The role of helium in the treatment of acute respiratory failure
Reducing the density of inspired gas by substituting helium for nitrogen should, in theory, enhance both oxygenation and carbon dioxide clearance. This review details and critically discusses the clinical trials of heliumoxygen therapy in patients with acute respiratory failure.</p
