Based on field work and herbarium studies, 44 species belonging to 21 genera and 11 families of hepatics are newly reported for Hong Kong. A first checklist of liverworts and hornworts in Hong Kong is also included

Studies on Hong Kong Cheilolejeunea with two species new to China

    Get PDF
Five species of the genus Cheilolejeunea are reported from Hong Kong. Among them, Cheilolejeunea osumiensis (Hatt.) Mizut. and Cheilolejeunea ryukyuensis Mizut. are new to China. Cheilolejeunea intertexta (Lindenb.) Steph. is newly reported for China except Taiwan, and Cheilolejeunea trifaria (Reinw. et al.) Mizut. is documented for the first time for mainland China except Hainan and Taiwan. The detailed description and illustration of Cheilolejeunea osumiensis as well as the key to the five Cheilolejeunea species of Hong Kong are also presented

Space-time properties of the higher twist amplitudes

    Get PDF
A consistent and intuitive description of the twist-4 corrections to the hadron structure functions is presented in a QCD-improved parton model using time-ordered perturbative theory, where the collinear singularities are naturally eliminated. We identify the special propagators with the backward propagators of partons in time order.Comment: 18 Pages, Latex, 8 Ps figures, To appear in Phys. Rev.

MIMO free-space optical communication employing subcarrier intensity modulation in atmospheric turbulence channels

    Get PDF
In this paper, we analyse the error performance of transmitter/receiver array free-space optical (FSO) communication system employing binary phase shift keying (BPSK) subcarrier intensity modulation (SIM) in clear but turbulent atmospheric channel. Subcarrier modulation is employed to eliminate the need for adaptive threshold detector. Direct detection is employed at the receiver and each subcarrier is subsequently demodulated coherently. The effect of irradiance fading is mitigated with an array of lasers and photodetectors. The received signals are linearly combined using the optimal maximum ratio combining (MRC), the equal gain combining (EGC) and the selection combining (SelC). The bit error rate (BER) equations are derived considering additive white Gaussian noise and log normal intensity fluctuations. This work is part of the EU COST actions and EU projects

Anomalous Dynamic Scaling in Locally-Conserved Coarsening of Fractal Clusters

We report two-dimensional phase-field simulations of locally-conserved coarsening dynamics of random fractal clusters with fractal dimension D=1.7 and 1.5. The correlation function, cluster perimeter and solute mass are measured as functions of time. Analyzing the correlation function dynamics, we identify two different time-dependent length scales that exhibit power laws in time. The exponents of these power laws are independent of D, one of them is apparently the classic exponent 1/3. The solute mass versus time exhibits dynamic scaling with a D-dependent exponent, in agreement with a simple scaling theory.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Future Directions in Parity Violation: From Quarks to the Cosmos

    Get PDF
I discuss the prospects for future studies of parity-violating (PV) interactions at low energies and the insights they might provide about open questions in the Standard Model as well as physics that lies beyond it. I cover four types of parity-violating observables: PV electron scattering; PV hadronic interactions; PV correlations in weak decays; and searches for the permanent electric dipole moments of quantum systems.Comment: Talk given at PAVI 06 workshop on parity-violating interactions, Milos, Greece (May, 2006); 10 page

    J/ψJ/\psi production in PHENIX

Heavy quarkonia production is expected to be sensitive to the formation of a quark gluon plasma (QGP). The PHENIX experiment has measured J/ψJ/\psi production at sNN=\sqrt{s_{NN}}=~200 GeV in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions, as well as in reference p+p and d+Au runs. J/ψJ/\psi's were measured both at mid (y<0.35|y|<0.35) and forward (1.2<y<2.21.2<|y|<2.2) rapidity. In this letter, we present the A+A preliminary results and compare them to normal cold nuclear matter expectations derived from PHENIX d+Au and p+p measurements as well as to theoretical models including various effects (color screening, recombination, sequential melting...).Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures. A Topological Study of Chaotic Iterations. Application to Hash Functions

    No full text
International audienceChaotic iterations, a tool formerly used in distributed computing, has recently revealed various interesting properties of disorder leading to its use in the computer science security field. In this paper, a comprehensive study of its topological behavior is proposed. It is stated that, in addition to being chaotic as defined in the Devaney's formulation, this tool possesses the property of topological mixing. Additionally, its level of sensibility, expansivity, and topological entropy are evaluated. All of these properties lead to a complete unpredictable behavior for the chaotic iterations. As it only manipulates binary digits or integers, we show that it is possible to use it to produce truly chaotic computer programs. As an application example, a truly chaotic hash function is proposed in two versions. In the second version, an artificial neural network is used, which can be stated as chaotic according to Devaney
