THROES: a caTalogue of HeRschel Observations of Evolved Stars. I. PACS range spectroscopy

This is the first of a series of papers presenting the THROES (A caTalogue of HeRschel Observations of Evolved Stars) project, intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the spectroscopic results obtained in the far-infrared (55-670 microns) with the Her- schel space observatory on low-to-intermediate mass evolved stars in our Galaxy. Here we introduce the catalogue of interactively reprocessed PACS (Photoconductor Array Camera and Spectrometer) spectra covering the 55-200 microns range for 114 stars in this category for which PACS range spectroscopic data is available in the Herschel Science Archive (HSA). Our sample includes objects spanning a range of evolutionary stages, from the asymptotic giant branch to the planetary nebula phase, displaying a wide variety of chemical and physical properties. The THROES/PACS catalogue is accessible via a dedicated web-based inter- face (https://throes.cab.inta-csic.es/) and includes not only the science-ready Herschel spectroscopic data for each source, but also complementary photometric and spectroscopic data from other infrared observatories, namely IRAS (Infrared Astronomical Satellite), ISO (Infrared Space Observatory) or AKARI, at overlapping wavelengths. Our goal is to create a legacy-value Herschel dataset that can be used by the scientific community in the future to deepen our knowledge and understanding of these latest stages of the evolution of low-to-intermediate mass stars.Comment: 38 page

Position-dependent mass effects on a bilayer graphene catenoid bridge

We study the electronic properties of a position-dependent effective mass electron on a bilayer graphene catenoid bridge. We propose a position-dependent mass (PDM) as a function of both gaussian and mean curvature. The hamiltonian exhibits parity and time-reversal steaming from the bridge symmetry. The effective potential contains the da Costa, centrifugal and PDM terms which are concentrated around the catenoid bridge. For zero angular momentum states, the PDM term provides a transition between a reflectionless to a double-well potential. As a result, the bound states undergo a transition from a single state around the bridge throat into two states each one located at rings around the bridge. Above some critical value of the PDM coupling constant, the degeneracy is restored due to double-well tunneling resonance.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure

X-boson Cumulant Approach To The Topological Kondo Insulators

In this work we present a generalization of our previous work of the X-boson approach to the periodic Anderson model (PAM), adequate to study a novel class of intermetallic 4f and 5f orbitals materials: the topological Kondo insulators, whose paradigmatic material is the compound SmB6. For simplicity, we consider a version of the PAM on a 2D square lattice, adequate to describe Ce-based compounds in two dimensions. The starting point of the model is the 4f - Ce ions orbitals, with J 5/2 multiplet, in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. Our technique works well for all of the parameters of the model and avoids the unwanted phase transitions of the slave boson mean field theory. We present a critical comparison of our results with those of the usual slave boson method, that has been intensively used to describe this class of materials. We also obtain a new valence first order transition which we attribute to the dependence of the hybridization.568DIB; Dirección de Investigación, Universidad Nacional de ColombiaColeman, P., (1984) Phys. Guidelines for irrigation scheduling of banana crop in São Francisco Valley, Brazil. I - Root distribution and activity.

    Get PDF
