For a long period of time the analysis of company's performance has been approached preponderant or only for financial point of view, but in the last half of century, because of an environment characterized by intensified competition, there have been elaborated and developed a number of measurement tools, the goal of which is to reflect all the factors involved in a company's performance. The practic goal of performance measurement, the standard it refers to and the measuring tools are tightly correlated with the objectives of each of the company's stakeholders. In order to obtain a good quantification of company's performance is necessary to use a system of indicators that may provide reliable information for evaluating the degree to which firm's objectives are reached. In this system, financial indicators remain, an essential tool of management, regardless the changes which affect the company's environment.performance measurement, financial indicators, company's performance, non-financial indicators, management, objectives

Specific Features in Accessing European Funding

    Get PDF
European Funds are the European Union financial instruments in order to assist Member States in reducing the existing disparities between regions and between countries, and for harmonization with the economic, social and cultural European standards. This paper intends to present some general characteristics applicable to the most important financing programs, and also to outline certain features of the main financing lines, referring to investment projects development and their implementation, based on the Applicant Guides analysis. The paper treats institutional, legal, financial, technical, social and environmental aspects and outlines proposals and recommendations to achieve a better EU funds absorption and also a higher success rate of initiated projects. In knowledge-based economy circumstances, training consultancy specialists, that represent the intellectual capital in this area, will ensure the professional management of the developing process, submission and ongoing competitive projects, and will help enhance the funds absorption at national level. Thus, the European support for investments in ensuring sustainable growth will help overcoming the difficulties encountered by our country, and will sustain the Romanian economy recovery.eligible costs, European funds, investment, knowledge economy, sustainable development.

Current Approaches Regarding the Knowledge Management Impact on SMEs Performance

    Get PDF
Managing knowledge is a critical capability for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to master because it helps them leverage their most critical resource. Organizational knowledge is the most salient resource at the disposal of SMEs in terms of availability, access, and depth. Successful SMEs are those who can leverage their knowledge in an effective and efficient manner, so as to make up for deficiencies in traditional resources, like land, labor, and capital. The purpose of this article is to identify the knowledge management impact on SMEs performance and to compare knowledge management in SMEs with knowledge management in large companies. The research discovered that SMEs do not manage knowledge the same way as larger organizations.knowledge management, performance, SMEs.

In knowledge-based economy, intangible assets such as knowledge and intellectual capital are becoming the new core competencies. Intellectual capital is an asset that increases its value as it is used; therefore investments in intellectual capital and knowledge represent power and profitability. This paper proposes to highlight the synergy between investments in intellectual capital, a valuable and strategic asset, and achieving and sustaining competitive advantage and organizational performance in knowledge-based society. Intellectual capital becomes the essential part of the system of contemporary economic and sustainable development, the company is seen as a means to create, integrate, store and apply knowledge. Every organization holds a specific intellectual capital characterized by a potential of knowledge and, respectively by a capacity to use it in a creative manner. Expansion of intellectual capital can be achieved if innovation and creativity are present in an organization, but also through the dissemination of innovation and the convergence of top technologies. Intellectual capital, an important source of an organization’s economic, sustainable development is crucial to manage the intellectual resources and capabilities, needs to be taken seriously into account in formulating business strategy. Holding superior intellectual resources, organizations must exploit and develop resources in a competitive manner, meaning that the intellectual capital value exist with the knowledge of individuals, but can be institutionalized as part of systems and organization structure. Pharmaceutical companies should invest in developing creative skills for R&D professionals, and strengthening of management skills to demonstrate that intellectual capital achieves the strategic objectives for health therapiesintellectual capital, investment, knowledge, knowledge management, pharmaceutical industry.

Hospetitiveness – the Empirical Model of Competitiveness in Romanian Hospitality Industry

    Get PDF
Our interest is focused on an important sector of the national economy: the hospitality industry. The paper is the result of a careful analysis of the literature and of a field research. According to the answers of hotels' managers, competitiveness is based mainly on service quality and cost control. The analyses of questionnaires and dedicated literature lead us to the design of a competitiveness model for hospitality industry, called "Hospetitiveness – The empirical model of competitiveness in the Romanian hospitality industry". The model has three levels: the first level (the base) is represented by decisive factors of competitiveness: human resources, innovation, services and costs, which influence all hotels' operations. The second level consists in the inclusion of competitiveness factors’ attributes in the organization’s processes and operations, in order to reach the objectives and obtain competitive advantage. This is the level where all the competitiveness factors are transposed in objective measures, in order to make them easily understood by the employees. The third level illustrates the dimensions of competitiveness as results of the impact of the decisive factors on the organization’s internal processes and operations. These dimensions are: customer satisfaction, market position and internal and external social responsibility. The model is dynamic, being the starting point for specific models in hotel management (e.g. business or seaside hotels’ management), and also the base for a best practices guide that translates competitiveness factors into key competitive advantage.competitiveness, hospitality industry, hotel management, competitive advantage

New Analytical Stress Formulae for Arbitrary Time Dependent Thermal Loads in Pipes

    Get PDF
Analytical solutions with several new features have been developed for temperature and elastic thermal stress distributions for a hollow circular cylinder under sinusoidal thermal transient loading at the inner surface. The approach uses a finite Hankel transform in a general form for any transient thermal loading for a hollow cylinder. Using the properties of Bessel functions, an analytical solution for temperature distribution through wall thickness was derived for a special case of sinusoidal transient thermal loading on inner pipe surface. The solutions for associated thermal stress components were developed by means of the displacement technique. To the authors’ knowledge, this is first time a complete set of such analytical expressions has been openly published.JRC.F.4-Nuclear design safet

Underactive bladder - an underestimated entity

    Get PDF
Introduction. The concept of underactive bladder is relatively new. Currently there is no generally accepted definition of this pathology. Diagnosis depends on urodynamic findings, and symptoms are usually rare and intricated with the symptoms of other urinary pathology. Matherials and methods. This review examines the current literature on underactive bladder regarding pathology, definition, diagnosis, current guidelines, and any further potential medical developments. Conclusions. Underactive bladder is a poorly understood pathologic condition. Only since 2002 has there been any consensus regarding the definition. The diagnosis relies only on urodynamics; clinical diagnosis is a challenge even for a consultant; and treatment does not seem to alleviate much of the suffering. This disease remains underrecognized and undertreated. More research is needed to identify less invasive diagnosis tools and treatment for this pathology
