A remarkable organism, Telegamatrix pellona gen. et sp. nov. (Monogenea: Diplectaninae) parasitic in an Indian herring

It is seldom that an entirely novel animal is found, but Telegamatrix seems to be a unique example in evolution of what would appear to be an ideal copulatory arrangement for a sedentary hermaphrodite, whether animal or lower plant. Yet no parallel example comes to mind from either kingdom. Here we have hermaphrodite worms copulating at a distance by means of a tentacle containing two-way duct

├В┬а├В┬аTo report a severe adverse drug reaction (ADR) due to administration of injection hydrocortisone sodium succinate and to explore the possibility of an association between injection hydrocortisone and the severe ADR. After getting ethics approval from the institution, ADR form and patient's clinical record from the Department of Cardiology, in a Private Medical College was received. In that, it was recorded as a 75-year-old male patient, a case of unstable angina with troponin T - positive, was posted for coronary angiogram developed a severe reaction to intravenous (IV) hydrocortisone 100 mg stat, given to prevent allergy to contrast dye used in the procedure. 5 minutes after drug administration, he developed sudden itching all over the body, hypotension blood pressure: 60 mmHg and swelling of lips. No other drugs had been given at that time. The patient was already on aspirin 150 mg, clopidogrel 75 mg, and atorvastatin 80 mg, and enoxaparin 40 mg. The procedure was abandoned, and the patient was given injection pheniramine maleate 45.5 mg IV, injection dopamine 10 mcg/kg/min IV. He symptomatically improved within 6 hrs. Causality analysis using the WHO scale categorizes it as probable, as anaphylaxis occurred immediately after administration of hydrocortisone, no other drugs were given at that time, and rechallenge was not done. Very few cases of various steroid-induced anaphylaxis have been reported worldwide. This one among the rare ADR report may be due to the steroid or the excipients in the preparation. Skin prick test or in vitro (radioallergosorbent test assay) test can be done immediately to confirm the causative allergen in this case and would also help in identifying specific agents that will be tolerated in the future treatment

Recoganisation and security guidance of data integrity in cloud storage

Cloud computing has been envisioned as the de-facto solution to the rising storage costs of IT Enterprises. With the high costs of data storage devices as well as the rapid rate at which data is being generated it proves costly for enterprises or individual users to frequently update their hardware. Storage outsourcing of data to cloud storage helps such firms by reducing the costs of storage, maintenance and personnel. It can also assure a reliable storage of important data by keeping multiple copies of the data thereby reducing the chance of losing data by hardware failures. The study deal with the problem of implementing a protocol for obtaining a proof of data possession in the cloud sometimes referred to as Proof of irretrievability (POR). The problem tries to obtain and verify a proof that the data that is stored by a user at remote data storage in the cloud (called cloud storage archives or simply archives) is not modified by the archive and thereby the integrity of the data is assured. The verification systems prevent the cloud storage archives from misrepresenting or modifying the data stored at it without the consent of the data owner by using frequent checks on the storage archives.&nbsp

FEDSACE: A Framework for Enhanced user Data Security algorithms in Cloud Computing Environment

With technological advancements and constant changes of Internet, cloud computing has been today's trend. With the lower cost and convenience of cloud computing services, users have increasingly put their Web resources and information in the cloud environment. Increasing data volume is giving the bigger task of Data Centers to provide a better quality of cloud computing. The main usage of cloud computing is data storage. It is more reliable and flexible to users to store and retrieve their data at anytime and anywhere. the security of cloud computing plays a major role in the cloud computing, as customers often store important information with cloud storage providers but these providers may be unsafe. Customers are wondering about attacks on the integrity and the availability of their data in the cloud from malicious insiders and outsiders, and from any collateral damage of cloud services. These issues are extremely significant but there is still much room for security research in cloud computing. This paper presents a framework for global data security of the cloud with two-level Security model. The proposed framework is intended for adapting a system and the framework allows the network service provider to deploy a security in different data centers dynamically while the customers need more security for increasing the data storage

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of antibody response in childhood tuberculosis against antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Purpose: Serodiagnosis of tuberculosis in children, using available crude antigens, has been difficult. The tests lack sufficient sensitivity and/or specificity. In this study, western blot analysis of M. tuberculosis H37Rv culture filtrate antigen (CFA) was carried out, to identify diagnostically useful antigens. In addition, the CFA was also used in enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), to measure antibodies of multiple isotypes. Methods: Specific IgG, IgA and IgM antibodies were estimated in the sera from 26 clinically/ bacteriologically diagnosed cases of childhood tuberculosis (CTB) and 61 normal children (CNHS), using culture filtrate antigen. Western blot analysis with culture filtrate antigen was carried out to qualitatively compare the antibody profile among the CTB, with childhood normal controls and adult TB. Results: IgG positivity was only 7.6% with culture filtrate antigen in the CTB group, while 3.2% among the controls were also positive. However, the results of IgA and IgM isotypes were better. By combination of all the three isotypes an increased sensitivity of 57.7% with a specificity of 93.5%, was obtained. Immunoblot analysis revealed marked difference among antibodies in the region of 16, 19, 38 and 45kDa between CTB and CNHS. Conclusions: Our findings point to a limited sensitivity of 57.7% in ELISA with culture filtrate antigen. However, antibodies around 16, 19,38 and 45kDa region may be useful in differentiating the CTB patients from CNHS by immunoblot assay

The current article provides the marine fish landing data of various gears at Kakinada landing centre, Andhrapradesh. Data of the period I98l-'85 from the trawlers and 1980-'82 from indigenous gear and published information on different species from Kakinada are used for the present fish calendar

The morphology and life history Of Echinochasmus bagulai Verma, 1935 (Trematoda : Echinostomatidae) with ecological observations on its larval forms

Preliminary and fairly detailed examination of the predominant molluscs of the mudflat at Pamban for metacercariae (cysts) and cercariae revealed the occurrence of an echinostome cercaria in Natica marochiensis Gmelin, which bore striking resemblances, chiefly in the number, arrangement of the collar spines and in the nature of the excretory vesicle to the metacercarial cysts which I have come across in the bivalve Katelysia opima Gmelin. This casual (discovery led to the study of its life history by undertaking feeding experiments. A similar method was employed by Beaver (1941) and Yamaguti (1951) in tracing the life histories of Echinochasmus donaldsoni and Echinochasmus japonicus respectively

Toxicity and the effect of Zineb on the rate of development of Drosophila melanogaster

Zineb, (zinc ethylene bis (dithiocarbamate), a carbamate fungicide was analysed for its toxicity on Drosophila meanogaster . Different concentrations of the chemical were added to the food medium and fed to the larvae. Based on this, the LC50 was calculated to be 58·26 mg/100 ml food medium. The toxic efficacy, of Zineb on the rate of development and viability of D. melanogaster compared to Dithan M-45, a related carbamate, are discussed

297-301A single individual point tailed sunfish Masturus lanceolatus was landed at Kasimedu fishing harbour, Chennai coast by gill netter, for the first time. In the present study, morphometrics and meristic measurements of the sunfish were made, which was found to be 120 cm long and weighed approximately 44 kg. The specimen has been compared with earlier reports
