisture conditions in particular area is climatic water balance. It takes into account both precipitation and evapotranspiration. Data used in this paper come from eight IMGW stations in central-eastern region of Poland from the years 1971–2005. Monthly values of climatic water balance during vegetation season (April–September) were calculated for the examined years. Negative climatic water balances were found to occur two times more than positive balances in central-eastern Poland during vegetation seasons. Negative values were most often observed in spring months, while positive – in September. The smallest water deficiency was noted in north-eastern part of the examined area while the largest in western part. The analysis showed that the values of climatic water balance were quite variable. These values decreased significantly by about 5 mm per year on average
Thermal periods in the central-eastern Poland (1971-2005)
Wyznaczono daty początku i końca oraz czas trwania okresów
termicznych: gospodarczego, wegetacyjnego i aktywnego wzrostu roślin. Analizę oparto na danych
dotyczących średnich dobowych wartości temperatury powietrza pochodzących z dziewięciu stacji
IMGW w środkowowschodniej Polsce w latach 1971-2005. Stwierdzono, że na badanym obszarze
występuje zróżnicowanie przestrzenne czasu trwania, a także dat początku i końca poszczególnych
okresów termicznych. Okres gospodarczy w środkowowschodniej Polsce rozpoczynał się średnio 13
marca i trwał do 12 listopada. Najkrócej sezon ten utrzymywał się we wschodniej części analizowanego
rejonu, a najdłużej w części zachodniej i południowej. Termiczny okres wegetacyjny
charakteryzował się tendencją do wcześniejszego rozpoczynania się i późniejszego zakończenia.
Przeciętna długość okresu wegetacyjnego w środkowowschodniej Polsce wynosiła od 210 do 222
dni. W północnej części badanego obszaru okres ten trwał najkrócej, a najdłużej w części zachodniej
i południowej. Analiza współczynników kierunkowych trendu liniowego czasu trwania aktywnego
w północno-wschodniej części badanego rejonu, a najdłużej w części zachodniej i południowej. This paper presents the classification of thermal periods based on the dates of passing
through the conventional thermal thresholds. The dates of the beginning and the ending were
determined along with the number of days of the following thermal periods: agricultural, vegetation
and active plant growth period. The analysis was based on data concerning mean daily air temperature
values coming from nine IMGW stations located in the region of central-eastern Poland, covering
the period of 1971-2005. It was noticed that in the examined area there occurs spatial differentiation
of the number of days as well as of the beginning and ending dates of particular thermal
periods. Agricultural period in central-eastern Poland began on average on March 13th and lasted till
November 12th. This season was the shortest in the eastern part of the area examined, while it was
the longest in the western and southern part. Thermal vegetation period was characterised by a
tendency to begin earlier and end later. The average duration of vegetation period in central-eastern Poland lasted form 210 to 222 days. In northern part of the area examined this period was the shortest,
while it was the longest in the western and southern part. The analysis of directional coefficients
of the linear trend in duration of the active plant growth period revealed that dates of its beginning
during the examined years did not show any significant variation. Whereas, its ending dates varied
significantly at all the stations. This season was the shortest in the north-eastern part of the area
examined, while it was the longest in the western and southern part
Multi-trait Analysis of Agroclimate Variations During the Growing Season in East-Central Poland (1971-2005)
The work is based on meteorological data recorded by nine stations of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management located in east-central Poland from 1971 to 2005. The region encompasses the North Podlasian Lowland and the South Podlasian Lowland. Average values of selected agroclimate indicators for the growing season were determined. Moreover, principal component analysis was conducted to indicate elements that exerted the greatest influence on the agroclimate.
Also, cluster analysis was carried out to select stations with similar agroclimate. Ward method was used for clustering and the Euclidean distance was applied. Principal component analysis revealed that the agroclimate of east-central Poland was predominantly affected by climatic water balance, number of days of active plant growth, length of the farming period, and the average
air temperature during the growing season (Apr-Sept). Based on the analysis, the region of east-central Poland was divided into two groups (areas) with different agroclimatic conditions. The first area comprized the following stations: Szepietowo and Białowieża located in the North Podlasian Lowland and Biała Podlaska situated in the northern part of the South Podlasian Lowland. This area was characterized by shorter farming periods and a lower average air temperature during the growing season. The other group included the remaining stations located in the western part of both the Lowlands which was warmer and where greater water deficits were recorded
Valuation of drinking water quality in Siedlce district
Valuation of water quality
needs estimating the value of all the physical,
chemical and biological indicators. In
the study it was shown the valuation of drinking
water quality in Siedlce district which
was made based on data coming from the
period 2004–2006. The results of water examine
come from the District Sanitary Epidemiological
Station in Siedlce. The examined
water was taken from 31 water-supplies in Siedlce district. In 2004 water coming from
14 water-supplies met its Polish standards.
Whereas the number, frequency and amount
of excess of acceptable standards rose
in 2005 and 2006. In analysed period among
physical parameters hue and turbidity were
exceeded predominatingly whereas among
chemical ones – manganese and iron. Biological
indicators exceeding the acceptable
standard most often are: total number of
bacteria in 37°C (23 times) and number of
bacteria coli group (17 times). Nitrites, taste,
smell, conductivity and reaction are the parameters
which did not exceed valid standards
in any examined water-supply. The water-
-supplies with best water quality in which the
indicators did not exceed the standards are
Stok Lacki and Stasin
Applying multidimensional analyses to assess drinking water quality
W pracy przedstawiono możliwość zastosowania metod wielowymiarowych do analizy jakości wody pitnej. Na podstawie wyników trzyletnich badań (2009 - 2011) przeanalizowano parametry fizykochemiczne wody pitnej z 15 wodociągów powiatu łosickiego. Wszystkie wodociągi ujmowały wodę podziemną dobrej jakości, gdyż w badanym okresie zaobserwowano tylko 7 przekroczeń zawartości żelaza, 2 przekroczenia poziomu barwy i 1 przekroczenie utlenialności. Grupę IV tworzyły wodociągi, które doprowadzały wodę o relatywnie dużej mętności i dużej zawartości żelaza, ale o bardzo niskim pH.In the paper, there were presented the possibilities of applying multidimensional methods to analyse
the quality of drinking water. Based on the three year research results (2009 - 2011), analyzed were the physical and chemical parameters of drinking water from 15 water supply systems in the district (in Polish: powiat) of Łosice. Groundwater supplied by all the systems was of good quality as, during the period studied, only 7 cases were reported where the content of iron was exceeded, 2 cases where the colour level was exceeded, and 1 case with the exceeded level of KMnO4 oxidation. The principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the parameters associated with the first four components impacted the quality of water analyzed most of all. The cluster analysis made it possible to distinguish 4 groups of water supply systems, which differed as regards the quality of water supplied. Group I comprised the systems with hard water and, at the same time, with low contents of iron and manganese. The water systems in group II supplied water with a low content of nitrates. The water in the systems of group III contained relatively high amounts of iron and manganese, but, at the same time, its hardness was the lowest and it was characterized by the lowest value of the electrical conductivity index. Group IV comprised the water supply systems that provided water with a relatively high turbidity level and a high content of iron; however, its pH value was very low
