Detecting abnormal events in video using Narrowed Normality Clusters

We formulate the abnormal event detection problem as an outlier detection task and we propose a two-stage algorithm based on k-means clustering and one-class Support Vector Machines (SVM) to eliminate outliers. In the feature extraction stage, we propose to augment spatio-temporal cubes with deep appearance features extracted from the last convolutional layer of a pre-trained neural network. After extracting motion and appearance features from the training video containing only normal events, we apply k-means clustering to find clusters representing different types of normal motion and appearance features. In the first stage, we consider that clusters with fewer samples (with respect to a given threshold) contain mostly outliers, and we eliminate these clusters altogether. In the second stage, we shrink the borders of the remaining clusters by training a one-class SVM model on each cluster. To detected abnormal events in the test video, we analyze each test sample and consider its maximum normality score provided by the trained one-class SVM models, based on the intuition that a test sample can belong to only one cluster of normality. If the test sample does not fit well in any narrowed normality cluster, then it is labeled as abnormal. We compare our method with several state-of-the-art methods on three benchmark data sets. The empirical results indicate that our abnormal event detection framework can achieve better results in most cases, while processing the test video in real-time at 24 frames per second on a single CPU.Comment: Accepted at WACV 2019. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1705.0818

JAK-STAT core cancer pathway : An integrative cancer interactome analysis

Through a comprehensive review and in silico analysis of reported data on STAT-linked diseases, we analysed the communication pathways and interactome of the seven STATs in major cancer categories and proposed rational targeting approaches for therapeutic intervention to disrupt critical pathways and addictions to hyperactive JAK/STAT in neoplastic states. Although all STATs follow a similar molecular activation pathway, STAT1, STAT2, STAT4 and STAT6 exert specific biological profiles associated with a more restricted pattern of activation by cytokines. STAT3 and STAT5A as well as STAT5B have pleiotropic roles in the body and can act as critical oncogenes that promote many processes involved in cancer development. STAT1, STAT3 and STAT5 also possess tumour suppressive action in certain mutational and cancer type context. Here, we demonstrated member-specific STAT activity in major cancer types. Through systems biology approaches, we found surprising roles for EGFR family members, sex steroid hormone receptor ESR1 interplay with oncogenic STAT function and proposed new drug targeting approaches of oncogenic STAT pathway addiction.Peer reviewe

Increased performance of hydraulic drive components, as well as easier maintenance and diagnostics, can be achieved through the use of intelligent devices. Introducing sensors, electronic blocks and control algorithms into the equipment will enable easier repairs in the case of failure, or can increase the efficiency of the installation by providing selected operating parameters to the machine controller. In the case of a malfunction, the smart device can provide error codes. Smart devices can receive and send via various communication protocols (RS232, CAN, Fieldbus, Modbus) commands and feedback signals of monitored parameters. This paper presents the construction of such a monitoring and diagnostics module, the test application and the obtained charts.Zwiększenie wydajności podzespołów hydraulicznych instalacji napędowych, jak również łatwiejsza konserwacja i diagnostyka mogą zostać osiągnięte poprzez zastosowanie inteligentnych urządzeń. Wprowadzenie czujników, bloków elektronicznych i algorytmów sterowania do urządzeń, umożliwi łatwiejsze naprawy w przypadku awarii lub może przyczynić się do zwiększenia wydajności instalacji dzięki dostarczeniu do sterownika maszyny wybranych parametrów roboczych. W przypadku nieprawidłowego działania, urządzenie inteligentne może dostarczyć kody błędów. Inteligentne urządzenia mogą odbierać i wysyłać przez różne protokoły komunikacyjne (RS232, CAN, Fieldbus, Modbus) polecenia i sygnały zwrotne monitorowanych parametrów. The Importance of Diet in Predicting the Remission of Urticaria—Determination of Allergen-Specific IgE

    No full text
Background and Objectives: Different types of food introduced gradually in the diet will expose children to different food allergens, increasing the chance of developing allergic diseases. The aim of our study was to determine if allergen-specific IgE values can influence, depending on the diet, the prediction of remission of urticaria in children. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted in 132 patients diagnosed over two years with urticaria, admitted to “Sf. Maria” Clinical Pediatric Hospital Iaşi. Total IgE assay was performed by ELISA, and determination of specific serum IgE by the CLA System Quanti Scan method (Innogenetics, Heiden, Germany). Data were gathered and statistical analysis was performed using statistical software SPSS, using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The determination of specific IgE to food allergens was performed on a total of 132 cases. The values of specific IgE were positive for one or more food allergens in 84 patients (63.64%). The most common allergens involved were: cow’s milk in 33.3% cases, egg white in 22.6% cases, and hazelnuts in 11.9% cases. The specific IgE values for the different types of food included in our study had a predictive value for disease remission. Conclusions: The determination of specific IgE confirms the presence of a particular food allergen and may have predictive value for the future development of an allergic manifestation

Secondary prevention- an essential component of the comprehensive rehabilitation of patients with heart failure

Heart failure is currently a real public health problem due to the extremely high morbidity and mortality of this disease. In this context, cardiovascular prevention measures should be implemented as early as possible. In addition to classic prevention measures, a number of extremely important specific recommendations should be considered: informing patients about their underlying disease, identifying the cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular factors that have led to cardiac decompensation, reducing daily salt consumption, monitoring body weight, forbidding smoking and recreational substances, conducting a regular exercise program under supervision, and increasing adherence to treatment
